This was far from the first time it had happened. Yet every time Camilla argued with Cross over his obvious favoritism, he would only sigh helplessly and say, "Juliette is related to my mentor. How could I possibly just ignore her?"
This time, Camilla lay quietly on her bed, her head throbbing with pain. Just then, her phone lit up with an incoming message. It was from Hayden, a younger classmate from their department.
Hayden: Camilla, are you alright? I heard someone saw you getting caught in the rain this afternoon.
She typed a reply, though her voice sounded hoarse even to herself. Before long, there was a soft, gentle tap against the window. Standing outside in the pouring rain was Hayden Collins. He quickly pushed a handful of items through the gap.
"I brought you a thermos of hot coco," he said hurriedly. "And some medicine I just bought. Take it and see if it helps. I also ordered canned peaches and fresh fruit. I'll have someone bring them over shortly."
Camilla froze, caught completely off guard. She wanted to refuse, but Hayden had already turned and run off into the rain. Moments later, another message popped up.
Hayden: I know you have a boyfriend, and I'm sorry for being so forward. But I just couldn't stand seeing how little he seems to care about you.
Perhaps it was the effect of the medicine, or maybe just some much‑needed rest. After a long sleep, Camilla finally felt a little more like herself.
Later that evening, her roommates returned. Noticing the flush on her cheeks, they gathered around to ask how she was feeling.
Just then, the dorm door swung open. Juliette walked in carrying several shopping bags.
"Hey everyone, I brought you all some little gifts!" she called out cheerfully.
One by one, she explained where each item came from: high‑end skincare sets originally sent as a gift to Cross' mother, stylish new scarves, and more.
"Auntie says she's getting on in years and believes nice things should go to the younger generation first," she added sweetly.
The room fell instantly quiet. Every roommate shifted their gaze toward Camilla, their expressions growing awkward and heavy.
Everyone knew full well that Cross was Camilla's boyfriend. Having Juliette bring these gifts back felt like a deliberate slap in the face. No one dared reach for anything or speak up.
Suddenly, Juliette laughed lightly. "Don't worry, there are plenty of samples and travel‑sized items too. Feel free to take whatever you like. I even told Auntie clearly that I was not Cross' girlfriend, and she understands perfectly."
Juliette walked straight over to Camilla's bedside and leaned down, looking right at her. "What's wrong, Camilla? You've gone all quiet. Are you upset because I came back with presents? But remember, it was you who decided not to go visit his mother halfway there."
