#6 Meeting my mate

Maddy Pov. “Maddy!” I suddenly hear Maddow shout. I'm scared to death. "Jeez, what's going on? Why are you yelling like that?" I ask, shocked. "Because you didn't hear me the first three times." She replied, slightly irritated. “Oops, sorry.” I apologize. "We really have to figure something out about this. Every time you're reading, you're shutting me out." She says. "I'm sorry, that's not my intention." I respond. "But what did you want to say?" I ask carefully. "I have a feeling. I don't know why, but I feel restless." She says. "Restless? What do you mean?" I ask. "I have no idea. Like we have to go." She says. "I'm not following you for a moment. Where to?" "I have no idea. I just know that we shouldn't stay here." I close my book and stand up. I give her control. “Alright, lead the way.” Maddow leads us down the stairs. “Wow, slow down.” I say as we almost fall over. Maddow walks downstairs a little more calmly. I hear the voices of my father and Alpha Jeffrey around the corner. I hear my father telling me that Dennis is still our head trainer and will join them. To help with training. Good. If that useless son of mine will hurry up. If the plan fails because he is late, I will disown him. He is such a wimp. His thoughts frighten me. I remain frozen in place. Where is he? This is our chance to surprise Jason and take over the pack. I've heard enough. I need to do something. "Dad?! Dad!? I need to talk to you!" I shout as I run down the stairs. “Maddy?” Can it wait? I'm still busy." He says, he sounds a bit irritated. "Well, no, I'd rather not." I say and look at him intently. I hope he gets the hint. I can't send him a mind link, because then Alpha Jeffrey will notice that something is going on. I keep looking at my father, and finally, he gives in. "Excuse me, Alpha Jeffrey. I'll be right back." He says with a small smile. "But of course. I know what children are like, take your time." He answers kindly. Of course, he thinks so; it gives his son more time to show up. We walk into the next room and I close the door. "What is so important that can't wait? " My father says a bit angrily. "It's a trap." I whisper. "What do you mean?!" He hisses back. "I heard it, it's a trap." I say softly. My father curses something under his breath. Something along the lines of that he was right and shouldn't have listened to my mother. I try to hold back a chuckle. “What did you hear?” He asks. “Not much, just that he's waiting for his son so he can attack.” I say and my father nods. He sighs and pinches his nose. He always does that when he thinks about an unexpected situation. "Alright, this is what we're going to do. You keep your powers open, alert me if you hear anything. I'm going to confront him and throw him off our ground." He decides. “I want you to stay behind me.” He says and I nod. My father opens the door and Alpha Jeffrey is holding his phone. He looks angry. I knew I couldn't count on him, all I wanted was for him to be on time, and he can't even do that. Well, it sounds like they really have a perfect bond. Even though his son is an arrogant jerk, I feel sorry for him. It's terrible that your father thinks that way about you. I'm glad I have a better relationship with my parents. "Is everything okay?" Alpha Jeffrey asks with a fake smile. My father looks at him skeptically. "I don't know. Is it?" He asks. Alpha Jeffrey looks at him without understanding. "What do you mean? Why wouldn't it be okay?" Alpha Jeffrey asks. He straightens his back, trying to appear confident. But I know better. His thoughts run in all directions. "Perhaps because I have heard that you are here under false pretenses?" My father says. I don't understand why he keeps stringing him along like that. Why doesn't he just tell it like it is and send him away? "I don't know what you're talking about. I'm here for help. With the rogues." Alpha Jeffrey replies. "You can keep saying that, but I don't believe you." My father says. Jeffrey glares at my father. "Are you accusing me of lying?" He shouts, insulted. "Well, whoever the shoe fits." My father says. "How dare you! So disrespectful." He growls. My father walks quietly towards him. "You know what's disrespectful? You, coming here, to my house and thinking you can trick me here!" My father says and grabbing his shoulders and pushing him towards the door. "Don't touch me, you piece of s**t!" Jeffrey growls. Kevin Pov. When I arrive at the Blue Lake pack, there is no one to meet me. Hmm strange, usually there is always someone there. Unsuspectingly, I walk into the pack house. As soon as I open the door, it becomes clear to me why no one was waiting for me. I hear several voices shouting loudly and one of them belongs to my father. I walk towards the shouting. My wolf, Keith, is suddenly very enthusiastic and a wonderful smell fills my nose. A mix of roasted nuts and freshly cut grass. "Mate, our mate is here!" Keith says very happily. I walk faster and faster, chasing the scent. I completely forgot that I actually went towards the shouting, towards my father. But the more I follow that delicious smell, the closer I get to my father. As I enter the room, I see my father and the Alpha of the Blue Lake pack standing face to face, ready to attack each other. And even though I know I should be standing by my father's side, and perhaps intervening, I focus on the person standing behind them. How come I didn't notice last time I saw her, that she was so pretty? While I admire her, Keith jumps up and down excitedly. I let my gaze slide over her, all perfection. I walk to her with determination, I can't wait to hold her. Then, she crosses her arms demonstratively. I look into her eyes. She doesn't seem very happy about the fact that we are mates. I stand still, confused, and I watch her take me in with doubt. I don't get it. Aren't we always happy when we meet our mate?
