Chapter 11- Mating Ball Drama

Matt POV

“Alpha Ava Knight and Luna Jake Marigold of the Moonlight Pack.” I look up at the stairs and see Ava hand in hand with Jake descending the stairs. She looks like an avenging angel in the gorgeous red dress.

“What a tart” Regina says beside me. “Wearing red to the mating ball, who does she think she is?”

I hold my tongue. Regina is wearing red as well, but this may have slipped her mind.

I hear murmurs from the crowd, making my scowl become deeper. Isn’t she beautiful?. I wish I was her mate. I heard she had a really horrendous past, but at least she finally has some happiness.

Ava had told everyone what had happened, only leaving my name and my pack out the story, instead she said that she was never privy to the information. This alone tells me that she still wants the mate bond. Or she hopes we can change.

I take a deep breath, I walk away, leaving Regina standing talking to her friends and I start to mingle with the other Alphas, always keeping my eye on Ava. A few have asked me why and I tell them that she is my mate. I still want her and her powers, so I want everyone to know, then when I finally approach her she will not be able to deny that we are mates and that she is to come home with me.

“Is Alpha Ava really your mate Alpha Matthew?” Alpha Tom asks me. Alpha Tom is not only a well-respected Alpha but he also has a high place on the council, meaning that he has almost that same amount of power as Ava. The only thing different is that Ava has a much bigger pack, and she is the Jade wolf.

“Yes, Alpha Tom, she is.” I respond.

“But she is with another male, her Luna. Are you sure Alpha Matthew?”

“I am telling you Alpha Tom she is my mate. She has deceived you and the rest of the council into believing she is mateless. She found out she was my mate five years ago and she ran.”

“But why would she have run? Alpha Matthew, that makes no sense.” Alpha Tom mumbles the last bit but I can still hear him.

“Because she wanted the pack for herself, after five years she returned and took two thirds of my pack away.”

“Alpha Matthew, I will go and speak to the rest of the council.” Alpha Tom walks away, I smile. Good, now they know that she is my mate they will make her take me back.

I watch as Jake and Ava dance. They look absolutely amazing together. I feel a slight tinge in my heart, wishing that it was me with her. Is that because of what she is or because of the mate bond?

Ava rejected the mate bond a second time, but I can still feel the bond. Though it’s not as strong as before, meaning that she is no longer meant to be mine at this moment.

I want to feel hate towards her, like on the day of my alpha ceremony, but all I feel is desire and pride. I try my hardest to hate her, but tonight I just can’t.

I am holding myself together really well, until I see Jake dip Ava at the end of the song and place a lingering kiss on her lips. That should be me.

I stomp towards them before I know what I am doing I raise my hand and strike Jake across the face. Gasps are heard all around us.

“What the hell do you think you are doing Alpha Matthew?” Jake semi-shouts at me.

“I am defending my mate, Luna Jake, you are touching what is MINE.” I growl towards Jake, whether I like it or not, I want Ava in this moment. I want to be her love, her desire and her weakness. What the hell has come over me?

“Alpha Matthew, I would really appreciate it if you would keep your hands off of my mate!” Ava calmly but sternly says to me.

“YOU ARE MY MATE AVA, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!”

“I am your rejected mate Alpha Matthew. REJECTED!”

The ball room descends into total silence.
