When things went downhill

With the tray, Rena visited one of the old patients, Mrs Elena. Mrs Elena sat on her bed staring at the wall and humming songs to herself. Rena knocked on her door softly. “Hope you are getting paid for helping,” Elena said as soon as her eyes met hers. “I don’t need money. I love helping,” Rena smiled, giving her the meal. “Lies,” Elena laughed. “All lies! We all know you act like a saint. Every lady needs money of her own! Get that bag my girl!” Rena nodded innocently. The lady’s voice was getting loud and she couldn’t handle it. “I met a nurse today. She was acting so strange,” Rena admitted. “All of them act strange. They probably hate their jobs,” Mrs Elena laughed it off. Rena shrugged her shoulders. “You are right. They work long shifts a lot, so I understand. Why don't you eat now so that you can get better.” Mrs Elena scoffed. “You know I won’t get better. My brain isn’t alright. If I get out, I don't know what I will do. Let me stay here in peace,” Rena smacked her lips. “Do not say that.” “I am only being honest with myself. I am not a good person. I am not like you,” Mrs Elena laughed and took a spoonful of her food. “Disgusting.” She hissed, but ate another spoonful anyway. Rena felt bad for her. Mashed onions with potatoes and no spice. “I heard you are leaving this week,” Elena said. “Dr Ferdinand helped me with a plea,” Rena boasted. “O…that doctor. He is a good man. You are lucky he was assigned to you,” Elena nodded. “Yes, I am,” Rena smiled. “I don’t know how he is able to cope though. There are rumors saying he can’t get a woman pregnant. I wonder if that is true. He is too hot for that thing not to be functioning” Mrs Elena gestured to the structure of a rod. Rena giggled. “Well, that’s unfortunate of him. Too bad.” “Yeah it is. He hasn’t been in a relationship for 5 years. I guess his impotence made him avoid relationships at all cost. Almost every one here wants him. Even the ones that stink like sewer dump,” Elena laughed. Rena couldn't deny she was funny. “Are you part of these secret admirers?” Rena asked with a crafty tone, as she leaned closer to her. . “Maybe, but I might stab him in his sleep if we spend a night together,” Elena laughed. “You keep joking about death,” Rena's smile vanished. “There was a reason I was kept here. I am truly unpredictable and cruel,” Elena's voice had no emotions in it. There was silence for a while, before Rena broke the silence. “Did you ever wish you were different?” She asked. “Everyday, I pray for a normal life. If only miracles happen,” the lady admitted. “Miracles do happen,” “Well, get out this weekend, and I will believe you,” Elena said with a wide smile. “I will definitely get out this weekend. Nothing is stopping me,” Rena assured her. “And if I do leave this weekend, start believing in miracles again.” “I promise,” Mrs Elena said. Rena offered her the rest of her medications and some water. Elena took them on a go. “I will leave you to eat now,” Rena said with a smile. “Ask them to offer you money for this job!” Elena’s voice screamed behind her as she walked out. “Yes ma!” Rena screamed before shutting the door. Her eyes went to the CCTV camera which lit green as it gazed at her. Its robotic movements as it followed her motions felt funny to her. Technology huh! She smiled at it and waved before wiping the sweat off her forehead. O! Well! There goes her task. The night went by. She slowly felt super dizzy, laid on her bed hoping to wake up early. She barely noticed how long she slept. The sound of muffling noises and screams, forced her eyes open immediately. She looked up and caught sight of some nurses and doctors staring at her in shock. Doctor Ferdinand stood before them, staring in awe as if he'd seen a ghost. “What’s wrong?” Rena asked, confused. She stood up and noticed something on her hands. Her face went pale. Blood?!
