Thadius sat in his chair, his hand still on the phone. He was trying to process the information. Samuel was dead and Lilith was in the hospital near death. They had been in an accident and Andrew was missing. Hannah could barely speak and he could barely understand what she had said. She managed to tell him where they were living and the basic details before she hung up. She would be catching the first flight out to see her daughter before it was too late.
The funeral was simple, several people attended, almost all were human. They had lived as humans for the last five years so it was expected. There were a few witches who knew Lilith from her previous life. Anna and Thadius were the only two from the pack in attendance. Andrew was still missing so they couldn’t break their silence about Samuel and Lilith. The pack still believed Samuel was a rogue and the two men were at odds with each other. If anyone knew the truth it would put Andrew in harms way so they kept their silence. Anna looked everywhere for Hannah but she wasn’t there.
It had been months since the funeral and Thadius had tried several times to speak with Hannah. She had completely cut herself off from those nearest to her. She had even stepped down as the leader of her coven. The new witch in charge refused to take calls or even discuss moving forward with a treaty. The last conversation he held with her representative was to inform him that Liliths death was not an accident. They would retaliate against the wolves for her death.
13 years later
Thadius sat in his office, the last few years had affected his health. The witches had attacked several times over the years and killed four members of his pack. The biggest blow came when Anna fell ill two years ago. The doctors said it was cancer but they failed time and time again to pinpoint its location. Loosing a mate is like dying, and as soon as Robyn was ready she would take over. Pack law said she would have to be married and Thadius had already picked a suitable member from another pack. It was all set into place, With the help of the surrounding packs as witnesses. Robyn would take over the pack and no amount of scheming would change that.
Theo entered the room and offered Thadius a cup of coffee. He had been lost in thought and welcomed the distraction. “Thank you brother” Thadius said as he took a few sips. Theo sat in a chair facing him, his body relaxed and a thin smile displayed on his face. Within minutes Thadius felt weak and then slumped over in his seat. He could still hear and see but he couldn’t move. Theo stood “huh, that was too easy, I’m disappointed.” Theo grabbed Thadius by the hair and lifted his head. “I should have been the Alpha, you brought those filthy witches around. I had followers and they’ve taken them from me, I was going to challenge you but this seems so much easier. Once you’re gone I’ll take over the pack. Thanks to this little forged beauty the witches will be blamed for your death and they’ll have no choice but to follow me.” Theo held the pick like dagger in his had and pierced Thadius in the chest, he leaned in and whispered “ I have another confession, I killed Samuel, Lilith And your beloved Anna. You only have yourself to blame because of that damn treaty.” With those words Theo removed the blade and placed it on the desk for all to see.
