Mila stood there, not sure if she should disappear or stay there. She felt stupid listening to two of them talking something in Italian and it made her feel even more uncomfortable when they mentioned her name. Luca threw an angry gaze at her and it seemed like Maria was criticizing him.
Mila swallowed the dumpling and turned around to leave the kitchen when Maria called her name.
"Mila, wait please."
She stopped and turned around just to see that two of them were now alone. She sighed with relief and gave a wide smile to Maria accepting her hug.
"It is so nice to have you back here again."
When Maria moved back from her, she leaned her palm on Mila's cheek, nodding while smiling at her.
" I am glad I came back as well."
Mila opened her mouth, to ask her about Mr Luca but she prevented her by talking first.
"You can go now to your room, take some rest. I am taking it from here. I will see you by dinner."
Mila wanted to stay there with her but the look she gave her was full of good intentions and when she also remembered Maria's words to keep away from Mr Luca, she turned around and walked to her room, closing herself inside by time for dinner.
Maria was serving the dinner when Luca walked into the kitchen. He approached her and placed his arm over her shoulders, placing a kiss on her forehead.
"Aren't you supposed to be resting now? You got your help now."
Maria placed the last dish on the table and turned around to look at the man that she was considering as her own son and, no matter how much she loves him, she is going to do everything she can to keep him away from that innocent girl.
"Luca, you know I don't like when someone interferes in my bussines. Mind your own and go get some rest. I am going to bring you your dinner."
He shook his head and headed outside from the kitchen.
"I want her to bring me my dinner and if she doesn't she can pack her stuff and disappear from my house."
Maria sighed heavily, sending him away with a look. She was the only person that could talk to him freely and the only person Luca respected, but she knew if she didn't send Mila to his room he was going to fire her for sure. She sighed heavily one more time and headed to Mila's room.
Mila was sitting on the small balcony of her room when she heard the knocking on the door. She stood up and went to open them. When she saw Maria, she smiled at her, feeling relief about seeing her.
"Come on, the dinner is ready."
Mila followed her feeling really hungry and when she saw that two of them were going to be eating alone she felt huge relief, but before she took a seat Maria stopped her.
"Mila, you have to do something before we start with the dinner."
She looked at Maria expecting anything else and not what she asked her to do. As she was too polite to say no, she took the tray with the dinner and nodded, giving her a nervous smile.
Before she headed to Luca's room, Maria gave an encouraging smile. It made her feel a bit better, but she was still nervous when she stopped in front of his room, which was two doors from her room, and knocked on the door waiting for some kind of permission to come in.
After a few long seconds, she heard his voice calling in. She opened the door and walked in without even looking at him, but when she stopped in front of the big bed she lifted her head to look at him. Her cheeks went deep red when she saw him lying on the bed in just his boxers, completely undisturbed by her presence. She swallowed the dumpling and spoke.
"Maria told me you wanted to have your dinner in your room. Where can I leave the tray?"
He stood up and walked past her and took a seat by the desk in the other corner of his room.
"You can leave it here."
Mila approached the desk feeling dizzy and placed the tray as close as she could and turned around to leave, but before she managed to open the door and leave he stopped her.
"Mila?"
She turned around and looked at him. He was still sitting at the desk watching her carefully, as if he was studying her. She still couldn't believe how gorgeous and handsome he was, but at the same time she was so terrified of him.
"Mila, that is your name, right?"
She tried to look less nervous when she nodded.
"Come and sit, have dinner with me."
For a moment she thought that she heard him wrong.
"Excuse me?"
He raised his brows and pointed at the chair across. Last thing she wanted was to spend time alone with that man, but she moved and took a seat on the chair across from him. He took one of the plates and placed it in front of her, handing her the fork. She took it from him, avoiding his gaze.
Luca looked at her carefully before he talked to her.
"Talk to me about your family."
When she lifted her head and looked at him the pain in her eyes was so obvious that for a moment he regretted the question he asked her.
