We were all crammed into a sitting room in the main house. I was pacing behind a couch as Jake explained what was wrong. My thoughts were racing as I paced. I could feel the tension in the air and smell the fear.
“We received it when we got back to our room. Brooks and L were the first to come to us. We picked up Jason and Tony as they were walking back to their room. I don’t know what to say Angel. John has never done anything like this before.”
I continued to pace. John had sent a company wide message to all agents. It said that if they encounter my crew or myself that they were able to take us out if they chose. He didn’t even do that with Widow when she betrayed us all. She was removed from the Agency and black listed with other agencies. He didn’t even remove us from the Agency. We were still listed as active in their system. Jason had checked.
“So what do we do?” Sara asked the room.
I stopped pacing as I noticed everyone looking to me. I sighed and closed my eyes. I had a few enemies that would enjoy killing me or anyone in my crew. What was John thinking? He basically said hunting season is open. It’s a good thing we moved when we did.
“First things first. Jason, cover our tracks the best you can. Make sure no one can find us unless we allow them to. Just work your magic for me. Sara, you and the other ladies will need to get me a list of the things you will need. No one leaves the property unless they must. Jake, you and Brooks scout the property for weaknesses. We’ll need to ensure that no one can sneak up on us. Lee, you and Tony get a list of surveillance equipment together. In the morning, Jake, Sara, Tony, and Daryl will go into town to get what we need. Tony, you’ll have to get some other vehicles for us as well. Take Brooks with you for that.”
All of them nodded. I sighed as I looked at Isabelle and Luther. “We have inadvertently brought a war to your doorstep. I am truly sorry for that. If anyone wants to leave, I’ll understand.”
Isabelle looked like I slapped her. Gretchen piped up. “I don’t think so little witch. All of us are with you. We can handle some ignorant humans.”
I smiled at Gretchen. “They know how to fight and they’ll have weapons.”
Gerald laughed at that as Gretchen disappeared before my eyes. “Don’t worry about us little witch. My wife and I have gifts as well. As does the children.”
I nodded as Gretchen reappeared in the same spot as before. “That gift will come in handy. Let’s get started. Jason take one of the smaller homes on the property and make it a control center. If you need more equipment, get me a list and I’ll make sure you have it.”
“I’ll find a local dealer and place an order. That way we can just pick it up.”
“Good idea Jason. Take Tony and Lee with you so they can order everything we need.”
Jason took off with Tony and Lee to get started. Jake and Brooks stood, they looked at Isabelle for guidance. Luther stood and motioned for them to follow him.
“Luther will help them with the property. He can show them the places we already know and help them find others.” Isabelle waved to Luther as he led the way.
“Gretchen, if you or your family need anything, please let Sara know. We’ll make sure to get it with anything else we need. Isabelle that applies to you as well.”
“We just need a few things little witch. I’ll work with your friends to come up with a list for you.” Gretchen walked toward the kitchen with Sara and the girls in tow. I saw Gerald follow them out shaking his head.
“We are pretty well stocked. Our parents are coming here so I made sure we had extra of everything.” Isabelle looked thoughtful.
“Is anyone else coming? I’ll have to let everyone know so they don’t attack anyone inadvertently.”
“Just our parents so far. I already have their room prepared in the main house. Daisy and Sam are in one of the guest bedrooms. Roy has the other. They are sharing a bathroom. Daryl took Jasper’s old room since he’s staying with you. Phillip took a home on the property close to the woods. I believe Justin took the cabin further into the woods.”
“Where does Gretchen and her family stay?” I had to ask.
“Their home is underground. It’s enchanted so when the rains come it stays dry.”
Interesting. At least I wouldn’t have to worry about them. “Good they’ll be safe then. I’ll accompany the guys tomorrow so I can make sure we have everything.”
“You most certainly will not.” I looked at Jasper as he tried to tell me what I would do.
“Oh no. You shouldn’t have said that.” Jeremy backed away from Jasper, pulling Jackson along with him.
“You have no idea what I can or cannot do. You will not dictate to me.” I didn’t get to finish telling Jasper off. Isabelle gasped. “Isabelle?”
“Someone is coming.” She looked terrified.
Phillip came into the room, “there’s a car pulling in.”
“Watch Isabelle. I’ll handle this.”
I took off towards the front door with my mates on my heels. The fresh air felt wonderful as I ran down the stairs of the porch. Too bad I won’t be able to enjoy it. Jeremy took position to my right, a little in front of me but not blocking my line of sight. Jasper and Jackson took up position behind me to either side. I watched a black sedan pull into the drive and come to a stop. I realized then that I was unarmed. How could I be so stupid? I’ve never gone anywhere unarmed. What was wrong with me?
As I searched my brain for a solution, the back door opened. The man that stepped out was new to me but his hair and eyes matched my mate. Jasper relaxed and started toward the man. I felt something was wrong. I remembered my magic then, I was never unarmed. My magic swelled within me and slid around Jasper. He stopped and looked at me.
“This is my father Angel. What’s wrong?”
“She feels something Jasper.” Jackson was studying me as I continued to stare ahead.
My power swirled inside me as I coated the car with my magic. The driver was watching me but I didn’t move. I could feel my magic soak into the car searching for the cause of my bad feeling. That’s when I saw it in my mind. In the back of the car there was another male and a female. I could feel the fear in the female. They weren’t human, but Fae. I had to protect the female. My magic coated her as well as Jasper’s father. He looked to me with curiosity.
The opposite back door opened and the other man stepped out. He seemed to be trying to pull the female out with him but my magic wouldn’t allow that. I gave him an evil smile and reached out to Jasper’s father with my mind. Get the female out of the car and get into the house please.
He looked at me shocked but reached into the back seat. Who or what are you?
We can discuss that after you are both safe.
Very well. I’m Eren and the female is my wife, Azalea.
These were Jasper’s parents. Eren pulled Azalea from the back seat and ushered her towards the house. I saw her look at me gratefully. My attention never left the stranger standing by the car. He was watching his leverage walk away. Jasper escorted his parents to the porch where Isabelle was waiting with Phillip protecting her. Once they reached the porch my magic withdrew into myself.
“Well that is unexpected.” He knocked on the roof of the car. The driver emerged.
Something didn’t feel right about them. I knew they were Fae but I couldn’t tell what kind. I felt some sort of interference. Like they were blocking me somehow. The driver got out of the car and eyed me wearily. They looked human but that didn’t mean anything. Daisy said most Fae had glamour, which is a fancy way to say they can make you see what they want. They can alter their skin, eyes, hair, pretty much any physical feature other than their height. These men were probably around Jackson’s height so that didn’t tell me anything either.
“I’ll give you two minutes to explain to me what you are doing here and why you kidnapped my mate’s parents.” My voice was even but the anger lacing through was concerning.
“Well, we were told to find you actually. They told us where you would be so we hitched a ride with those two.” The one that was in the back seat spoke for them both.
I looked at both men and realized there most certainly something off. They were average in human standards. What troubled me was once I thought I had their description it changed. My mind couldn’t get an accurate description.
“Why do you want to find me?” I had to know.
“No idea.” He shrugged.
“I don’t believe you.” The words came out with magic so they were more dangerous than I meant for them to be. My anger had become rage. My magic began to swirl inside of me like a tornado, just waiting to be released.
The driver spoke, “We were told that we needed to find you. They didn’t give us a reason. Just that we were to make you take this potion.”
“If not then I guess we can just kill you.” The other one stated so calmly.
My smile grew as I watched him pull a gun from his waist somewhere. My power intensified. I saw Jackson dragging Jeremy away from me. Jeremy looked torn, he wanted to stay by me but I was going into a blood rage. I would hurt anyone around me. I heard the gun go off but when I looked the bullet was suspended above the car. He hadn’t pointed it at me when he shot. I looked in the direction the bullet would have went and saw it was aimed at Jasper.
I lost any hold I had on my rage at that point. My magic lashed out, throwing the car away from the two kidnappers. “You have the audacity to kidnap my mate’s parents. Then when you aren’t getting your way, you try to shoot him? It’s time to see what you’re hiding from me.”
I felt my feet leave the ground as I allowed my magic free range. The two men screamed as my power lashed out at the spells they were using. Falling to their knees they held their head in their hands. I flicked my wrist sending the gun sailing away from the pair. I watched as my magic broke the spells around them layer by layer. It was fascinating even if I was in a blood rage. I felt the last layer break then their skin rippled. They both stood and stared at me in shock. I heard Jasper curse under his breath.
Both men were humanoid in appearance. Their grey skin seemed dry and washed out. I had never seen a creature like this before. Their fingers where long, almost like the aliens you see in movies. I looked to their eyes and couldn’t help the shock I felt. Their eyes were like glass, which made me wonder how they could see. The kidnapper in the backseat snarled at me, which showed me his teeth were shaped like razor sharp daggers. What were these beings?
“Do you even know what the potion is or what it would do to me?” I was giving them one last chance.
“Who cares. If it killed you than one less witch in the world.” The driver looked at his companion in fear as he waved my question off.
That was enough. My magic grabbed the potion from the driver and sent it to the porch. Daisy could tell me what it was. Before I realized what was happening, my magic shot into the two. The bullet that was still suspended in the air began to vibrate as my power flooded both creatures. I saw in their mind the message they received with the potion. It had instructions to find me and force me to drink it by any means necessary. It even had a description of me included. I didn’t see anyone else with them or who delivered the message. They were goblins and brothers.
The bullet continued to vibrate as I searched for any other information about me. There was nothing. They were paid to do this. I felt everything come to a crescendo before my head fell back on a scream. I felt my strength drain as the blood rage came to an end. I wasn’t sure what I had done but darkness edged my vision. I began to feel exhausted as the darkness grew and I began to fall. I was dragged under before I hit the ground.
********
I started to come to being held against someone’s chest. I wasn’t sure who. I could hear everyone panicking around me. Sara was crying close to me. Brooks was losing it completely. They were all trying to find out what happened and why I was unconscious. Jeremy was growling as Jackson argued with Brooks. Daisy’s voice rang out in the midst of the chaos.
“Enough! My lady will be fine. She just needs to rest.” Everyone seemed to listen to her.
“Daisy, how many times do I need to tell you to call me Angel?” I croaked out the question before I opened my eyes.
“At least one more my lady.” Daisy’s cheerful tone made me smile.
I looked around and realized that we were all in the same sitting room as before. I was completely drained and exhausted but I couldn’t have them worried about me when I was fine. Jake was holding me close to him as Brooks, Lee, Jason, L, Olesia, and Tony all stood in between us and the others. Now I know why Jeremy was growling.
“Jake, I’m alright. I lost control of my powers. Not sure what damage I caused but I’ll fix it. This was the reason I had to leave you and the crew. If it happened around any of you, I could hurt you.”
“I get it, really I do, but Brooks and I rushed back to find you suspended in the air screaming. Then you were falling. Brooks and I never stopped running until we were able to catch you. Then your wolf started growling and demanding I hand you over. I refused until I knew you were ok.” Jake sounded relieved although still stressed.
“We thought you might need us to help. I have the first aid kit just in case.” Sara managed to choke out the words as her tears slowed.
“Sara, I’m so sorry for worrying you. I’m not sure how long I’ll be conscious but Jeremy and the others will look out for me. It’s…” I fell into the darkness again.
