First move — Dancing with Abigail literally felt like a dream, I felt like I was on cloud nine. For someone that said they couldn’t dance she surely was doing a great job at it. Her back was pressed against my chest and it took everything in me not to touch her, inappropriately. I followed her rhythm as she followed the song, I brought my hand closer to her waist, a bit hesitant I held her by her waist. But when she didn’t move away from my hold, I took that as a good sign. We continued dancing, her body pressed against mine. It felt so good and so right, I felt hands slip on top on mine. A little smile creeped on my face that’s when I heard promise by Lukas Graham play, I swerved side to side with Abigail in my arms. ‘Cause ain’t much changed but my age The man you love is the same Don’t you know that hearts Can break easy? I gave you the best of my pieces Promise me you’ll let me Come back home Keep my bed warm ‘Cause I’m bringing it all back to you Only say you’ll be there when I do Promise you get the best of me Only you get the rest of me Got my mind on your waist You’re the life of my party Got a lot to do Can’t stay in one place too long I’ve been on the move I know you’ve been waiting But here’s the truth I want someone to come home to Abigail was now facing me, the song still playing in the background. I got caught in her eyes, she was truly beautiful I could stare at her all day and not regret a single thing. I felt her arms move all the way up to my neck, I still didn’t leave her eyes nor did she mine. It was like a force was pulling me even closer to her, I didn’t realize how close I was still I felt her hot breath on my lips, I looked from her lips to her eyes. Without even giving her any warning, I pressed my lips on hers. It takes a while for her respond but when she does, I feel my lips leave hers. The way she looked at me killed me over and over again, I quickly look at the floor not knowing what to say. We both stood there in complete silence for a second, her still shocked and I a lot embarrassed. “Abigail..” I trail off when I see her walking away from me to the restroom, like the i***t I am I start following her trying my best to catch up to her. “I’m sorry, really really sorry for kissing you!” I spoke once I got ahold of her arm. She shook my arm off her taking a huge step back, “Sorry doesn’t make up for kissing me, do you know how hard it’s going to be now me—” “It is not that big of a deal abigail.” I spoke as calmly as I could, Abigail shook her head then walked to the sink. I watched everyone one of her steps, it was as though she was running or denying something. “Sorry to break it to you Josie, but it is a huge deal okay.” she spoke her gaze meeting mine. “Why?” “It just is, don’t ask me why.” “You didn’t kiss me back so there is no deal...” I found myself trailing off, I thought long and hard of the question I was about to ask. I mastered the guts to ask her, “Why do you hate me?” She looked at me a bit surprised, for a moment there was guilt written all over her face. “I don’t hate you.” it came out as a whisper. “Then why won’t you give me a chance?” “Because...” she tore her eyes away from mine, turning herself to face the mirror in front of her. I took a step closer to her, I stopped a few get away from her. “Abigail why?” She turned now facing me once more, “I don’t want to love, to fall in love with you okay, just like everyone else you’ll hurt me!” she turned her back on me once again, but this time my mouth was dry I had nothing to say, she just assumed I would hurt her even when she hadn’t given me a chance. I cleared my throat, “I won’t, you don’t have to love me by the way.” that by far had to be the stupidest s**t I had ever spoken, of course I wanted her to fall in love with me. She sighed then ran her fingers through her hair, “Josie—” “Fine, I won’t do it again, just please don’t decline the offer. I really do need help and for that reason I won’t ever kiss you again, friends?” I gave her my most friendly smile even though it hurt, at least she would still talk to me in a way. Abigail looked from my hand to my face then simply shook her head, I lowered my hand placing it in my pocket guess no physical contact. “Can I buy you a drink?” I asked, with a mouthed yes we were out of the restroom making our way to the bar. We pushed through dancing bodies on the dance floor, couples or random people making out then we finally made it to the bar. I called over the bartender, as I was waiting I turned to face Abigail who was busy scanning the dance floor, for her friends I guess. “Want a cocktail or a beer, or do you want both just tell me what.” I asked, which made Abigail look from the dance floor to me. She opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out, it was at the same time I noticed the bartender was now right in front of us. I looked from her to Abigail, “Are you alright?”
