CHAPTER 4

“Amelia?!!” Calista ran over to the tub and was about to pull her out in a hurry when she came up to the surface of the tub gasping for air and coughing “Amelia have you gone crazy?!!!” “What were you thinking?!! Calista asked in a bold but hush tone looking scared with a sigh of relief “I'm fine Calista, I'm just taking a bath and trying to clear my head at the same time” Amelia responded calmly Her eyes looking tired and worn out, with dark circles underneath her eyes It looks like she barely slept Calista moved closely to her and held her hands and gave out a calm sigh “I was just worried, you literally just scared me” “Please do not do anything stupid” Calista said in a worried tone “I'm fine Calista, you worry too much” Amelia responded in tired tone letting go of Calista's hand and resting her back in the tub,her face looking forward her face giving no expression except tiredness She looked too worn out. Amelia turned her head toward Calista and said “I'll be going to work today, can I stay here for a few days though? I'm not ready to go home and I doubt Nate even knows or cares if I'm home, can I stay?” “Definitely, but are you sure you'll be fine going to work?” Calista asked being worried about her friend “Yeah, everything will be fine” Amelia responded. Calista left after checking and questioning repeatedly if she was fine but she gave her the same answer that she is Later on, Amelia came out of the bathroom and begun to dress for work She brushed and let her hair down unusually, and wore a pair baggy black trousers with a white shirt Then she put on a pair of black heels with some accessories and a red lipstick After she was done she went downstairs and told Calista she was already leaving for work, while Calista got back to her normal day's work. She boarded a taxi to work and arrived 15min later She would have driven Calista's car to work but she didn't want to feel like a burden coupled with the fact she is staying there for a while. She saw people waiting for the elevator and boarded with them after it had arrived As the elevator kept going up it made a stop and when it opened she saw Nathaniel and Damien together, they were both talking and boarded the elevator the elevator closed and kept going up Amelia didn't say a word at the elevator, she felt empty and exhausted with all sense of hope slipping away Nathaniel barely glanced at her, he just continued talking to Damien until they got off Amelia didn't say anything, she just kept on hearing the employees inside the elevator gushing at him quietly “OMG! I almost fainted! I can't believe I rode the elevator with the CEO!” One employee said “He looks more handsome everyday, imagine being his wife and having a perfect man like him as a husband” “All my dreams would come true” the employees kept on admiring and gushing over him until it was time to get off Amelia felt a bit of anger with what the employees said “Perfect?!!! Having a husband like him would be a dream come true?!!” Her tongue pushed the roof of her upper teeth with a bit of force, with her hands folded together across her chest She gave a frustrating sigh before walking into her office. It was already 10pm by time she was done, she packed her things and left the office She went out to board a taxi but found none She sat down by the bench on the road, she got lost in her thought about how everything around her is just falling apart Tears were about roll down when suddenly her phone rang It was Ezekiel, she picked up the call in a hurry thinking something had happened and asked if her son was fine “He is fine ma'am, he woke up from sleep and kept asking of you so I decided to call you” Ezekiel said “Can you give him the phone? let me talk to him” Amelia asked She spoke to Louis a bit over the phone assuring him that everything was alright He needed not to worry, that she is just caught up with work and she will see him soon. Just when she was about to end the call, she heard a familiar voice call out her name “Amelia?” She turned around to see who it was only to see “Elijah?!!” Before she said anything further she ended the call with her son “Oh my God, it's been ages” Elijah said cheerfully as he hugged Amelia “How have you been” he asked She laughed also, so surprised and confused to see him “What? How? What are you doing here? I'm fine” she smiled while asking “Well, I saw you sitting here and decided to say hello “ “Do you need a lift?” He asked “i was actually waiting to board a cab but sure” she said She entered the Elijah's car and they drove off to Calista's house “It's soo nice to see you again” Elijah said still happy about seeing her Elijah and Amelia have been friends since college days They've always been so close that people around them thought they were a couple and would definitely end up being together and getting married But Elijah suddenly left, to finish his studies abroad and the last time she heard of him She was told he was busy traveling around the world “I heard you weren't here anymore, that you are busy traveling around the world I'm so surprised to see you back here” “Well, I decided to come back and I can't believe I'm seeing you again it's like the universe answered my prayers of seeing you again” Amelia chuckled “So why are you back? Are you back here to get married?” She asked teasingly He chuckled and replied “No” “But I definitely came back to see someone” Amelia looked at him playful and teasingly asked him “Who?” He responded “My first love”
