Chapter 16: Alpha Down

Harmonys POV

I felt cold as the sound echoed from the shot. They were just out of range of the mind link but I knew. No one had to tell me that Jayden had been hit. Our mate bond told me everything. I could feel tears falling down my face as I stood in front of the pack house. I shift and start racing towards the northern Forest. I try to link Caleb but get no response. 'Jayden.. Please Jayden' I link to my mate. 'love you' I hear Jayden link to me. 'Love you too. Are you hurt? Whats going on? Im on my way' I link back to him but he doesnt respond. Aroura lets out a small whimper as we slow for a moment before gaining speed again. 'Luna? Where are you?' A link comes in and i recognize it as Mattie, Calebs mate. 'On my way to the battle front gaurd the house' I link back to her. 'Yes Luna' she links backs just before I leave her range. As i approach the battle front I see Caleb and a few warriors kill the Witch. A small sence of relief washes over me knowing she is dead. I see Cheyenne by Jayden who is on the ground and I rush over to them. 'What happened?' I link to her before shifting. 'Im not sure Luna. There was a shot then Alpha fell to the ground' she linked back. As I lean over Jayden he gives me a small push. "You cant be here. Cassandra will kill you too" he says weakly. "Caleb killed her. I just saw it. Those other wolves tried to run off" I say giving him a kiss of the forehead. Tears fall down my face as Caleb walks up and covers me with a jacket. He also hands me some clothes. "Luna get dressed, me and the warriors will take Jayden to the hospital." Caleb said and I nod. My heart hurts some seeing Jayden. As they lift him I see the small pool of blood left from him gun shot wound.

Cheyennes POV

I watch as they take the Alpha, my brother, back towards the pack hospital. My mind is racing replaying everything that happened. I felt as if I was losing my family yet again. I stayed back with another warrior. He went one way and I went another. Soon I see some movement ahead of me. I walk towards it slowly, in case it was another rabbit. I let out a small growl as a rather naked man appears. He looked lost and confused. He seemed to have lost his balance and was stumbling a little. I shift and change, but before shifting I catch his scent. He was the witches minion. I walk out towards him and the wind seems to leave my lung for a moment. He stands about 6 foot tall with bright green eyes. Sky seemed to stir and became a little uneasy but not in a bad way. I had an urge to protect him and that didnt sit well with me at first. "Who are you" I call out causing him to stumble back as I walked towards him. He doesnt say anything and I sigh. I grab a pair of shorts and toss it at him. "Can you talk? I'm not going to play nice too much longer if your not going to talk" I say and i can feel his uneasiness. "A...Aus..Austin" he finally manages to studder out. I chuckle "Well Austin, why are you on my packs land" I question him again. He looks down at his hands but doesnt respond. "You helped the Witch and now our Alpha is not doing well. Why shouldnt I report you to my Beta now to be killed" I say feeling a little angry but at the same time not wanting to hurting him. "W..witch..Con..Con..control...Sp..spell" Austin studders out and I look at him a little confused. "You were under a spell?" I ask and he nods. "How do I know you arent lying" I question him and he looks down. "Y..you

..cant" he says starting to not studder as much. "Wolfie" he comments again and I freeze. Wolfie was the main wolf that the Witch always had with her. "So Wolfie is your wolfs name? But Austin is your name?" I ask and he nods. I let out a sigh of frustration. 'I feel some kind of pull to him' Sky says to me but I block her out. "Well Austin or Wolfie.. I have to report you or take you in. I cant let you go" I say as i grab his wrist. He doesnt seem to fight me and I get a feeling he might not be lying. "I was under ....a .. Spell" Austin says again as I start to pull him towards the pack house. 'I found one Beta Caleb but I think we might want to question him' I link to Caleb. 'take him to the dungeon and I will question him once I'm done. Have Delta James watch him' Caleb links back. "Well Austin I cant promise you won't be killed but your going to the dungeon for now" I say and Austin just hangs his head. Sky seems to get mad at this and I dont blame her. There was something about this man that made me want to he around him. I couldnt put my finger on it but something about him was different.

Harmonys POV

As soon as we got to the hospital they took Jayden back immediately. Caleb told me he had to go take care of some loose ends and i just nodded. "Caleb don't kill anyone until I get a chance to talk to them" I comment before he leaves and he nods to me. Caleb was a good man and I trusted him completely. I knew he could keep things running smooth for a little while.

Minutes turned to hours and still no word on Jayden. Finally a door opened and a doctor walked out of the back room. "Luna?" He said walking towards me. I stood up and he motioned for me to sit again. I felt a lump in the back of my throat as he sat next to me. "Alpha Jayden seems to have stablized for now. He got shot in the lower right side of the stomach. Thankfully it missed all organs and didnt cause too much damage. I managed to pull the bullet from him and sent it to the lab. Something seemed off about it and I just wanted to check it. I did some blood work but wont get all the results until tomorrow at the earliest or next week by the lastest" he said and i felt a since of relief wash over me. Maybe things were going to be so bad after all. "Can i go see him?" I asked and the doctor nodded. "Of course Luna. We have done several studies that show having your fated mate near helps with the healing process." The doctor said as he walks me down the hall towards Jaydens room. As we enter my heart skips a beat. Jayden is tooked up to several machines to monitor him. He looked somewhat peaceful but I was worried about him still. I could feel the warm tears falls uncontrollably as I sat next to him. "Please no visitors except Beta Caleb." I tell the doctor. "Also I want gaurds and only you and a handful of highly trusted nurses to be allowed in his room" I say and the doctor nods again. "Of course Luna I will inform the staff. The head nurse is Lola and she will be in to check everything in a few. She will assign only her best for his care. " the doctor informs me before leaving. I nod as he leaves and then grab Jaydens hand. I could tell it was going to be a rough recovery and a rough few days.

Hours later Caleb come in leaving two gaurds outside the door. "The doctor linked me and informed me about your request for guards. I have hand picked six guards two for each shift. They wont leave until their replacement is here. They are instructioned to come greet you and inform you about the change then releive the gaurds outside. I got a list of the nurses and only four names are on the list. Lola told me everyone on that list has been here for years and are very trustworthy. They are the best in this unit." Caleb said and we talked about a few other things. "Oh before I leave Luna. We found, well Cheyenne found, one of the Witches minions. He is in our dungeon with Delta James watching him. My plan is to question him tomorrow" Caleb said and I let out a sigh. "I will make arrangements to come question him either tomorrow or the next day." I say before looking back at Jayden. "Caleb can I ask you and your mate to watch the twins? I know its a lot im asking of you right now but I would feel better knowing the nurse maids can have a small break if you both are feeling up to it" I say hoping I'm not asking our beta for too much. "Of course Luna, my mate Mattie would love it. She has been wanting a pup for a while now. Maybe this will help her see how much of a handful they are or it will backfire and make her want one more. Either way its not too much to ask and I would be honored to watch your pups" Caleb said giving me a smile. "Ok just be careful Quintin is a master escape artist and Riley is a climber" I say and Caleb laughs. "Dont worry Luna I got this" Caleb says causing me to chuckle. I hoped the pups would be good for Caleb and his mate. After Caleb left one of thr guards came in to inform me they were here. I thanked them and started to feel a little better about everything.

Sorry for the late updates. I work full time and its hard to write some times. I'm hoping to be finishing the book up in the next few chapters. Dont worry there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
