Derek POV
We finish the battle and capture few alive.
something is not right with this attack, no wolf, rogue, or not, dared to attack us for years now and to actually be with hunters?
I pause on that thought for now and make sure all my men are alright before I head back to the pack house, I need to see her, to make sure she is okay
“Move faster, human” My wolf Rex keeps nagging me.
“If I move any faster people will know something is up and we don’t want them to know about her yet, you i***t”
“I don’t care I need to see mate”
“What will you do when we reject her like she wants?”
Rex lets out a furious growl that I actually had to hold my head from the pain .
“We are not rejecting her and she is not leaving, even if we have to mark her and make her ours forever”
“No, you mutt, we will not forcefully mark her that’s not how we treat women and specially not her”
“We can’t let her leave us, it’s the only way”
He is not just a wolf, he is an alpha wolf and can’t always rein in his animalistic instincts or reactions so I have to warn him.
“I swear to the goddess Rex if you harm her in any way I will-”
He cuts me off before I finish my threat
“I would never harm mate, I just need her near” Rex says as we come out of the woods.
I smell her scent, she is near, I start searching for her and I see her standing with Sophia, she seems okay.
Sophia tells her something then she relaxes.
“Go to mate” Rex growls at me, this asshole is giving me a headache.
I can’t go to her, not now in front of the pack or after the words we exchanged before the attack; it doesn’t matter anyways as I see her and Sophia go inside.
She must be showing Alexandria her room, Rex keeps growling so I cut him off entirely ... silence, what a bless.
I take a quick shower and head to my office to meet with Dean and Dylan.
We need to get to the bottom of this unusual attack before we can get any rest.
I open the door to my office and I see they are already there waiting for me, dean on the couch to the right from my desk while Dylan and Sophia are sitting on the chairs in front of it.
“Hey Sophia, how is Alexandria? Is she settled in her room?” I ask.
“Yes Derek, she is fine and resting” she answers back.
“So what is it? You don’t usually attend these meetings” I ask confused.
“It’s probably nothing but… uh…” what’s wrong with her, Sophia is never short for words.
“Spit it out gamma” I command, getting annoyed.
“It’s just; Alexandria seems to have some information that might help understand this attack”.
“What do you mean?”I ask raising an eyebrow.
“You know she does the same thing with her eyebrows?” Sophia says smiling, I smile too, hell even grumpy Rex gives a wolfish grin but I mask it fast and frown my eyebrows telling her to get to the point, she chuckles for some reason then clears her throat and continue.
“when we saw the hunters being lead to the cells I asked myself out loud why would hunters be working with rogues and she said they are not , they are something called subs, But before she could explain we were cut off and when we reached her room she seemed too tired to talk so I thought I would ask her later but honestly I can’t get it out of my mind, I think it’s important information that you need to know” Sophia finishes and I believe she is right.
This is an important piece of information and it only adds to the mystery that is my mate.
“Thanks Sof, you are right, as soon as she wakes up we should know what she meant, maybe it will answer our questions about this attack”.
As soon as I finish my sentence there is a knock on the door and her sweet scent hits me. “Come in Alexandria”.
Alexandria POV
From the moment Sophia left I feel restless, I tried to rest but I couldn’t, I toss and turn till I’m settled on my back staring at the ceiling.
I have to tell them what I know, it might help…and maybe this will be the answer to my problem, I turn to my side to stare now at the white wall with grey trims like the rest of the room, it was a nice room really with en-suite bathroom, closet and two tall windows one on each side of the light gray bed.
Maybe tomorrow, let’s not ruin things yet? …Who am I kidding… it’s no use delaying it.
I get up, take my bag that Sophia brought after Derek dragged me to the woods and head to Derek’s office but as I step out of the room I realize that I don’t know where that is, I get lost a bit in this huge house… more like a mansion till I find his doors and I take a deep breath “here goes nothing” I tell myself as I knock on the door.
“Come in Alexandria” Derek says and I enter the room to find Derek, Dean and Dylan along with Sophia.
“Hey Alex, how are you doing now?” Dean asks.
“Don’t call me that” I tell Dean.
“Don’t call you what?” Dean asks confused.
“She doesn’t like nicknames” Sophia informs him.
“Is that so? You don’t like to be called by a nickname but you like giving them?” Dean asks annoyed.
“That’s right Kenny” I say smirking and gets a laugh from Derek while Dylan and Sophia look at us totally missing our inside joke.
“What about Lex” Dylan chips in with the freaking nicknames now.
“Still no” I answer back.
“Lexi then?” Dean trying his luck.
“That’s even worse” I tell him.
“Ria” Derek simply says and I actually don’t hate it, no I actually like it.
“No one called me that before” I say and he smiles, he has a beautiful smile which makes me smile back with a little blush.
I clear my throat and remember why I was here in the first place.
“I couldn’t sleep, I think I can help... considering the attack” I inform them.
“Yes, Sophia mentioned something you told her about subs?” Derek says gesturing for me to sit down which I decline.
“It’s okay I prefer to stand” I need to get this over with.
“I think you have a traitor in your pack or someone is targeting you, this was obviously not a random attack, these kind of hunters aren’t good enough to find a pack like yours and the crimson river isn’t the kind of pack that someone just stumbles upon... and for rogues to actually dare attack someone with your reputation… they for sure had help” I finish and Derek sits straight in his chair looking at me quizzically but doesn’t say a thing.
“You seem to know a lot about our pack?” Dean is the one to speak.
“Well, you know I already have knowledge of your kind, I was overwhelmed with everything at first that I didn’t put it together… but you are kinda famous alpha Derek stronghold” I say looking at him and he has smug smile on his face that he tries to hide but I caught it and he knows I did.
He clears his throat and asks me “so what do you mean by these kind of hunters? How many kinds do you know of?” he asks me suspiciously.
“Well, there are four kinds of hunters” I start but get cut off by a surprised Dylan.
“Four? We only know two, humans and extra strong humans who are believed to be working with witches to magically give them strength” Dylan says.
“well that’s not interlay true, let me explain... the first kind are the subs, they are humans but amateurs, they kill any supernatural with no code or reason except the fact that they are a supernatural, basically serial killers, They work alone because they are looked down at by the rest of the hunter’s community, but not enough to stop them… the second kind are the humans who are actually professionals and follow a code, most of them are born and raised into the life and they usually assist the pure hunters or what some call them, the true hunters … then there are the shunned, they are hunters born into the life or from the pure bloods, but show some supernatural abilities when they come of age, like the ability to use magic and other things, it differs from one to another…they are naturally shunned either from fear that they might turn against them or just because they become what they are supposed to hunt and they are shunned by the supernatural obviously because they were hunters first … it’s sad really, to be shunned and forsaken by your own people and left alone in the world just because you are different ” I tail off feeling bad for the shunned.
“What about the pure or true hunters?” Dean asks this time while Derek remains quiet studying my every word.
“Oh yes, the pure… they are like the royals of the hunters, they basically rule the community and set the code… they are humans but different. There are only few families left ,they are strong but the gene mainly passes only to males so they are in fear of future extinct as the gene dilutes when they have kids with none pure , they are born with abilities but not like the shunned... it’s quite the opposite, they call it hunter’s abilities".
"And abilities are those?" Sophia asks while Derek is still silent.
"They sense supernatural beings and any kind of bane that affects the supernatural doesn’t affect the pure ones in any way or dosage; they can also resist magic of all kinds... some of the strongest can actually mind-link with other purebloods like your kind do. They are stronger and faster than humans, almost as strong and fast as you, they heal fast but not like you, they still get sick and diseased like humans, they also have the same lifespan” I finish my hunter's crash course and I’m asked the question I’ve been waiting for.
“And how is it you know all that?” Derek asks, looking straight into my eyes as if he already knows the answer.
I straighten my back and cross my arms looking back at him “Because I am one, a hunter… a pure hunter”.
