ZANE'S POV
It was all an act.
My brothers and I wanted nothing to do with her in the first place. But Aliona was too blinded by fleeting emotions to see through our actions.
And worse of all, the Moon goddess decided to punish us, by mating us with her. A low class orphaned Omega!
Storm, my wolf stirred inside me. ‘That’s our fated mate Zane. What the hell are you doing?’ He asked, his tone laced with impatience.
Why on earth would the Moon goddess mate I and my brother to this nerd? Even though she looked nothing like her usual clumsy self. Her curly fringes, and freckles hidden behind a pair of glasses, were sleek.
I hated to admit it, but her features were more enhanced in this minute. Never did I think I'd stand a clumsy nerd, until now…
My muscles cramped as my insides boiled with a sheer desire to mark her. Her intoxicating scent hit my nose, and spread all over my body.
I shoved it aside. It was the effect of the lousy mate bond between us.
I—we still wouldn't claim Aliona. I didn't need to ask my brothers to know they were on the same page with me.
I stared down at her, as an exasperated sigh escaped from the corner of my lips. “Aliona, how on earth do you think we'll make a clumsy Omega nerd our Luna, huh?” I mocked. “Oh common! you're supposed to be the most intelligent student in school. Have you ever thought about why we kept you a secret?”
The hall was filled with murmurs. Aliona's face blanched. But I didn't care. I'd thought I and my brothers would be mated to someone more deserving. Someone in our rank.
Someone like her. My gaze rested on Sophia Clark, whose face glowed with anger. Captain of the school's cheerleading team, and daughter of one the seasoned Gamma warrior was my definition of a perfect mate.
Not a common Omega. What did Aliona know about the first things of being a Luna?
Irritation fought with desire that flooded through my veins. My eyes darted to my parents who watched with keen interest.
They were indifferent about Aliona. So, it wouldn't be a tussle to reject her, right here in the presence of the entire pack.
“I, Zane Faron of Mooncrest pack, re—”
Alpha Faron, my father cut me off before I could finish my statement. “Zane!”
My gaze hovered over Aliona's pale face for the briefest second, before I shifted my gaze to meet my father. “You three can't reject your mate,”
A growl ripped through the tensed air from behind me. Footsteps followed, and in a split second, Noah was standing beside me.
“Father, what are you talking about?” He asked.
Silence rented the air in the grand hall.
Father let out a deep sigh. “Boys, if you reject the mate bond you share with your fated mate, you would never be able to become Alphas of Moonstone,” He declared, his tone heavy with tension.
What!
Logan growled. “Since when did our mate bond become tied to be Alphas?”
My eyes darted to Aliona again. She shuddered, as her eyes shone with unshed tears.
Beta Alexander Wilson, sighed. “Alphas, your father is right. It's either you claim her, or you three give up rights to the throne,”
My jaw clenched. “But we don't want her! We want someone else,” I exchanged glances with my brothers. “We want to mark Sophia, as our fated mate,”
Storm twirled with resentment. ‘Not in this life. What the hell has come over you?’ Storm had his reservations about Sophia. He hated to interact with her wolf even during training.
I pushed him to the back of my mind. I had better things to attend to.
“We can't claim an Omega,”
Christopher, the lousy son of Beta Wilson chuckled from the crowd. “That leaves you no choice but to give up the Alpha position,” His tone was steady, yet I could taste the subtle mockery in it.
That jerk.
He sighed, as he splayed his hands over his chest. “If you ask me Alphas, I'd say—”
Logan's throat rattled with a growl. “Shut your pit Christopher, and focus on getting your shots at the rink,” Logan fired at him.
Christopher raised his hands in mock surrender, and didn't utter another word.
“Exactly what I thought,” Logan chipped.
I edged closer to Aliona, and tugged at her fringes, and she flinched. I cringed with displeasure. “My brothers and I never loved you, and we'll never claim you as our mate!” I spat, and with that, I stormed out of the hall.
I went straight to my room, and collapsed on one of the couches. Rejecting my mate was one thing, but ignoring the mate bond? That was a whole different ballgame of torture entirely.
Storm grinded his fangs, fighting to surface and claim his mate. He was fierce, it took a lot of willpower to fight for dominance.
Her scent still lingered in the air around me, stirring my insides with a dire need.
The door flung open, and Logan walked in, closely followed by Noah.
“We shouldn't have done that,” Logan was the first to speak.
I arched questioning brows at him. “Noah, what are you on about?” I tried to keep my tone casual.
He didn't say a word.
I pushed myself from the couch, and covered the distance between us. From the way his face paled, I could tell his wolf was uneasy.
This was torture. But I'd rather walk through hell that claims an Omega!
I sighed. “Hmm. Logan, I've always known you've had an eye for Aliona. You loved her when we were much younger—”
Logan cut in. “That's not true. I loathe her as much as you both do,” His voice trembled slightly.
My throat rumbled with a slight chuckle. “Then, man up and stop acting like a bloody weakling,” My voice was cold.
“What do you suggest we do?” He quizzed.
I remained silent for a bit, as I tried to find the right words. A smirk plastered the top of my lips, “Leave that to me,” I said. “We have another match against the Glaciers. We should prepare for that, and stop thinking about some Omega that doesn't matter,”
A knock sounded on the door. “Come in,” I said, after a few seconds.
Sophia strutted into my suite, her eyes blazing with an unfamiliar emotion. “Zane, Noah…” Her voice trailed off. “Logan…”
Another round of silence, deafening silence rented the air.
“Don't tell me you're going to claim that b***h, over me, over being Alphas of our pack,” She spat.
I shook my head. “Not when we're in love with someone else,” I said, holding her gaze.
Her face flushed. Sophia covered the distance between us. “You should've let me deal with that b***h, when I had the chance,”
Logan cleared his throat, “That wouldn't be necessary. Zane has everything planned out,”
For some reason, my guts told me Logan was protecting Aliona in a subtle manner. I was going to make him see reasons.
The she-wolf shifted her gaze back to me. I nodded. “Sophia, you'll be our Luna and no one else,” I assured her.
She pushed her head, and crashed her lips against mine in a passionate kiss. “Now, that's more like it,” Sophia began, “I'm the perfect person to be your Luna and you know it,”
Noah rounded us, and wrapped his hands around her waist, earning him a moan. He kissed her shoulders. “Yes baby, you are fit to be Mooncrest Luna, and no one else,”
Sophia giggled. “Just what I thought,”
Maybe Aliona was too clumsy to see, or she just didn't want to pay attention. Sophia was our dream girl. It was obvious from the way we acted towards her.
The way we took sides with her even when she was at fault. Like the other day at the rink. Aliona didn't lay a finger on Sophia. Still, I took sides with her.
She was hot, and beautiful. Her long wavy mane that flattered her waist added to her beauty. Don't get me started about her charisma at the rink.
Sophia would be our Luna. As for Aliona, she was only a means to an end. Until I figured out how to discard her, and still retain the Alpha position, she was going to be paraded as a Luna.
Storm reared his head again. ‘You’re a bloody jerk, Zane,’ He sneered.
