Chapter 13 - The hunter

Derek POV

“Because I am one, a hunter… a pure hunter” she said and my world stops for a second.

I knew this was going to be the answer when I asked the question but I hoped, I prayed to the goddess that she would answer differently.

that can’t be, I can’t be mated to a hunter, the killer of my kind, no wonder she was not fazed by the knowledge of our existence and she didn’t give a s**t that I’m an alpha, she was right all along we can’t be together…

Why? Just why would the moon goddess do that to me? Haven’t I been through enough?

I feel Rex is trying to crawl out as my rage grows, I look around and I see everybody’s shocked faces.

I stand up and slam my fist to my desk splitting it in half, I’m breathing heavily as I’m trying to control my wolf but he is on the surface, my eyes are pitch black and my voice comes out deep and guttural “GET OUT”

Dylan instinctively takes a protective stance in front of Alexandria and he is right to do so because I don’t know what I would do next, I’m blinded by anger as all the memories comes back.

I like to believe I would never hurt her, hunter or not but I can’t say the same about my wolf, he is an animal after all.

“I’m not moving until you reject me” she says as she pushes Dylan to the side.

“Careful Alexandria his wolf is out” Dylan warns her.

“I don’t give a s**t” she tells him then turns to me “do you think you are scaring me, Do you think you are the first werewolf I fight, hell you are not even the first alpha, so you better rail in your beast and reject me, I have places to go” she says almost bored, is she f*****g kidding me?

“Where do you want to go hunter? I’m not letting you out of here to go kill other werewolves” I tell her,trying to gain my sense back.

“I’m not a f*****g sub , I’m a pure hunter, we only kill those who deserve it” she says all offended now.

“How do we know you are not lying? You said pures are only males? How do we know you are not after this attack?” I say gaining more control of my wolf now and actually thinking.

“well I’m what you call 'special', one of a kind even and if I’m after the attack why would I come and give you information and what would I gain from it anyway, pull your head from your wolf’s ass and think” she is almost yelling now.

I lose control of my wolf as he takes over , he doesn’t handle disrespect well and i was barely keeping control as it is with her shocking revelation triggering all the memories back.

still in human form he jumps over the broken desk and goes right to her throat grabbing it and pinning her to the wall.

“Disrespect me again hunter and see what happens” I try to fight for control back as I feel Dean and Dylan trying to pull him off of her but failing.

“Bring it on mutt” she chokes out, does she want him to kill her?

I feel Rex tightening his grip on her throat losing all his restraint and her eyes starts to flatter and roll back.

No no no he is killing her.

“Stop Rex, she is going to die you motherfucker” I try to tell my wolf and I feel him starting to register what is happening.

I gather all my strength and try to gain control, at the same time I hear Dylan furiously growling then bites the arm that is holding her throat while still in human form which makes Rex lose focus for a second in surprise and it’s enough for me to gain control back.

I let go of her and Dylan release my arms and grabs a violently coughing Alexandria before she hits the floor.

I take few steps back mortified with what just happened, what I let happen.

“Derek, are you there?” Dean asks still holding me back and I nod.

Everything calms down, I try to go to her but I’m stopped with a growl from Dylan who is standing between us now ready to defend his Luna.

“Dylan, it’s me, I’m back, I just want to know if she is okay” I say trying to assure him, but its Alexandria who answers back.

“Don’t you dare come near me again, this time you took me by surprise, next time I will f*****g kill you and believe me you won’t be the first alpha I kill” she threatens me and I’m left speechless.

There is no excuse for what that f*****g i***t did... I smell blood, her blood.

“You are bleeding, we have to take you to the hospital” Sophia says a little panicked.

“It’s just the wound re-opened, no big deal” Alexandria says.

“No it’s your head” Sophia says.

“must be when that asshole pushed me to the waldbsfjs….” she mutters gibberish before she faints.

“ALEXANDRIA” I scream her name. What have I done?

Dean POV

Dylan and Sophia took Alexandria to the hospital… again, and I’m trying to contain my deranged brother.

I really don’t know who he is anymore, never in a million years could I have imagined that Derek, my big brother, the protector of our pack would lay a hand on a woman after the childhood we had, and his mate of all people, hunter or not.

He stops from his pacing and looks at me

“Why are you looking at me like that?”Derek asks.

“Like what?”I ask back.

“Like I’m a disgusting piece of s**t … Maybe because I am... I can’t believe Rex did that” he finishes hanging his head down in shame.

“It’s not just Rex, Derek … this is on you too, You are a f*****g alpha, you should be able to control your wolf” I say getting irritated now, he is trying to put the blame on his wolf as if it’s not a part of him.

“But I can’t… all I see is James and how they killed him” Derek says.

“That was not your fault, no matter what Dad and alpha Michael say, we were just kids” I try to reason.

“I was 16, hardly a kid Dean… you know alpha Michael have every right to hate me, James was his son, his heir…he was going to be a great alpha, he was already a great alpha, he died saving me” Derek says turning his back at me now.

I stand up and grab his shoulders and turn him to face me.

“And James was almost 20, he was the adult and as a future alpha he did the right thing, What Dad did to you… there is nothing on earth to justify a father doing that to his son, the guardians wouldn’t have came if he was right, he was always looking for an excuse to hurt us”.

I grab both of his shoulders and continue “James loved you like a little brother, he would have saved you again and again, there was nothing you could do, they came for him not you… you suffered enough brother… and you’ve lost enough, don’t lose her too… it’s time to forgive yourself and let it go”.

“I’m not the only one who lost someone that day… you lost Amelia too” Derek says and I feel a mix of emotions every time I hear her name, anger and grief.

Amelia is James’ younger sister and was my best friend but I had a crush on her since we were 5 years old.

After her brother’s death, she closed off to herself after that and I only saw her few times mostly from afar.

The last time I saw her was at her 18th birthday, she was one month older than me, I wanted to wish her a happy birthday but she almost bit my head off telling me that her mate Richard, the son of beta Jackson gets very jealous and warned me to ever come near her again but I could never really get her out of my mind.

“that was Amelia’s choice Derek; she is the one who cut us off plus she was just a childhood friend that I lost contact with… and don’t try to change the subject, you need to pull yourself together and decide what to do with Alexandria, you don’t need to lose her too” I say moving away .

“And I can’t have her either Dean, she is a hunter for crying out loud, she kills our kind, she can’t be a Luna… she doesn’t want to anyway” Derek says.

“Yes, she is a hunter but she saved my life Derek and she gave us information about her kind to help us and I have a feeling that you rejecting her is not really what she wants, and you know it ” I try to reason with him yet again.

“it doesn’t matter anyway, I can’t do that to our pack, if it comes out what she is, every pack in the region will try to attack us, that if I got over what her kind did In the first place, as soon as she is out of the hospital and safe we should get this over with… do we know anything about the message that she received? Who is she running from?” Derek asks.

“No, nothing new” I simply answer having nothing more to add.

“okay, for the time being we should come up with a reason why a human is staying in our pack then convince her to stay in our pack and I think we should just ask her about the message directly as we are getting nowhere otherwise” Derek concludes and I nod in agreement.

“Sounds like a plan, I’m heading to the hospital now to check on her and I’ll give you an update” I tell him as I start to leave and he says nothing in response.

I can’t blame him, it’s a terrible situation he is in, to finally find your mate just to realize you can’t be with her… but I don’t believe she is like the hunters we heard of or dealt with, she saved my life risking her own, she didn’t try to weave herself in to our life to gain info, it was quite the opposite, she can’t be malicious, the moon goddess wouldn’t do that to him, right?
