My heart almost stopped beating when I realized that the knife the vampire, Gray, was holding was only half a centimeter away from my nose. Crap! He really wouldn't think twice about killing me.
"Gray, stop it! What's happening here?" shouted the woman in her mid-30s, though I'm sure she's older, given her abilities that don't age her like a normal human.
Gray suddenly flew away from me, ending up on the other side. I stood up and picked up the knife Gray had dropped, pointing it at them. He shouldn't have strayed away from me.
"Don't come near," I said firmly, fearlessly pointing the knife at them. The man named Gray had no reaction, while the other had a worried look on their face.
"Crest, listen to me. We won't hurt you. Calm down and talk to us properly," said the man who appeared to be the same age as the woman from earlier.
"Liar! You're all vampires. Why should I believe you? Aren't you the ones who commit crimes against mortals?" I looked at them, shooting evil looks. Vampires are all the same; they will trick you until you fall into their trap.
"We are not your enemies but your allies. Please, Lady Crest, believe us. We only intend to protect you, not harm you," said another man who appeared to be my age.
"Kings?" They all looked at each other. Do they know something I don't? "Crest, you are the daughter of Light Montiel and Sierra Kings, a Hunter and a Vampire," I was surprised by what I found out. My parents. I thought they were just normal people who only knew about vampires.
"How did you know about them?" I still couldn't believe what I had just heard. "We are their friends, Crest. Please believe us, put down your knife, and let's talk," the woman said with a worried expression. I did not know that vampires could show emotion.
I slowly lowered the knife I was holding. Every breath I took was heavy. I didn't even know if I should really trust them. They are vampires, whom I hate the most.
"You have to tell me everything," I told them, and they nodded.
"Yes. Everything you want to know, we will tell you," the woman said as she led me to the living room where they were talking earlier.
"By the way, I am Unice Rempire, and he is my husband, Rafael," she pointed to the man her age. "He is our son, Gray Rempire," she pointed to the man who almost killed me.
"I'm Lorenz Rempire, cousin of Gray," he took my hand and kissed it. What the?! I immediately pulled back my hand since I felt uncomfortable. I bet he is a womanizer.
"What do you want to know, Lady Crest?"
"Everything," I said as we started to fill in the empty seats in the living room.
"Maybe we should start," said Rafael.
"In the early centuries, there were actually vampires in the world. To avoid hunger, they had to drink blood, so they made humans their main food. But some vampires drank animal blood instead of humans. Because of such cases, there was a war. Vampire beliefs separated them from being united. The group of people are called Hunters, where they are the elite who kill vampires."
"What do my parents and grandfather have to do with this?" They looked at each other before facing me again.
"They were the reason why humans and vampires had an agreement. Your mother, Sierra Kings, is from the clan of vampires. Your father, Light Montiel, is from the Hunters. It is a great sin for humans and vampires to love each other because their child might be something we were not expecting: a powerful being or a monster. With the help of your grandfather Gordon, who is a great hunter, he took care of Light and Lucresia. When they were children, they learned to control your power, and when you turn 18, it's up to you to choose whether you use it for good or evil." I was nervous about what they said. I have power? But why can't I feel it or use it? Why am I just a normal being?
"I think everything you said about me is not true. I don't have any power or the blood of a vampire. I am just a normal human," I answered.
"You are wrong, Crest. You haven't awakened. When you turned eighteen, you will see the changes within you," Rafael firmly said.
"Don't worry, Crest. We will help you and protect you," Unice said, smiling and giving me assurance.
"I didn't smell his bloodline," I said. I wasn't surprised by what Gray said.
"That's because I'm wearing a necklace from Lucresia," I answered him, but he didn't look at me.
"Yes, I thought you were a vampire," Lorenz replied.
"She will also come to that point," I was silenced by Rafael's words.
"What did you say, Rafael? I'm going to be a vampire soon?!" I asked in disbelief. I thought I would only have powers. I don't want to be a vampire.
"Don't you respect the elderly? You're talking to a 40-year-old!" Gray answered again.
"Sorry. I thought he was only 30!" I answered Gray.
"That's still old!" My blood was heating up because of this man. He knows when to make me mad.
Annoying!
"You two stop. You're like a dog and a cat!" intervened Lorenz. Gray and I just looked at each other, and then I looked back at them.
"Your mom is a vampire. Being a vampire is in your blood, so you can't escape it," answered Rafael.
"What about the Kings? You said that's where my mother came from."
"Kings are called Human Blood Suckers, but your mother has Rempire blood. Your grandmother is Rempire, and your grandfather is Kings. Your mother does not drink human blood, so she is still Rempire even though her last name is Kings." Still, my mom is on the good side.
"Help me," they were surprised by what I said.
"Help me fight and learn to protect myself. I also want to know a lot about vampires and hunters," I said determinedly.
"Looks like I'll be tired tomorrow," said Lorenz and then whistled some more.
"No. Gray will teach her," Rafael said.
"What?! Why me?" We both asked at the same time. Not him.
