Chapter 15: Battle of the Minds

Harmony POV

Jaydens message really hit home. We might be going to war. I didnt want to lose him but had a feeling that I might. Jayden seemed to know something too because he stayed with me and the pups all night. He made Caleb run the night patrol telling him ,he would take over tomorrow. Most of the day he stayed with us but I knew he would be going out tonight. "Harmony you know to sound the alarm if needed" Jayden asked as he gave me a kiss. I nodded and watch as he walked outside to a patrol waiting for him. 'Love you Harmony' Jayden mindlinked me before shifting and leaving. I felt a tear fall as I watched him leave. 'Love you too Jay' I linked back.

I turn to go inside as Caleb come up " luna did Alpha Jayden leave yet?" He asked. "Ya he did Caleb. Feel free to get some rest. I'm planning on staying up tonight. I will alert you if anything happens. Spend time with your mate" I tell Caleb who blushes slightly. "Thank you Luna" he said before disappering into the pack house. 'Jayden will be fine. He is strong and I'm sure this isnt his first threat against the pack' Aroura says to me. I let out a sigh before responding to my wolf. 'I just have a gut feeling about everything Aroura. And its not a good feeling'. 'I can feel your stress but you need to stay calm. Nothing feels off' Aroura says trying to reassure me. 'I cant lose him Aroura. He is the only family beside our pups that I have.' I say feeling tears starting to form. 'Look around you. The pack is your family. They love you and Jayden. They accepted you as their Luna long before you accepted the roll of luna. Plus you have me too' Aroura said and I feel a small chuckle. I give a small nod before looking around as the pack house and the few wolves coming home for the night.

Jaydens POV

We started our patrol and everything was going good. Ever since Jared started being a jerk and didnt tell me about threats or anything that might be concerning. So I had picked Cheyenne to come be my partner for the night. I did it too because she knew the scents of Kassandra and her minions. We kept walking in silence until a bush moved. I let out a small growl and stood in front of Cheyenne. As i was ready to attack the bush a rabbit shot out and darted off away for us. I could hear Cheyenne chuckle in my head. 'Tense much' she linked me making me chuckle. 'very' I link back. 'Lets just hope its not going to be a long night' She linked as I nodded. As we continued our patrol I kept thinking of Harmony. She had been stressing out ever since I did my pack announcement of what was going on. 'How is it going love' I link to Harmony. 'Quiet most of the pack are sleeping. Caleb said he would come help around 3 am so I can maybe sleep. I told him to spend time with his mate and get some sleep. Cant have both the Alpha and Beta dead on their feet' she linked back making me smile a little. 'Sounds good, its quite out here too. Just relax and I will link you around 3' I say before looking around. Cheyenne had stopped and was listening. I listened too and it seemed too quiet. No bugs or birds of any kind. Then a lone howl sounded in the distance. It was one of our patrols. I raced towards the noise and upon arriving I see Cassandra racing off. One of my pack members was in a pool of blood on the ground. 'Are you ok' I link to the standing patrol who had howled. They nod and i race back towards Cheyenne. As I'm running I am shoved off my feet. I slide across the ground as a silver wolf attempts to attack me.

Third person POV

The silver grey wolf was Dean, one of Cassandras minions. He was used as bait and Cassandra knew he wouldn't hold his own for long against Jayden. Cheyenne let out a howl for help seeing the wolf jump Jayden. As she howled the black wolf, Wolfie, jumped Cheyenne. The two of my seemed to tumble as they fought not really landing blows on each other. Almost as if some greater force was preventing them from harming each other. Soon Wolfie left Cheyenne to help fight Jayden. Cheyenne stood their winded trying to catch her breath. Soon a few warriors appeared racing towards Jayden to help defend him as he was attack two wolves. Cassandra appeared off in the distance and called Wolfie back to her. She consider him to be her lead warrior and didnt want Jayden to hurt him yet. As Wolfie came back over to her she smiled and patted his head. "Wolfie my love finish off Jayden if he manages to kill me. Stay back and watch until then. I will need your strength" she says as she walks towards the battle. While she had talked to Wolfie Jayden had managed to finally behead Dean, so as she walked up Jayden tried to attack her head on. She easily dodge him and laughed " got to be smarted than that Master Jayden." Jayden let out a howl. 'Cheyenne go to the pack house. Get warriors and Caleb now. Fast as you can' Jayden mind linked Cheyenne. Cheyenne had been just out of few of Casaandra so she was able to sneak away without alerting anyone who was fighting. She got to the pack house rather quickly.

Jaydens continued to try and attack Cassandra. Telling his few warriors different things to try and catch her off gaurd. Sadly all his attempts seemed to be in vain. Cassandra just laughed as she watch him. She knew he would wear himself out if she just kept dodging. She kept taughting him and Jayden hoped that his back up would arrive soon.

Harmonys POV

The time was getting close to 2 am. I had done a few walk arounds and had gone back up to sit in Jaydens office. I was starting to feel just how tired as i sat quietly in Jaydens chair. My stomach let out a small growl and I decided to go grab a snack from the kitchen. As i walked towards the door I heard some commotion and I ran down the stairs. As i approached the front doors I saw Caleb shift and several warriors take off towards the woods. My heart started racing as I tried to mind link Jayden but he must have been just out of distance. 'Caleb what is going on' I link to him. 'An attack I have another warrior group coming to you to gaurd the house. Jayden needs me' Caleb linked back. I could felt uneasy and a little sick. 'Moon goddess please watch over and protect them' I say in my mind before shifting. I pace around the house until the gaurds show up.

Third person POV

Jayden kept trying to attack Cassandra but was getting warn out. He was panting rather heavily. 'Im almost to your location Alpha' Caleb linked to Jayden who let out a howl. 'come from the side. I need you to attack her from behind. Throw her off she doesnt know im waiting on you' Jayden links to Caleb. He links the warriors with him and they shift their course to remain unseen as they approach. As Caleb come up and gets Casaandra in view they attack as a unit. Jayden attacks with his warriors from the front and Casaandra goes after Jayden but is knocked to the ground by Caleb. As she falls a shot rings out making time stand still. The sound echos around the pack house and Harmony freezes. Her heart starts to hurt and Aroura becomes uneasy. She knew something happened and everything kind of hurt. She just hoped that no one really got hurt but everything felt so unclear.
