Shattered Glass

CLAIRE’S POV: I wake up feeling warm. It’s very warm and comforting. It’s such a nice feeling. I snuggle more into the warmth and sighed happily. I could get used to this. Realization struck me as I opened my eyes, sat up and let out a scream. “Ah f**k! Claire, are you okay? What’s wrong?” His hands was on my shoulders. Here it goes. He’s gonna hurt me. I shouldn’t have woken him up. “I’m sorry.” I let out a sob. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you up. Please, don’t hurt me. I’m so sorry.” “Claire, it’s...oh.” He let go of me and pulled away. “I’m sorry, Claire.” He mumbled. Why is he sorry? I don’t understand. I curled into a bad and cried even more. “Claire...” Blake sounds hurt and angry at the same time. I found myself starting to shake as two strong arms pulled me up and set me comfortably on Blake’s lap. His hands touched my bare thighs and it sent tingles all over my body. Even if how scared I am of Blake, my body has its own mind and starts to crave for his touch. My body urging me to come closer to him, so I let it. I buried my face on the crook of his neck, tears still streaming down my face. Wherever my skin touches his, there are tingles. He sighed in relief as he inhaled my scent. No matter how scare I am, I love this. I feel…safe. I don’t understand. How can I feel scared and safe at the same time? But all I wanna do is stay like this forever. It’s safe in between his arms. There’s comfort and its making me feel better. I close my eyes, feeling sleepy again. We just sat there together. Blake whispering all these nice things to me, being sweet and gentle, something I didn’t know an alpha is capable of. My previous alpha was never like this even to his mate. Maybe Blake really is different. After a few more minutes when I’ve had enough, I pushed him gently. He sets me down slowly on the bed as he stood up. He ran his fingers to his hair before rubbing the back of his neck. His eyes turning black before going back to its original color. “I’m gonna be home late, Claire. I have things to handle.” He seemed sad. “I’ll send Leila over and she will keep you company.” That kinda made me sad also. My body wants him here with me. I only nodded. “I’ll go take a shower.” He said and walked away. I looked around and found a bookshelf. I’ve always loved to read. I used to have these three books and I have read them countless times before Alpha Jason burnt all of them. I slowly stood up and went over the shelf. Examining it, a green book caught my eyes, To Kill a Mockingbird. Curiosity struck me so I went back to the bed and read it. Page by page, I read them carefully. It’s a very interesting book. After a while, the bathroom door opened revealing a shirtless Blake. Blush immediately crawled up my face. Little droplets of water trickled down his abs. He’s much built and looking very strong that I know any minute, he can snap me bones by bones. I suddenly felt weird in between my thighs and I have no idea what it is. His low laugh interrupted my thoughts so I looked away. “Did I interrupt something, little mate?” He approached me and sat next to me. He pulled me up and made me sit on his lap again. I didn’t move. I couldn’t seem to move. Besides the weird feeling in between my thighs, I can’t get it out of my system that he’s half naked. “I didn’t know you like to read.” He rested his chin on top of my shoulder and inhaled my scent. I tried to start reading again but I just couldn’t. He was silent and suddenly let out a growl that made me slide off his lap. “I’m sorry, Claire. That wasn’t meant for you. Leila is on her way up. I have to go.” He grabbed a shirt, put it on and instead of taking the elevator, he just jumped off the window. “Oh, goddess.” I looked down by the window and see him running. Why is he on a rush? It’s making me feel empty now that he’s not here. I sighed but someone opened the door. I turned my gaze to the door and saw Leila coming in with a smile and a tray of food. “Good morning, Claire.” She greeted. I smiled back, “Good morning to you too, Leila.” “How did you sleep last night?” She asked while placing the tray on the table. I didn’t move and instead blush. How do I admit to her that last night was the best sleep I’ve ever had and because his brother was on the same bed with me. “I-it was nice.” She gave me a nod with a smile, “Alright. Then let’s get you fed and cleaned up Claire.” I excitedly went to her and sat on one of the chairs. We ate together while watching the television. A question suddenly popped in my head. “Leila, is something wrong with the pack? Blake left on a hurry he had to jump off the window.” She tensed up, “Oh don’t worry, Claire. It’s all taken care of. There was just a rogue breach that he had to act immediately.” I nodded but didn’t answer. It worries me. He was angry and tensed up when he left. What if it’s something more serious? After finishing my food, I went to the sink and washed my plate. “Oh no, Claire. Let me do it.” Leila stood up to replace me. I gave her a reassuring smile, “it’s okay, Leila. I can do this.” I also grabbed her plate and washed it. “Let’s get you cleaned up.” She said and went to the closet and picked clothes for me. Why is Leila so nice to me? Why are all of them so nice to me? This pack is very different from my old one. This pack is comforting. Leila gave me the clothes she picked so I took a bath. ~ “Claire, are you still scared of Blake?” She asked, finishing up the bandage on my arm. I hesitated to answer, “He’s…unpredictable.” Leila nodded, seeming to understand the only word I described him. “That, I agree. But Claire, Blake is your mate. He will never hurt you, not purposely. He easily gets mad and frustrated but he is trying his best to be very patient with you so he won’t scare you off. It’s his job to protect you and love you.” I tilted my head at her questioningly. “W-what’s my job?” “Well, it’s also your job to protect him and love him. Comfort him when he’s upset or angry, just be there for him.” “Yeah, I can do that.” Tears started forming in my eyes, “But…I’m so scared.” Leila hugged me, caressing my back every so gently. “Hush, little one. It’s going to be okay. I understand you’re scared, and Blake understands that too. Take your time, no one’s rushing you.” “Thank you.” I mumbled. “C-Claire,” she called my name so I pulled away. Her eyes was black and worry is evident. “A rogue is coming this way. Let’s g-…” There was a loud crash and window glass shattering. There was a loud growl. Leila went in front of me and growled too, “Just stay behind me, Claire.”
