ALIONA'S POV
‘Toughen up, Aliona. Don't spill a drop of tear in front of him,’ Mystic my wolf sneered. She wasn't having any of his excesses. Her veins simmered with irritation at the condescending way he regarded us.
He added. “Whatever she demands from you, do it without questions. You hear me,” Zane's voice was steady, but his tone dripped with sheer hatred.
I was his mate! How couldn't he acknowledge the bond between us? How could the love in his eyes fall off in a few seconds.
There was only one answer to the question— they never felt a tinge of emotion from me.
My body trembled violently with an urgent need to scream out my lungs till I lost my throat. Zane grabbed my hands, “Look how skinny your hands are, I'm sure Sophia would put it in good use,” He tipped his head sideways, “Is that right, baby?”
She giggled in response. Then, Sophia clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth. “You know I'd do just that darling,”
He scoffed, pulled her closer to him so their bodies were pressed against each other. Zane grazed his lips over hers, and Mystic groaned in despair.
When he pulled away from her, he turned to face me. His eyes glistened with a sinister look. He knew what he was doing.
Since the mate bond between us wasn't fully severed, I could feel the sting of the betrayal my mates tossed in my face. Each sensual touch they had with another female affected me.
The effect was sharp, painful. The tinge of betrayal from his action hit my chest like a ton of bricks. “Let's go to the room to finish this off,” His voice dripped with an intense desire.
Sophia giggled again, this time holding my gaze. “Baby, why don't you go and run the bath, I'll be with you three shortly,” Sophia crashed her lips against his again, while his hands were firmly snaked around her waist.
A playful growl rattled his chest. “That sounds like something I want to go,” He said, and walked away without sparing me another glance.
This was worse than being rejected. I watched one of my mates frolicking with another female right in front of me, like I was invisible.
Sophia tuts. “See dearest orphan, you're nothing to your so-called boyfriends,” She began, shrugging her shoulders. “All you do is, cheer them from the sidelines while you keep the rink clean, ugh so embarrassing,”
Oh God!
Maya chipped, “She really did think the most handsome high-schoolers in the Mooncrest pack. Are you kidding me right now?” She spat.
“Enough!” Aunt Emma's voice boomed from behind me.
The air was heavy with an unhealthy amount of tension.
Sophia's face crumpled into a frown. “And what do you think you're doing here poor slave?” She said in a retort.
The sound of approaching footsteps reached my ears, and in a few minutes, Aunt Emma was standing beside me. She grabbed my hands, and squeezed them softly.
When I tipped my head sideways to face her, my heart dropped to the pit of my stomach. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears.
‘It’s okay. I'm here now,’ She managed a smile across her lips.
The ache in my chest intensified. Warmth washed through my insides in that second.
Ah! There goes a lousy tear. Before I could wipe it off, Aunt Emma reached for it, and dabbed it with the back of her hand, whilst still keeping her smile and holding her tears from falling.
She's heard the news.
Aunt Emma turned to face Sophia. “I've had enough of you talking down on Aliona like she's a nobody—”
Sophia hissed, cutting her off. “Oh you're right. She is a nobody,” She said each word with more resentment than the former.
“What's that your name again, Emma!” She paused, as she scoffed. “The next time you try to pull off this stunt, I'll make sure my father deducts your wage. Now get out of my sight, the both of you,”
“Let's go Aunt Emma,” My voice was unsteady. She held me tightly as we walked away.
The instant we stepped into the house, I collapsed to the ground, and cried my lungs out, till I gasped for air.
It was tears borne from my expectation. The butterflies they made me feel in secret. It was dashed in a mocking way.
Mystic twirled inside of me. ‘Get yourself together Aliona. Stop crying for those losers, they're not worth your tears,’ Her voice dripped with pain.
I knew I shouldn't spill a tear on people who intentionally made me sick to my stomach. But I couldn't help it.
Aunt Emma held me so tightly. “Oh honey, it's okay to cry. It's okay…” She managed to speak. “You'll be just fine. This pain won't last for long…”
My vision blurred with tears. Mystic was torn between anger, and an urgent need to calm my ravaging emotions. And I was too devastated, too agitated to hold myself together.
I was a weakling. I couldn't even hold back my tears in front of my bully.
“Aunt Emma, I loved them with all my heart,” I said between sobs.
She chuckled dryly. Her eyes, sad. “I know baby,” Aunt Emma paused, and added when I stared at her. She nodded, “Yes, I know you've been in a relationship with them. You were happy, I didn't want to jeopardize that,”
I went into another round of tears. Aunt Emma continued, “I saw you bask in the love you had for them,” She began. “Even when you rush to go out in the morning so you ,”
Mystic reared her head. ‘I hate those jerks…’ She seethed. I bawled my eyes out, till my system felt like it was going to collapse.
My head was spinning, rapidly. I clutched it tight.
Aunt Emma led me to my room, and tucked me in bed. She squeezed my hands softly, “Aliona, I want you to know, success is the best revenge for anything… even some stupid obnoxious mates,” The woman pulled me into a hug, and kissed my forehead. “You and your wolf will do just great,”
Mystic reared her head. ‘We will, Aunt Emma,’
