Chapter Six: Assets

Isaac P.O.V I walked to homeroom with my mate, hopefully the last time I do for a while because I can’t have people getting suspicious. Bay was already noticing too much with us. I didn’t give Kylie the entire truth to why we couldn’t be together yet but it was part of the reason and it seemed like enough for her. I sat next to Bay as usual and she gave me a really bad look. “What came over you this morning? Why did you hit Ray like that? Over an Elf?” Her confusion was better then overwhelming suspicions about us. I held back a growl and tried not to show my anger. “She’s apart of our pack.” It wasn’t something anyone wanted to accept but she was. The other werewolves in our class turned to me as if they wanted to say she wasn’t really. Bay spoke for them which was typical of her. “Isaac, she’s not, she’s not even a wolf she’s a magic user, she doesn’t even have our pack mark.” A pack’s mark is a mark that resembles a tattoo that all the members of a pack share, it’s unique to the pack. My fists balled up and I glared at her because what she was saying was ridiculous. “My father allowed her into the pack, therefore she’s in the pack, whether it’s temporary or not, are you challenging our pack’s alpha? And after you asked him for a favor?” I glared at her. She backed down when I asserted my dominance but kept talking just more gently. “Fine but you know Ray didn’t even see anything, when the fire detectors went off and the water started spraying we all left, he only said that because we told him about the prank.” She explained. “What do you want me to say? Good job bullying another member of our pack? You did your first prank what’s the point in another?” I watched as the homeroom teacher who was also a member of our pack walked in but, we still had a little time before class started. Bay laughed cynically. “Don’t start with that when we all treat Shane like s**t, including you.” She wasn’t wrong, all packs have a hierarchy, I was at the top and Shane was at rock bottom, an omega. The other pack members started whispering to each other. “Bay, he’s omega, Kylie isn’t, he’s not worth much.” I said. “Kylie doesn’t have a title at all, when the freshman get theirs tomorrow she should get hers, you know if she's actually a member of the pack she should do her part too.” She suggested smugly, I didn't know my mate very well, Not yet so I wasn’t sure how well she’d do since I don’t know any of her skills other than magic.  I agreed to Bay’s proposal and once lunch came around I followed my mates scent to the cafeteria. She was sitting with the other magic users. I walked over to them and they went silent, they weren’t the biggest fan of wolves. “I need to talk to Kylie, Kylie get up.” I ordered. Kylie pushed her chair back and got up. “Gee no please?” She followed me outside.  “What’re your skills?” I looked her up and down, it wasn't necessary but I took the opportunity Since it presented itself. She was rocking back and forth on the heels of her foot as she thought and it was pretty adorable. “Magic.” I looked at her blankly waiting for her to continue but she never did and we were just staring at each other until I broke the silence. “Ky, I’m gonna need more than that.” She blushed when I called her ‘Ky’ she blushed pretty easily, it didn’t take too much to flatter her. “It’s the only skill I’ve ever tried to improve, other than that, I’m fast.” I didn’t count that because fast for an elf isn’t near fast for a wolf.  I rubbed the back of my head afraid what I was gonna say next was racist. “You’re good at healing magic?”  Honestly it just made her laugh and slightly roll her eyes. “Yes, of course I’m an elf, I don’t specialize in healing magic but yeah I’m as good as any other elf.” I’m not sure why but I felt like she wasn’t being completely honest. There’s a lot mates can sense about each other, and suddenly I felt like she was hiding something from me. “Tomorrow you’re gonna need to get a title, of course it’s possible to not have a title at all but I’d rather give you a good one instead of not giving you one and the pack harass me to make you the knew omega of our house.” I told her the truth with this one to motivate her to really try tomorrow. “We’re testing the freshman for their titles and you’re gonna join them.” She looked away with an unsure expression on her face. “Isaac I know what a omega is and I know what they want me to be one, cause I’m an elf but…” I grabbed her face gently with one hand and turned it to me. “What’s wrong?” I only touched her like this because no one was around, everyone else were inside the buildings.  She sighed before she told me. “I want to stop all this separation, I want to bring all the species in this town together, unite us.” “We are united, under us werewolves.” Kylie shook her head, “The other species live in fear of you guys, that's not union. You guys stay away from each other and hate each other, just because you’re not the same.” She spoke with a lot of passion. “We could stop it can’t we? We could get everyone to get along?” I didn’t understand it but it was important to her. My hand was still on her cheek and we had gotten closer. “I don’t know what to say Kylie. I don’t see the point.” Her eyes started watering up and that really killed me.”Fine. I’ll do it myself…” She pushed my hand away. “I just want your help and that’s hard to give? You don’t even need to be that involved.” “That, I can do.” When I said that her eyes lit up, I guess all she wanted was my support. ”We’re ditching for the rest of the day, you need a little combat training for tomorrow, even if you can heal you’ll need some warrior traits.” She wiped her eyes then looked back at me with her big emerald green eyes. “Okay. Lets go.” She agreed and we left for the forest.   We found a field and I shifted into my wolf form. “You can understand me right?” Kylie nodded. “Yah, elves can talk to animals, werewolves are included in that.” She giggled. I tested her dodging but running at her and she was right, she was really fast, their are a few creatures that could keep up with a werewolves speed but I didn’t know elves were one of them. We were training and then all of the sudden she waved her arms and a force of wind forcefully threw me back and onto the ground. Kylie ran up to me and apologized. “I’m so sorry are you okay?? It’s always been hard for me to control my magic I…” I shifted back into my human form groaned, looked at my mate’s worried face and laughed, I just laughed, I can’t explain why but I did. Joy came over me and the next thing I knew we were just laid out on our backs laughing staring up at the moon.  I loved her.
