Chapter 5: The Mysterious New Girl --- Adapting to the Chaos of High School Eve had survived her first day at Hillcrest High, but she was already tired of human nonsense. The school was chaotic, filled with noise and movement that lacked the structure of a proper kingdom. Students rushed between classes, giggling over pointless gossip, shoving each other playfully, and discussing ridiculous things like homework, crushes, and after-school clubs. She observed them with cold calculation. Eve had ruled over an empire. She had commanded armies, strategized against rebellions, and crushed enemies without mercy. Compared to that, this? This was child’s play. Yet, despite her attempts to blend in, she attracted too much attention. She could hear the murmurs. "Who is she?" "She’s gorgeous—like some kind of royal." "Damon was staring at her in first period. Bella’s gonna lose it." "I bet she’s rich or something. Look at how she moves." Eve ignored them. She had endured centuries of whispering nobles scheming behind her back. These high school students were nothing compared to them. But Bella, walking beside her, was not as calm. "You do realize you’re making a scene, right?" Bella muttered. "I am doing nothing." "Exactly. That’s the problem," Bella sighed. "You walk like you own the place." Eve smirked. "Perhaps I should." Bella groaned. "Oh my god, you’re impossible." From the other side, Hope suddenly appeared, practically bouncing with excitement. "So, Eve, tell me the truth," she whispered, eyes gleaming. "Are you secretly an alien? A runaway princess? A vampire?" Eve’s footsteps halted. For a brief moment, her crimson eyes flashed. Hope’s wild theories were ridiculous… but also unsettlingly close to the truth. She turned to Hope, her voice smooth. "What makes you think supernatural beings exist?" Hope grinned. "Oh, I have theories! Tons of them! Some people have unnatural beauty—like you! It’s not normal. It’s almost… otherworldly!" Eve blinked. Bella rolled her eyes. "Hope, for the love of God—" "But I’m serious!" Hope insisted. "Think about it! Some people never seem to age. There are historical records of ‘miracles’ and disappearances that can’t be explained. And then there’s you. You’re too perfect. Too… mysterious." Eve studied her. Hope was perceptive. Too perceptive. That made her… dangerous. But instead of shutting her down, Eve gave her a cryptic smile. "Perhaps," she murmured. "Some myths are based on truth." Hope gasped. "Oh. My. God. Are you saying—" "Class is starting," Eve cut in, walking away. Hope froze in place, eyes wide with wonder. Bella groaned. "Great. You just made her ten times worse." Eve smirked. This could be entertaining. --- The Popular Girls’ Attention During lunch, Eve learned another annoying fact about high school. Cliques. She had barely taken her seat when a group of flawlessly dressed girls approached her table. Their leader, a tall brunette with sharp green eyes and a confident smirk, stepped forward. "So, you’re the new girl," she said smoothly. Eve did not look up. "Clearly." The girl’s lips curled. "I’m Veronica. I run things around here." Bella sighed. "Oh, here we go." Veronica ignored her. "We couldn’t help but notice Damon was paying extra attention to you." Eve finally looked up, her gaze cold. "And?" Veronica’s expression remained friendly, but there was a warning hidden beneath her words. "Let me give you some advice. Stay in your lane." Hope gasped. "Oh my god, is this a mean-girl moment? I love this." Eve tilted her head, intrigued. "And what lane would that be?" Veronica leaned in slightly. "Not Damon’s." Silence. Eve exhaled softly. "I see," she murmured. "You believe I am your competition." Veronica’s jaw clenched. "I didn’t say that." "You didn’t need to." A slow, dangerous smile curved Eve’s lips. "You should know something about me, Veronica," she said smoothly. "I do not care for petty school politics. I do not follow human hierarchies. And I certainly do not take orders from a child." Veronica’s confidence wavered. Eve’s voice lowered, carrying the weight of centuries of authority. "But if you threaten me, you will regret it." Silence fell over the table. Hope was practically vibrating with excitement. "Oh my god, that was SO badass." Veronica’s expression darkened, but before she could reply, Damon approached their table. "Everything okay here?" he asked, eyes flickering between them. Veronica immediately softened. "Of course, Damon! Just getting to know the new girl." Eve sighed internally. This was tiresome. "Great," Damon smirked at Eve. "Because I was just about to ask if she wanted to take a walk with me." Hope gasped. "Wait, is this a romance moment?! I love this even more." Bella groaned. "Hope, please shut up." Eve, meanwhile, stared at Damon. She had spent centuries dealing with charming nobles who thought they could win her over with sweet words. She would not play this game. With a calm, cool voice, she simply said— "No." Silence. Damon blinked. "Wait, what?" Eve stood gracefully. "I do not entertain distractions." Then, without another word, she turned and walked away. Veronica looked far too satisfied. Hope was practically jumping in excitement. And Damon? For the first time in his life… he had been rejected. --- The Supernatural Whisper As Eve walked through the hallways, she smirked to herself. Humans were predictable. Damon was arrogant. Veronica was territorial. Hope was too clever for her own good. Eve had ruled an empire. She had suppressed rebellions, tamed violent bloodlines, and walked through centuries of war. This would be easy. Or so she thought. Because as she turned the corner, she suddenly felt it. A presence. A whisper of supernatural energy. Her crimson eyes narrowed. She was not the only monster at this school. --
