“Dad come on you have to let me come with you into town!” I whine as my dad loads up his cart. He had just bought some new Clydesdale for the field work and I know he will need help getting them home. “I'm not sure Aria, your mother needs help here at home.” He says with a stern voice. “I have already done the laundry, the dishes and fed the animals. Please dad.” I beg. I had gotten up extra early and done all my chores so that this didn't happen. I watch my dad look to my mom and back at me. He lets out a sigh and nods and I jump up and down. “Talon has to stay here tho, the townspeople would panic if they saw a dragon in town.” Dad throws over his shoulder as he walks to the cart and gets on. I look at Talon and I can see how angry he is. “I don't like not being with you Aria, it isn't safe.” Talon says in my head and I nod. “I know, but i'm 19 and i've never been to town before.” I say back and pat him on the head. My once small dragon is now full grown, and I would most definitely see where he could frighten some people. I can see in his eyes he wants to argue but doesn't. Talon is my best friend and I know all he cares about is my safety but I have to see what town is like. “If you need me just call.” I smile at him and nod, then I run to catch up with dad. “Ready?” I smile and nod at him and he whips the horses and we lurch forward.
“Oh my gosh, what is that smell?” I ask looking around trying to find the source of the smell. I hear my dad chuckle at my side. “You just wait, it's full of bakeries.” He smiles at me and I can't help but smile back. I look around and the streets are busy with women in their fancy dresses. I can't help but look down at my purple dress my mom had made me. I smile to myself and run my hands through my long brown hair. Soon dad pulls off to the side of the road in what I can only assume is the sale barn. “Dad can I walk around for a few?” I ask with hopeful eyes. “Yes, but be careful, and be back here in an hour so we can head home, got it?” He asks and I nod quickly and take off. I can hear him chuckle from behind me and I smile.
I make my way through the town and I'm amazed. Everything is so different, there are stores full of dresses with women giggling inside and people buying all sorts of things from what dad called the bakery. “Aria?!” I hear a deep voice yell my name and I instantly stiffen. I had been warned many times that town wasn't safe for people like me but how did this person know my name. “Aria are you okay?” Talon asks in my head and I ignore him, he must have felt my anxiety. A young man about my age is pushing people out of his way to get to me and I set back. “Aria is it really you?” He asks and I just stare at him. He is very handsome with large arms and broad shoulders but something about him seems familiar. I look into his big blue eyes and instantly know who it is. “Damon?!” I yell and run towards him. He instantly catches me and spins me around and I feel a ton of eyes on us and I blush. “What are you doing here?! Your parents never let you off the farm.” He says and I smile and tuck a piece of hair behind my ear. Damon lived on the farm next to us. We met one day while Talon and I were flying through the woods and we heard him crying. I was only 10 but Talon was already about full grown and we found Damon in the woods and some men were beating him. I had to stop them so me and Talon had gone and saved him. Damon and I had been close friends ever since, until a year later and my parents found out about him and made us stop hanging out because it was too dangerous. “I finally talked dad into letting me come and it's amazing.” I say and smile. “Aria you better answer me or I'm coming into town to get you!” Talon yells in my head and I wince at his words. “Sorry Tal I just found Damon!” I say back and I don't get a response right away. “Tell him I say hello.” I hear and then Talon is gone. “Well that's awesome how have you been? Hows Talon?” I look around before answering. “Oh he is great, huge as ever.” I laugh because Damon has no clue how big Talon really is. “He told me to tell you hi.” I say and smile at him. Damon smiles back at me and I look around to see a group of girls staring daggers at me. “Uh D I didn't mean to take you from your friends.” I say and Take a step back just noticing how close we really are. Damon opens his mouth to speak but someone beats him to it. “Yeah D, why don't you go back to your swarm and let someone else have this one?” The voice says and I swing around and come eye to eye with the man who spoke. I look at him and his blonde hair looks like he tried to style it, he man has been considered handsome had it not been for the awful look on his face. “Excuse me?” I ask, meeting his eyes. “I am not anyones, not Damons, and most definitely not yours.” I say and look him up and down. My words may have come out calloused but I wasn't too worried. I didn't like this guy. “Oh is that so? Then I wouldn't be talking to the mister man who hates himself then.” The way his eyes slid down made me feel nasty like they were leaving a trail of slime. “It's no concern of yours who I do and don't talk to you, now I do believe you were interrupting a conversation I was having with a friend.” I say and stare him down. I smile at the guy's lips. “Well I am sorry ma'am and I do hope we get to meet again soon miss..?” He waits for me to answer but I don't. “Damon I have to get going but it was nice seeing you again, maybe next time our conversation won't get cut short by jealous assholes.” I say and shoot a look over my shoulder at the man who is now seething. I start to walk off but Damon grabs my arm and it takes everything I have not to shake it off. “Meet me at our spot tonight?” He asks hopefully and I nod and walk off.
Once I get back to dad I see him walking out with two beautiful horses and I run to his side. “Can I help?” I ask and he smiles and nods. “I saw you talking to the Kroket boy.” He says and I just look down. “I know you two were friends but you know you will be leaving in a couple years it's best not to lead him on.” I just keep staring at the ground as we walk. “I also saw you put the Picket boy in his place.” He says and I look up to him looking at me. “I must say me and all the guys got a good laugh on his face.” He says and smiles at me and I can't help but smile back. “Now, pick those eyes up and let's get these horses home before dinner. Your mother will kill us if we are late.” I look at my father's smile and can't help but smile too. “Yes sir.” I say and we tie the horses up and head back home.
