CHAPTER 3

636 Words
Lisa's POV The files on my table pilled up and work became really tedious. Alec has been cold and I'm used to it anyway. Ever since the evening at the bar, I tried to avoid him completely but it was impossible as I was his personal secretary. The atmosphere because tesnse and awkward. I rolled back in my seat. "He's just a spoiled Mama's boy and I don't care about him", I scoffed and turned in my seat. The door opened and Mac's head popped in. I was getting used to seeing him around at odd working hours. He was the CEO's friend after all. His face lit up on seeing me seated and he waved hello. I waved back and the head disappeared. Alec was in the next room. I could hear him clicking away at his desktop and I imagined him working tirelessly, completely engaged in his work. His telephone rang out loud and consistently. He refused to pick up and the noise was breaking my concentration. "Urrgh, I hate him.", I said as I cringed from the incident at the bar. Mac walked in back into the office with three cups containing dark coffee and one latte. "The latte for the lady!", he said with a smile spreading across his face. Alec raised his head from his desktop and stared with a blank expression. "What's up with you?", Mac asked in a very cheerful voice. "I've got coffee for you." I looked over at Alec and our eyes met. I looked away immediately. I was still embarrassed about the Cafe. I hurriedly sipped my drink and went back to my desk. Alec's POV My cellphone rang out loud, vibrating. I peered at the screen and discovered it was my father. I sighed and decided to let it ring. I was getting tired of listening to the same string of words from him all day, everyday. As if it wasn't enough, he called the office. I picked up this time and grew silent when I heard his voice. "My son, what are your plans?", the shrill voice sounded over the phone. "Father, I am really sorry to disappoint you over this matter. I am busy at the moment and the workload is getting too much.", I replied with a hint of plea in my voice. I stared at the door and wished it would all end. "You're not getting any younger, you know. You need a woman by your side to take care of you in your old days and beat you children. I want you to get over Diana and move on with your life. Alec, she's not the only woman on Earth for God's sake." "No woman would ever be like Diana", I replied softly. The door creaked open and Lisa walked in with a pile of files for me to approve. "I have to run, Father", I said as I ended the call and looked up to face her squarely. She had been trying to avoid me since the night at the bar. An apology would do her no good, I reasoned and I decided against it. My presence was intimidating enough and she couldn't look me in the face. She hurriedly dropped the files and made a dash for the door. "Stop!", I said in a clear voice and walked to where she stood. She shook slightly and brushed hair away from her face. Her eyes were as large as saucers and her face was pale from fear. I touched her shoulder in an attempt to calm her down. She stiffened and looked down at her shoes. I lifted her face and looked at her lips. They were pink and lush. I felt a rush in my blood and kissed her. She was shocked and my actions shocked me too.
