Kevin nodded.
…
One hour later, Chase walked down the stairs, noticing Lola was sitting in the living room alone. His face darkened, "Did you walk down by yourself?"
Lola nodded.
How did she manage to walk down by herself? Was she lying about the wounds on her feet? Chase narrowed his eyes and approached her. When he saw her feet, his brows knitted. The white bandages had been tainted with blood. Even her clothes were stained by red spots. Did she really walk down by herself? This woman had a heart of stone…
She would even treat herself this way. Chase couldn't imagine how would she treat other people… He must make sure Kevin kept his distance from this woman…
"You have no idea how many times have I fallen during the walk… My bones are broken. I almost crawled into the mansion…"
"Crawled?" Chase noticed the red on his floor. He took a step back, looking disgusted.
Lola had started to cry at this point, "I'm afraid I won't be able to walk for the rest of my life. Guess I can only stay at your house. You have a nice place and countless maids… Besides, I can see Kevin every day… When he gets to know that I'm actually his mommy, he will definitely take care of me…"
Humph!
She wanted to stay here? She expected his son to take care of her? It just would never happen!
"Swain, you're the one who abandoned Kevin. You have the audacity to let him take care of you!"
"I have no choice. You won't take care of me anyway. And I end up like this all because of you!"
"It won't happen!" Chase snapped.
"Then I'll just die here. When Kevin gets to know this, he will hate you for the rest of his life!"
Chase's face fell. Was this woman trying to threaten him with her death? But… He really couldn't let her just die here. Because if Kevin got to know, he would hate him for sure…
Damn this woman!
Chase made a phone call. Lola was sent to the hospital instantly. The doctor seemed surprised, "She never hurt her bones…"
"Yeah… the thing Mr. Dalton said made me think she was gonna die…"
Lola was trying to stifle a laugh when she heard the conversation between the doctors. She raised her voice, so the whole room would hear her loud and clear, "What can I do? Chase treats me like I was made of glass. His heart will be broken if a bee stings my finger. He just cares too much…"
The doctors exchanged a look. Now they knew it. This woman was probably the love of Mr. Dalton's life. They should treat her with extra care.
After that, Lola had been treated like a queen in the hospital. That evening, Chase went to visit her in the hospital, but the room she stayed in was empty.
"Where's she?"
"Mrs. Dalton left earlier, saying she's busy."
"Mrs. Dalton?" Chase frowned. Did they mean Swain? "How did she manage to leave by herself? She's seriously injured…"
Her bones had been shattered and she had crawled into the hall at the day. How come she recovered so soon?
"Sir, her wounds are not serious. Besides, she had dealt with them before she came here. She'll be fine."
Not serious? And she had dealt with them? Then, the blood on her body… Chase's hands fisted up. Damn this woman! She played him like a fool again!
"Sir, Mrs. Dalton said…"
"Say Mrs. Dalton again and I'll end you!"
The doctor shut up instantly, "O-Okay…"
Whipping around, Chase walked out of the room instantly and went to Lola's apartment instantly, rapping on her door nonstop. The neighbor heard the sound and went out to check out, telling Chase that Lola had moved away.
"Where did she go?"
