#7 My Mate

1536 Words
Maddy Pov. As my father confronts Alpha Jeffrey, I mind link my mother to come quickly. In the meantime, several people have come towards the noise; they are curious why the Alpha is shouting like that. That's not surprising because it's rare that he goes out of his way like this. I concentrate on Alpha Jeffrey's thoughts, if he decides to attack unexpectedly, Hopefully I can warn my father in time. Out of nowhere, it feels like Maddow is enthusiastically running circles in my head, and a wonderful smell fills my nose. It is the smell of pine needles and a hint of chocolate. Where does that suddenly come from? I look around in surprise, but I don't see anything out of the ordinary. "It's our mate! He's here!" Maddow shouts happily. "What? Who is it?" I ask with some enthusiasm. I wonder who the Moon goddess gave us as a mate. I'm glad it's someone from our pack, which means I can stay here. I look around curiously, hoping to catch a glimpse of my mate. Would he realize it's me? "Do you see him yet?" I ask Maddow impatiently. "Not yet." She answers, but immediately afterward, she says, "That's him! Our mate, at the door!" I want to step forward and walk towards him when I see who it is. Kevin. Are you kidding me!? The moon goddess saddles me with him? "What's wrong with him? Go to him! He's our mate!" Maddow says. "He is insufferable! He is full of himself and only cares about himself. I don't want someone like that as my mate." I argue. "What?!" Maddow shouts in alarm. I cross my arms when I see how he looks at me, to make clear that I'm not happy with this discovery. Unlike me, he seems happy that I'm his mate. "There's no other option. I don't want someone like him as a mate. I'm going to reject him." I say to Maddow. But before I can take a step towards him, Maddow stops me. "You can't do that! If you do that, I'll never talk to you again!" She says indignantly. "What?! You're kidding me." I respond. "No, I don't. You have to give him a chance. He is our mate for a reason. The moon goddes doesn't make mistakes." She says. Without saying anything else, I look at Kevin. I let my gaze slide over him hesitantly. Maybe he´s changed? He does look very handsome. Our eyes meet, and I see the fear in his eyes. He's probably wondering why I don't jump on him immediately, like all other wolves do when they meet their mates. I have to admit, when I saw the way he looked at me, I felt a tingle in my stomach. I give him a small smile, which earns me a relieved smile from him. I step forward, ready to walk towards him, when I hear my father's voice again and feel his hand on my arm. I didn't notice that he and Alpha Jeffrey had stopped arguing. “Stay away from my daughter!” My father calls out to Kevin. "What, why!?" I shout indignantly. "She's my mate! You can't keep her from me!" Kevin replied indignantly. I feel a rush of excitement when I hear him call me his mate and I feel myself blush. His father grabs him. "You will not take her as your mate. I forbid it!" His father growls. I try to free myself from my father's grasp, but he firmly holds me. "I won't let you have someone like him as your mate. You deserve better!" My father says. I feel the tears welling up. "You can't be serious! You can't decide who my mate is. I decide that myself!" I shout to my father. Meanwhile, Kevin and his father go to the front door. Ready to go. It strikes me that Kevin makes little effort to break away from his father. I hear Maddow whining in my head. Was I right after all? Does he only care about himself? I make another attempt to break free. This time, I succeed, and I run after Kevin. I take his hand and feel the familiar sparks. He grabs my hand, and I see a twinkle in his eye. He brings my hand to his lips and kisses it softly. At that moment, his father roughly pulls him away. He looks at me in pain. I hope she can forgive me for not resisting. One day, I will be able to explain it to her. What does that mean? I am left stunned, and Alpha Jeffrey slams the door shut. I turn to my father in anger. "HOW COULD YOU! I HATE YOU!" I shout at him. Angry, I storm upstairs before he can say anything. I'm halfway up the stairs when I hear my mother asking what's going on. I don't listen to the answer and run to my room. I slam the door shut. I fall on the bed crying. How can he do this to me? It's not fair. “Let's go after them. They can't be that far.” Maddow suggests. "We can't do that." I answer. "Why not? He doesn't get to decide whether we accept our mate or not." She says angrily. "It's not because of that. It's what we heard Kevin think. He didn't do anything for a reason. Whatever the reason, we must respect that he is now going with his father. That he is giving in to his will." I say. I feel like she actually wants to resist, but she knows I'm right. "Maddy..." I hear my father say through the mind link. I don't want anything to do with him, and I shut him out. I feel him trying to reach out, but I'm ignoring him. Not much later, there is a soft knock on the door. If I don't respond, the door opens slowly. It's my mother. "Hey Maddy, can I come in?" She asks softly. She waits in the doorway until I indicate that she can come in. She sits down next to me on the bed. I sit up, and she puts an arm around my shoulder. "How do you feel?" She asks. The tears have just stopped, but I feel my eyes filling again. “How do you think I feel!?” I answer angrily. She looks at me sympathetically. "I'm sorry love." She says and pulls me to her. "Can't you talk to him? To change his mind?" I ask hopefully. "Oh, I did. But your father is... very determined right now." She replied. I sigh. "I don't understand. Why is he acting like this? Doesn't he want me to be happy?" I ask. My mother rubs my back soothingly, and I rest my head on her shoulder. "Oh honey, of course, he wants you to be happy... Just..." She begins. "Just not with Kevin." I finish her sentence. She sighs. "I'm sorry, honey. Give him some time. He'll come around. I'll make sure of that." She says. I chuckle when I hear her thoughts. It's nice to hear she's on my side, but I wouldn't want to be my father right now. She's pissed. "Young lady! Don't listen to my thoughts." She says sternly when she realizes I'm laughing at her. “I'm sorry, Mom, I didn't do it on purpose.” I apologize. We stay in bed until it's time to go downstairs for dinner. My father and brothers are already waiting for us when we come downstairs. My father looks at me hopefully, but I don't say anything. I've decided to give him the silent treatment. When he realizes what I'm doing, he looks to my mother for help. "You know how I feel about it Jason." She says. He throws his hands up helplessly. "Then what do you want me to do? You understand why I can't allow it, right?!" He says to my mother. I can't resist responding to this and noisily push my chair back. "You have no right! He's my mate! Not yours!" I shout to him. I roughly move my chair back further, causing it to fall over. Without waiting for his response, I storm out of the room. I'm trying to decide whether to go to my room or outside. I decide to go out. I have to run out all the frustration. I run to the forest's edge and shift into Maddow, who then runs off. Maddow suggests running to Kevin's pack, but I have to remind her that we don't know exactly where it is. And I don't want to go too far either. Even though I'm angry with my father, I don't want to worry them. Certainly not my mother, who is on my side and thinks my father is unreasonable. We'll have to wait until tomorrow. Maybe my mother can give us some information about Kevin. Perhaps she knows a way to get in touch with him. I don't know how long we have been running, but it has gotten dark, and my mother asks through the mind link if I would please come home.
