Rena’s body went cold. She screamed as loud as she could as her body trembled in shock.
She gazed around her. There was a blood stained knife on her bed and a lot on her hospital garment. Her scream got even louder now. The nurses were still in disbelief, while no one could speak. In no time, she was dragged out and forced towards the hall.
“Wait! Stop! I didn't do anything! I swear!” she tried defending herself.
Dr Ferdinand couldn’t say anything. His face was rather disappointed, with guilt overshadowing its friendly look.
“I didn’t do anything,” she said to him. He gave no reaction.
Her sins were getting numerous now. She was forced into an office with some police men and hospital manager who were already in the middle of a heated discussion.
“I knew she was a serious case. We should have moved her to a stricter psychiatric hospital, rather than manage her. She is a freaking psychopath!” the manager roared at his assistant's face. Then his eyes met hers. “You have serious issues girl! 21, but you’re already on a murder streak!”
“I didn't do anything,” Rena fell on her knees.
“O! You keep quiet, devil,” the manager had no patience for her.
“We need to do something about this girl. I don’t think this is a psychological matter. She might really be a criminal,” the assistant manager suggested.
Everyone agreed with a nod.
“The court insisted we leave her in an advanced psychiatric hospital. Possibly solitary confinement,” the manager explained.
“That’s not enough. This lady is normal. She is just hungry for blood,” his assistant didn’t agree.
“Sorry…sorry,” Dr Ferdinand said, walking in, holding a few documents. “ There is a misunderstanding here. Please let’s not make irrational decisions.
They all stared at him.
“Rena has been set up. Because come to think of it, her cases aren’t adding up. If we hear her out, we will understand what is going on.”
A smile came on Rena’s lips immediately.
“Yes…yes…,”
“Enough, Rena! No one asked you,” the manager lashed at her. Then his gaze went to Dr Ferdinand. “There is nothing to hear, Ferdinand,” the manager shook his head. “I appreciate your empathy, but Rena is a murderer. She was the last person to visit Mrs Elena this evening.”
The name Elena sent Rena chills.
“What? Mrs Elena? What happened to Mrs Elena?” she questioned.
The assistant manager eyed her in anger. Her hands clasped as she turned to the others.
“Here she goes, acting like she doesn’t know. Professional criminal,” the assistant manager hissed.
“Please, let us hear her side of the story,” Dr Ferdinand pleaded with a stubborn look.
The police turned to Dr Ferdinand.
“If you keep defending her, you might lose your license, Dr Ferdinand. You’re still struggling with promotions. Remember that. Your supervisor won’t be happy,” the police threatened.
“I have every right to speak,” Ferdinand got mad.
“And I have every right to lay a complaint against you right now,” the manager snapped.
“Not falsefully because I can sue you for defamation,” Dr Ferdinand argued.
“O! Please, will you guys stop? Someone was killed here,” the assistant manager got irritated.
Rena was bewildered.
“Is Mrs Elena really dead? Please tell me what happened. What has happened to Mrs Elena?” she was in tears now.
“Yes, Rena,” Dr Ferdinand nodded. “Mrs Elena was killed in her room today. It turns out someone delivered her food, killed her and went with the crime weapon. It wasn't self-harm.”
Rena couldn’t believe it.
“No…no! It’s not possible. I saw her! I swear, I didn't do it. Check the CCTV camera. I left her her meal. There was no knife, nothing. How the hell would I harm her? I remember looking at the CCTV camera. It filmed everything. Why the hell will I harm her? She is the sweetest person I know.” Rena's voice choked in tears.
“Relax, Rena. Let me handle this,” Dr Ferdinand assured her, before turning to the police.
“Was the CCTV footage checked?” he asked.
“Unfortunately the CCTV was down all afternoon and evening. We couldn't catch anything,” The manager explained.
Rena was puzzled.
“No it wasn’t! I saw it. It blinked green. I am sure it was active at that time,” Rena defended herself.
They gave her a crazy look.
“No it wasn't. You saw things. You are crazy.”
