Please believe me

“I am not crazy!” she yelled. “And why exactly would you look at the CCTV camera if you weren’t suspicious? What were you trying to hide?” the assistant manager asked. “I just looked! I wasn’t thinking much about it! Why is everything held against me now?!” Rena screamed in anger. “Because psychopaths always watch their every move,” the manager smirked. “They appear innocent and make us believe what they want us to believe.” “I am not a murderer!” Rena screamed. Dr Ferdinand tapped her shoulder, gesturing to her to calm down. “Look, the fact that the CCTV footage was down is already suspicious enough. Why will it suddenly stop working when a murder is about to take place? Rena couldn’t have done that!” “Dr Ferdinand, the CCTV goes off sometimes. It's not a big deal. Just that this time, Rena might be rather fortunate or unfortunate. There is no evidence except the knife in her hands and the blood,” the manager said to Dr Ferdinand. “It wasn’t off. You are all lying! I saw it track my movements! Why are you all lying?!” Rena screamed. “Mrs Rena, keep quiet this instant!” the police officer ordered. “No! I am done with this! I won’t keep quiet anymore! Why don’t you ask the nurse who gave me the tray of food?” Rena asked. “She would swear that she gave me the tray with no knife in it.” Doctor Ferdinand agreed with a nod “Yes yes! Smart one, Rena. Let us speak to everyone she spoke to yesterday. Someone must have seen something.” The manager gazed at him for a while and nodded. While he sent for the nurses on duty at the block that day, he received a call. His head nodded a couple of times before his face turned to Rena. “You will be transferred to Soco Psychiatric tonight. They will make sure you are under strict surveillance and serve your full 10 years with no pity,” the manager said to her. “No…I didn't do anything!” Rena cried. Her eyes gazed at Dr Ferdinand. “Please help me speak to them. I want to see my kids again. I didn't do anything.” “Be patient. I have told you I will handle this. You need to stay calm,” the doctor said with an assuring tone. Her tear stricken face nodded, but her whole body felt more and more agitated. The nurses were invited and the manager questioned them one after the other. None of them agreed to putting a knife in the tray nor handing Rena one. Rena’s eyes roamed at the nurses as her heart raced even faster. What the hell was this now? “She is not here,” Rena said, grabbing the doctor’s arm. “The nurse who gave me the tray isn’t here.” “What?!” the doctor was confused. Unfortunately, the manager already heard them. “How many more stories will you coin in your favor? Who else would be on duty at that time? Only those authorized can work on this block!” the manager informed her. “I swear to you, a nurse handed me the tray and directed me to Elena with the medications. She even told me I should be a nurse when I am out of here," Rena defended herself. “What’s the nurse’s name? Have you met her before?” the police asked. Then her mind went blank. “Rena…” the manager gave her an angry stare. Her lips couldn't move. O! Goodness! How could she have ignored the nurse’s name?
