Chapter 3

" I didn't expect him to be this content. I really appreciate".

"Xanderrrr" a high pitched voice called him. I turned to the door to see who disrupted the conversation and my eyes met a model like woman who had perfectly tanned skin and blonde hair.

" What are you doing here?, I thought I said you should wait in the car" Mr Kingston said.

" Well you were taking too long and I got tired" Hailey turned her nose up in the air as a sign of superiority.

" it has just been three minutes".

Mr Kingston seemed really upset but I wasn't really sure about that. I'm assuming Hailey is his girlfriend since he spent valentine day with her. But why is he so rude to her?.

"You can go back now, I will be down in like two minutes".

Hailey was reluctant, but went back to the car to wait.

" I'm so sorry about her" Mr Kingston apologised.

" it's no problem"

" Thanks so much for watching Alex"

"He is amazing" I told him.

Mr Kingston gazed lovingly at his son in his arms" He is amazing isn't he?".

His gaze immediately snapped up " Alright, I think we should get going now before he wakes up and doesn't go back to sleep".

I nodded and walked him towards the door "Thank you so much for watching him" Mr Kingston said handing me a check

" No I can't accept, you really don't have to pay me, i was very happy to do this" I said rejecting the offer.

" No I insist, consider it as a token of appreciation for the joy you've brought to alex"he asserted.

"Daddy" Alex called while tugging at my sleeves" I want chocolate cookies".

I sighed and turned towards him" Alex I am a bit busy " I said deeply engrossed in my work

It has been a week since i had been juggling responsibilities of both work and parenting and I have not found a suitable replacement for Ms . Marie yet, leaving me no choice but to bring Alex to the office with me every day. Alex has not really been having fun and I feel so guilty because I feel it has been my fault, but I don't have any choice presently.

" Daddy I really really want cookies". Alex said pouting and i felt so bad. He has been such a good boy so I don't think I can deny him this small request so I decided to satisfy his sweet tooth.

" OK, let's go".

Alex cheered and I knew I was teaching in that whatever he wants, he gets but I couldn't help it.

I took Alex's hand and went downstairs, stopping at the receptionist desk I told her to cancel the rest of my appointments for the day. And then we walked down to Lyra's bakery which was conveniently located not too far from the office.

As we entered the bakery, Alex couldn't contain his excitement and ran right up to the counter , cutting in front of four people who had been waiting in line. I went to pull him to the back but by the time I got there he was already sitting on the counter with a bag of cookies in his hands given to him by Anita.

Slightly embrassed by my son's impulsiveness I quickly apologised to the people in line and went up to Alex " You can't just go to the front of the line like that, all this people have been waiting" I told him.

Alex immediately mumbled an apology and then went back to eating his cookies. Ms. Knight was busily taking up orders so I waited till she was done before I spoke to her.

" I'm so sorry about Alex behaviour, he can be quite enthusiastic".

" Don't worry about it, I'm always so happy to see alex".

I tried to hand Ms. Knight some money for the cookies, but she wouldn't take it.

" it's on the house, consider it a sweet treat for Alex's enthusiasm". I eventually gave up trying to make her accept the money.

"So you are quite busy today" I said after she finished taking another order

" Well it's always this busy, but I love it"she said out of breath from all the rushing around.

" Do you have anyone helping you" I asked since I didn't see anyone around.

" No its just me".

I nodded, unsure of what to say next, but Alex immediately jumped to the rescue "Well it has also been me and daddy in the office".

" Still haven't found a babysitter?".

"No" I shook my head.

" I could help if you don't mind" she said offering her assistance. Of course, she is busier than she can handle but she is still rendering her help to others. I've never met someone like her who is always acting in the interest of others instead of themselves.

"No don't worry about it, you have a lot to handle" I told her. She may be offering to help but I don't want to over stress her. And a five years old was a lot to handle.

" it's no trouble and Alex is a very good boy, beside the shop is closed Wednesday and Thursday so those days will be super easy".

" I don't really know...........".

" Pleaseee" Alex and Anita begged him trying to convince him. Alex was pouting and even Ms.Knight had an expression similar to a pouting face.

"Okay, Fine" I couldn't resist both of them " but that will be until I find a new babysitter".

Alex and Ms.Knight both cheered and I couldn't help but smile.

Today is Alex first day with Ms.Knight and I couldn't shake a sense of worry but not about Alex's safety. I know she will be perfectly fine with Ms.Knight and I have nothing to worry about, but it was Ms.Knight I was worried about , with Alex enthusiasm I feel like this arrangement is going to be too much for her.

But she and Alex were so happy and i couldn't just say no.

Especially after the large smile I saw on Ms.Knight face when I accepted. Her eyes sparkled with joy and excitement and it was as if it drew me in more.

" OK Alex, make sure you behave yourself and listen to everything Ms.Knight says okay?" I said as we neared the bakery

"Yes daddy, don't worry I'm a big boy" he said with excitement showing on his face and I let him run through the door of the bakery. He ran straight up to Ms.Knight and stood beside her.

" Alex" Ms.Knight exclaimed happily as she rubbed the top of Alex's head.
