(Doorbell rings)
Zachary clicked the doorbell for the sixth time, and still, no one opened the door for him. He sighed and was about to leave when someone opened it, but to his annoyance, it wasn't Cassandra.
He looks at the guy from head to toe, and he can sense that he's nothing compared to him. The guy wears a pajama, and he thinks the man has just gotten out of bed because of his repeated ringing of the doorbell.
"Who are you? Did you know that you disturbed my hibernating?" Andrei said irritably.
"Excuse me?" He replied annoyingly.
Andrei just rolled his eyes before leaning on the door and looking at him carefully, "I don't remember that she has a visitor today, and she wouldn't like it," he said while pointing at the flowers he's carrying.
He scoffs, "What do you know about her, and who are you? I don't even know you."
"Oh, sorry for being unrespectful," Andrei lay his hand in front of him, "I am Andrei. Cassandra's husband."
Zachary was not surprised by what the young man said, but he was surprised that his ex-wife exchanged him for a worthless man like the one in front of him.
"Really?" He smirked, "I'm wondering what did Cassandra see to you? You don't look rich and popular, and I bet you're a playboy because the way I look at you, you're a man who can break a girl's heart."
"Look who's talking right now. Doesn't you hurt her too?" Andrei asked him.
"You know nothing that happened to us, so don't judge me as if you know me well."
The young man grinned, "Did I offend you?"
He ignored what that guy said and entered the house without permission getting to him, he started calling Cassandra's name, but Andrei stopped him.
"Your trespassing, and Cassandra wasn't here," He said.
"I know she's here, so you can't hide her from me."
"Don't be so stubborn, Cassandra wasn't here, and I am her husband, so I know if she's here or not!"
"Let's see," He smirked, "Cassandra!"
"Stop!!"
"Cassandra! I know you're here!!" He shouted.
Suddenly Cassandra was rushing down the stairs and was surprised to see him because she didn't tell him where they lived. She looks at Andrei sharply, like she's telling her brother what that man was doing inside their house, but she receives a shrug from Andrei.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, and she was unhappy to see him inside her premises.
"Thank god. I know you were here because this guy insists you're not at home."
She took a deep breath, "I said, what are you doing inside my side. Don't make me repeat that question, Zachary."
"Cassandra, are you not happy to see me?"
"Stop it, Zach! I will never be happy to see your f*cking face, so please, leave my house at once!" She shouted.
"I'm not here to argue with you. I'm just here to see our son," He said.
She exhaled deeply and clenched her fist secretly, she didn't have any plan to talk to him right now, and the best way was to make him leave. Cassandra is not ready to make Zachary part of her son's life because it might be one of his ways of entering her life.
She motioned to her brother, and Andrei immediately got what his sister was trying to tell him. He grabs Zachary in his arm, causing their eyes to meet. He's in the serious mode right now because that's what they agreed on.
"You hear my wife, aren't you? She wanted you to leave our house because you are not welcome here," He uttered.
Zachary scoffs and pulls his arm, "Wife? When did you become my ex-wife's husband? Don't tell me you marry her for money?"
"What do you care? It's none of your business if I marry her because she's wealthy. At least I'm not a cheater like you," He smirked before crossing his arms.
"Do you think I'll believe that you are Cassandra's husband? Just by looking at you, I know your not because you are not qualified to be her husband."
"In that case, who do you think is qualified to be my wife's partner? If I can't be her husband, you can't because you never be qualified, and I bet she didn't want you to be part of her life. Again."
That word hit Zachary so much, causing him to hold tightly the bunch of roses he's holding. He ignores Andrei's gaze and looks at Cassandra, who quietly watches them.
"Cassand—"
"You heard him, Zachary. So, do you mind?" She pointed to the door.
He sighed, "Maybe your mad but I swear. I won't stop until I reclaim you because you are mine Cassandra and no one can have you either him!"
He slammed the bunch of roses into Andrei's chest before turning around and approaching the door, but when he was about to reach the doorknob, someone spoke.
He turned around, and the face he's been trying to see was in front of him. Zachary is like looking at the mirror because his son inherited his face. He gulps and pinches his flesh a little to remind himself that it's not a dream.
"Gabriel..." He murmured.
"Mommy, who is he?" Gabriel asked his mother.
"Come here, baby," She carried her son, "He's no one."
Zachary was surprised to hear that word from his ex-wife because he thought they had already agreed about having custody of his son.
"Cassandra," He called her name, "We have an agreement. You can't introduce me to our son like that, and you know that."
"He's not ready to meet you, Zachary. So please, leave us alone for a while."
"No," He insisted.
She hides her son behind her and is ready to fight for her right. After all, she's the one who's not prepared for Gabriel to meet his father finally.
"He is my son Cassandra, and I have the right to meet him."
"I know, but you can't blame me. What if you steal my son from me? You didn't know how important he is to me, so you can't blame me if I'm afraid."
"I can't believe what I just heard. You don't trust me because you think I might steal him from you? What kind of thinking do you have, Cassandra? I'll never do that because I know how much you love Gabriel."
He stepped on his feet and walked closer but stopped kilometers away from Cassandra. He wanted to make it up to her but putting walls between him and his son is a different story.
"We both agreed to this, Cassandra. You need to keep your promise, or we'll see each other in the court."
"Don't you dare threaten me."
"I'm not threatening you. I'm just telling you the truth. I'm his father, and as a parent, I hope you understand that I'm longing for my son's presence..."
But instead of listening to him, Cassandra laughed sarcastically because suddenly, the past flashback in her mind and the pain she's trying to bury in the past are still coming back.
"Mom..." Gabriel poked her mother.
She turned around, "Yes, sweetie?"
"Is he my dad?"
She was stunned by what her son had asked her. She knew she couldn't hide it for so long because Cassandra's son himself longed for the fatherly love.
She sighed before bending down, "Yes, and he's here to meet you."
"Then, I want to meet him. He's my dad, after all."
"He is, but I'm afraid he might steal you from me. you know how much I love you, right?"
"I know, mommy, but I missed my daddy so much, and I want to hug him," He pouted, "And you said when I grew up, I'll meet him..."
"Gabriel..."
"Please, mommy. I promise I wouldn't let daddy steal me from you because I am your baby!"
Cassandra smiled when her son gave her the warmest hug he had, she responded to that hug, and she could feel the longing of her son.
"Okay, I'll let you meet him."
Gabriel parted from the hug and smiled widely before running towards Zachary. He stopped in front of his father and looked at him. Like he's scanning if Zachary was his father.
"Are you my real, dad?" He asked.
Zachary nodded and extended his arms, "Yes, I am."
"Mommy said we have the same face, and she's telling the truth," He approached his father and hugged him.
Zachary, on the other hand, was happy to meet his son finally. After six years of waiting, his dream to meet Gabriel was finally granted. He wanted to cherish this day and show him the love he had missed for almost six years.
"I love you, daddy..." Gabriel murmured.
He smiled, "I love you too..."
Those words are like beautiful music lingering in his ears because he didn't expect this day to come, he looked at Cassandra, who was looking at them, but she averted her eyes and wiped the tears that escaped her eyes.
Now he becomes more eager to reclaim his wife, and he'll do everything to get what is truly his.
