I was sent to the gynaecology department, then transferred to the oncology department.
On the way again, I woke up from my coma because I was vomiting blood. Alexander's eyes were red, and he was crying.
"Lizzy, I'm sorry. Don't be afraid. It's going to be okay. I'm going to fix you up."
I just spat blood.
The doctor who saw me was the same one from before. I heard him sigh.
"The new treatment plan I reported gave Mrs.Bennet a chance to survive."
"She was relying on the baby to keep her going. Now the baby is gone, she doesn't even have the will to survive. Her condition has suddenly got worse. The cancer has spread. There is no longer any need for treatment."
Alexander shouted at the doctor, "What do you mean there is no need for treatment? I don't believe you! I'll find someone else to treat her if you don't, get out!"
The doctor shook his head.
"We can't cure Mrs.Bennet. Any hospital will give the same result."
"If we can't cure her at home, we'll go abroad. We can cure her!"
He tried to hug me, but I pushed him away.
I don't want to die abroad.
He stared at me, his eyes red.
"Lizzy. I won't let you die."
"I'll take you home later."
He left, and the doctor had to go too.
I smashed the glass on the floor.
I got out of bed and cut my wrist with a sharp piece of glass.
"Lizzy, what are you doing?"
Alexander came back and cupped my hand.
Alexander left but came back, taking my hand in his, his whole body shaking gently.
In an instant, he was yanked backward by someone.
"Alexander, you trash, wasn't it enough that you got Lizzy to lose her baby? Now you're here to hurt her more? Are you trying to kill her faster?"
"She and the baby could have made it, all because of you! Why don't you go to hell!"
It's Ann, she's come from out of town.
She pulled Alexander away and squatted in front of me, took my hand and gently blew on it, shedding tears out of sheer heartbreak.
"Don't hurt yourself."
Seeing her, my heart started beating again. I felt a little pain and tears came to my eyes.
"It hurts!" I said, "Ann, I want to go home.'
She hugged me.
"I'll take you home."
Alexander stayed on the ground, head down.
My wrist was bandaged, and Alexander didn't say I should go abroad for treatment again.
He spent a lot of time and money finding experts in the capital city to see if they could cure me.
The experts all agreed I was dying.
I left the hospital with Ann, who packed my things. Alexander came with us too.
Ann and I have been friends since childhood. We were in the same class from primary school to high school.
We only had to say goodbye when we went to college, and even though we worked in different cities afterwards, our bond stayed strong.
I went to my parents' grave.
They loved me, so they must have liked my baby!
I buried the baby next to their graves and put up a stone.
After everything was done, I sat down in front of the unmarked stone and pressed my face to it.
"Be good, mummy will come to be with you soon, don't be afraid."
Alexander bowed, kneeling in front of the new grave and sobbing.
