The next few weeks Val had fallen into a routine with her work/personal life/ school life balance. On the days she would work at the firm she would get up at 6 study till 8:30 get ready for work be there by 9 work all day spending her lunched with the Greys when they were available, Val found it a little strange but kept that to herself, when it was knock off time which was normal around 5 she would go home and enjoy her evenings. On the days she didn’t work at the firm she would get up at about 8 do her classes and then study till about 5-6ish. 3rd person POV Two days before the Ball In the dining room at the Grey Mansion 2 younger men sat down waiting on the others so they can begin dinner, when Mr. Elius Grey walked in. “Are you sure she is coming to the ball?” one guy asked excitedly. “Why the F*ck does it matter. She’s human I refuse to have a weak human mate.” The other said. “You will give her a chance, just like your mother said.” Elius demanded, sitting down at the head of the table. The younger men to his right and an empty chair to his left, and opposite of his sons. The only one they were waiting on was their mother, since the girls were still away at school and wouldn’t be returning till after the ball. This was the seating arrangement for the in-house family dinners. Elius knew it would have to be rearranged soon if his sons did choose to keep their mate. “I don’t understand why you are already so against her. She is smart, hardworking, kind, and beautiful. Mrs. Winslow absolutely loves her.” Their mother said, coming through the door shortly after Elius. “She will make an excellent partner for you both.” Val POV. 2 days before the ball Shutting her alarm off Val stretched waking herself up some, she felt off this morning as though her skin was feeling too tight and that there was buzzing underneath it. She stood from her bed, gathering her things she needed for a quick shower, she would be spending the day studying down at the library, so she made herself a quick breakfast and I small lunch after her shower, and headed out the door. The feeling as though something big was about to happen was still there. She chalked it up to her birthday being Sunday, and the ball was how she and Shayla decided to celebrate. Once Val got to the library, she picked the table that was all the way in the back next to a large window. It was her favorite spot to study here. When the sun would shine through the window onto Val she felt as though she was being recharged. She had to finish her creative English final, a class she just took because she thought it would be fun and needed an extra credit for the year, they drew a genre of stories out of a hat and wrote a paper on the history behind that type of genre, she got supernatural myths, which she never really believed in but would still work hard to make sure she got an A on the paper, however she needed a few more resources for it. She got up from where she was studying and walked to the rows of books, she knew the books she would need would be on the last set of shelves. When she reached the row, she noticed she heard whispering and stopped to listen for a second to make sure she wasn’t about to see something she really didn’t want to see. “Come on. You know I would never leave you for her why are you acting like this.” She heard a low rugged voice whisper. “She is your mate. How can you say that you won’t leave me?” a female voice questioned. Mate? Val thought to herself. That’s a weird thing for someone to call a person they are worried you will leave them for. She continued walking when she turned the corner the guy’s head snapped up and turned towards her direction staring into her soul. She thought she recognized the guy but couldn’t put her finger on it as to where she knew him from. The girl he was with was leaning against the bookshelf staring up at him worriedly. “Sorry” Val said, “I didn’t mean to interrupt, I just need to get a book behind you please.” Saying as nicely as she could. “For F*ck sakes we are in the middle of something.” The guy snarked towards Val. “Silas, she just needs a book we can move and wait for her to grab her book and then continue talking.” The girl stated. “HMM, let me think about it No.” he said flatly turning back to the girl giving Val the cold shoulder. Rude. She thought. Then it clicked Silas was the Greys son. She met him after her interview. “I’m sorry, I’ll just come back in a few minutes.” Val stated turning around to walk back to the table she was studying at. As she was walking away, she heard the guy she knew now as Silas say, “That’s her”. ‘I hope he’s not talking about me’ Val though to herself ‘I’ve never met him before.’ She continued working on her laptop to find the books she would need to finish her paper after about another hour Silas and the girl he was with finally came from the rows of books she could finally go get the few she needed. When Val reached the shelf, she noticed that all the books were off the shelf and scattered everywhere. “Cause cleaning up after others is totally what I have time for at the moment.” Val mumbled. “I’m sorry what was that?” she heard a voice question behind her causing Val to jump out of her skin. She turned to see Silas was standing behind her. “Here, let me help you.” Silas said in a nice calm voice, bending down to help her pick up the books. “Thanks.” Val said blankly. I can not deal with people who are constantly hot or cold towards people period. Whether they know someone or not. “You are very welcome.” He chimed picking up the last book placing it on the shelf turning back to her. “what happen to make all the books fall off the shelf?” he questioned with a smirk. “I have my assumptions, but I can not 100% say” Val snarked at him. He know what happened it was him for pete sakes. Ignoring Silas, Val grabbed the book she was needing and walked back to her table. “What’s your name?” she heard Silas ask behind her. “and why would you want to know something like that?” Val asked. “Because I need to know the name of my future wife.” This guy can not be serious Val thought. “You didn’t want to know my name an hour ago, why now?” he looked at Val confused. “We have not met before.” He stated sounding like he was stating a fact. “I do not have time for this.” Val told Silas as she packed up her things, she decided that she needed to get out of here. First he is rude and now he wants her as his future wife, no thank you. Val walked out of the library with Silas hot on her tail. “Hey wait up I just wanted to talk.” Silas called out. “Hmm, let me think about it. No.” Val said throwing his words back at him. He looked hurt. Apparently, he can dish it out but he cannot take it Val thought. She needed to get this paper done before Saturday , she really wanted to get it done before the end of today and that would not happen if she let herself get distracted by Silas anymore. Val made her way back to her apartment shaking off the bad feeling she got when she saw hurt on Silas’s face. She just hopped it would not have any effect on her job. Friday – 1 day before the ball Val and Shayla decided that since they both had the day off they would do a spa/ ball prep day. The Greys had closed the firm for the day to focus on what they needed to do for the ball and Shayla normally has Fridays off. The girls did face masks, foot soaks, manis and pedis, cucumbers on their eyes, relaxed in the sauna in the apartment building gym, and talked about anything and everything. Val was able to relax and let loose since she had finished her paper this morning before they got started. They had planned on finishing their day with pizza and a movie. Val Couldn’t be more relax if she tried.
