Death of a Friend

Tatiana was finally found dead. Her body drained of all blood. Even I could see that it had been used in some sort of blood ritual. As I looked at her tiny form it was all I could do to not wonder what or who had caused it. She was abnormally strong and really could have easily overpowered most supernaturals. My senses told me Alec was in the room. I looked around until I saw his glowing eyes in the darkest corner. Fitting for sure. "Get out, this is my time," I growled at him. I was in no mood to be even the slightest bit diplomatic. "She was my sibling to you bastard," I hissed barring my fangs at him. "You look like an Angry chipmunk," Alec scoffed as if talking to a child. I lunged at him. Teeth bared and my fingers claws. I had enough of his patronizing crap. Regardless of whether he thought I tried or not I was just done. We went at each other like what we were. Vampires. Ruthless, blood-lusting beasts of death and violence. Each of taking chunks and sharing massive wounds as we tried in earnest to kill the other. The growling, sounds of flesh smacking or slicing as the scent of blood oozed into the air. A heady mix of copper and iron driving our lust for death faster than before. "I have been longing to kill you," he hissed as he attacked again. I flung him through the wall and out into the night. Launching after him I gave no thought to the piece of wood in his hand as it slipped into my chest. "Ha! I have killed the mighty Athens!" Alec shouted in triumph. I pulled the wood from my chest hearing a sucking sound followed by a pop. Holding the wood I turned stabbing it into his heart, I watched as his eyes opened in surprise. They turned to anger and then became oddly happy. "Thank you," he breathed as fell to the ground. I fell on my knees too, holding him. We had shared time as friends. Even as an asshole I still thought of him as a family in a way. "Why would you say that?" Tears threatened to spill from my eyes. "The pain of not being with my mate is now gone." he coughed slamming his hand down on the wood instead of pulling it out. His body burned suddenly a smile on his face as ashes were only left. I looked back at the blood and damages our fight had done. Looking at myself, I could not stay here any longer I needed to leave. It would be easy to kill me now, or I would go on a killing spree with nothing to hold me back. If I murdered an innocent I would not last much less killing many innocents with the blood loss I had endured. Appearing in my dungeon, I began to eat everything in each cell. I cared not for their screams just their blood. When there was nothing left to eat there, I was able to appear at a place I had been holding back from. A cave of criminals who slaughtered everyone for their goods. I waited for their return. Killing them all as I drank. I laid in the deepest portion of the cave, on a slab of stone realizing my life decisions had at some point become reckless. I was in this dangerous state now because of one. I dared not let myself out in fear of doing my worst to those who did not deserve it. I closed my eyes as sleep took me. Waking I found I had healed. I was still dangerously thirsty, yet had a sliver of the control building. I blinked back to my cells below the castle to find my servants had refilled it. I was not sure how they had managed but I was pleased. They had also left me a note: We know you are healing, we will get you more food as needed. We left bags of our blood in the small cooling area near the door to help. I crumpled the paper in my hand, tossing it over my shoulder I launched at the dug-in-the-wall hole they had left the blood. I slurped up the blood, not even making a dent in my hunger as I launched onto one of the new meals they left. Clearing out the cells once again I appeared in the cells of Alec's house. There are 15 to a cell. He had 20 cells and 5 cages with 8 people packed in. I started cleaning them out. I was about through 150 more when the need to sleep arose. I appeared in my bed this time. Dirt, blood, chunks of flesh stuck to me like the demon I was. I laid down sleep hit me hard. When I woke, I almost felt like myself. I stepped into a bath the servants had made me. It took several to wash the blood and nasty away. "Master we have more in the dungeon if you still need food." My servant shivered in the doorway. "I will be back shortly." Disappearing again and appearing in Alec's dungeon I ate more. I was not sure how long this went on but I noticed how people changed. My healing was slow at first taking months to mend the huge gashes and open wounds that littered my body. I would not be so careless the next time I have to fight another vampire. I would do better I promised myself. Once I was fully within my right mind and the blood lust had become controllable I found several hundred years had passed. I was completely surprised. I had slept in that cave for over 80 years healing what little bit I had in the beginning. Every time I slept while injured it had been from 60 down to 20 years. The time had flown by and I didn't"t even know it. The funny thing was out of all, of this, I would realize I was the oldest vampire on the planet. I would not fight another vampire like that again.
