“They are here,” Isuzu said, listening to the sound of vehicles driving into the yard.
“I will get the door,” Nora mumbled with fear glowing in her eyes.
Then she ran out of the room, leaving Isuzu along with Bella and Neron.
When she got to the front door, she took a moment to breathe before turning the doorknob and opening the door.
“Good day, elder Shane,” Nora said, bowing slightly as an elderly man with winter-white hair walked past her.
After lifting her head for a second, she lowered it again when her gaze met the blood-flecked eyes of another elder.
“A pleasant afternoon to you, elder Morrowind,” Nora mumbled, focusing her eyes on the floor.
“There's nothing pleasant about the day,” Morrowind said, marching by her.
Ignoring his remark, Nora gazed up for a moment before placing her focus back on the marble tile.
“Greetings to elder Norsemen, Celestial, Horde, and Indigo,” Nora said, waiting patiently for them to walk past her.
After the last elders had walked further into the hallway, she lifted her head and closed the door.
“Where is the king?” Celestial asked with a frown.
“Please follow me. My master is upstairs along with sir. Isuzu and the girl.” Nora uttered, avoiding their cold eyes.
Then she walked ahead of them, leading the six elders into the guest room where Neron, Bella, and Isuzu were.
The moment the door opened and his gaze met with the elders’ icy stares, Isuzu faked a smile and said, “Celestial, Shane, Norsemen, Morrowind, Horde, and Indigo, how're my elders doing?”
“You went rogue with the king just to put his life in danger!” Elder Celestial shouted, glaring at him.
“I knew we shouldn't have let the highness leave the protection of the clan and live like these humans. When has he shifted?” Elder Shane asked, gazing at Neron with sadness in his eyes.
When Elder Shane swayed his gaze towards Isuzu, he forced smiled and said, “Well, Neron hasn't transformed since he left the clan and his hate for filth has become concerning.”
“How the mighty have fallen,” Norsemen intoned, slightly shaking his head.
“Watch your tongue before you lose it. Neron may have gone rogue, but he's still our king. One word from him and your existence will be history.” Horde said, frowning at Norsemen.
The room grew silent for a while, then Indigo softly sighed and said, “We all lost a lot that day, but our king took it the hardest.”
“Enough of the pity party! Our king is unconscious, and we are here fighting with each other! Shame on us!” Morrowind shouted, throwing his hands in the air.
Silence followed his remark for a while. Then elder Shane stared at Isuzu and said, “Have you tried to heal him?”
“Yes, the problem is her, not Neron,” Isuzu said, staring at Bella.
Everyone followed his gaze and focused their eyes on Bella’s face.
“That's her?” Morrowind asked, sounding disappointed.
“Well, yes,” Isuzu replied, swaying his attention away from Bella and focusing on the elders.
“Tell us everything that happened before this moment.”
“It all started with me provoking him to make skin contact with her because he was being overprotective of some girl he found on the road, passing by Damon's mansion.”
“Wait, Damon?”
The elders’ faces hardened and hate was the only thing that burned in their eyes.
“What does Damon have to do in this narrative?” Elder Shane asked, already having an idea of where the story was heading.
“When I first met her, she was covered in Damon's scent and in a terrible state of fright. I refused to heal her, but Neron went into his dragon state because of that.” Isuzu said, striving to remember the full details of that night.
“He hasn't shifted for years. But a human woke up his dragon. That's unusual.”
“Right, that's why I made him touch her.”
“You did what!”
“I asked Neron to touch her. But when he did, his cord glowed bright red. That's how I knew she was his mate. But she had Damon's scent on her, so if the prophecy is true then she's both their mates.”
“You fool! You began the prophecy without knowing it. That's why you youngest need us, elders!”
A look of confusion crossed Isuzu’s face as he stared at the elders, frowning at him.
“What did I do wrong?” He mumbled, striving not to get upset.
“By forcing him to make contact with her, you endangered his life and our entire race!” Elder Indigo stated, sighing softly.
“I don't understand. All I did was help him find his mate. Dragons find their mates all the time and nothing goes wrong in their life.”
“That's because their mates are other dragons. Our connection doesn't affect our mate because we are being with great power, so we are capable to restrain our emotions from affecting our mate! But she don't have such power, so she vulnerable to her emotions.”
“I don't get it.”
It became quiet as the elders scowled at him. Then Celestial narrowed her eyes at him and said, “Humans are weak but their emotions are powerful forces, powerful enough to affect a dragon to a great extent.”
“When Neron met her, her effect on him was weak because they had not bonded.” Elder Shane said, scowling at Isuzu.
Finally getting an understanding of what the elders were saying, he couldn't help but get mad at himself as he listened.
“When you made him touch her and she lit his cord, a special bond was created, a bond that binds their souls as one. When that bond is created, nothing can break it.” Elder Horde uttered with fear in his eyes.
No one spoke for a while and sorrow suddenly took over the faces of the elders.
“Our king is at risk because her pain has become his pain, her fear will be his, and if she were to die and the bond gets forcefully broken, he would be nothing but an empty shell of himself because her emotions are tied with his. He feels exactly what she feels.” Elder Shane intoned, shaking his head sadly.
“You mean this weak human has such power over Neron!” Isuzu said, clutching his fists.
“Yes, that's why you don't go doing things without the elders supervision!” Elder Norsemen said in annoyance.
“If the king loses his senses, blood will spill among our clan because of the struggle for power since he don't has an heir,” Morrowind said, worriedly gazing at the other elders.
