ONE WISH

ALIONA'S POV “Happy birthday to you, my darling,” Aunt Emma was all smiles, as she lit the candles on my cake. She nudged me with the tip of her chin. “Go on honey, make a wish,” I sighed, as I clasped my hand and clamped my eyes shut. One. Two. Three. My eyes pried open to meet Aunt Emma bright eyes. “What'd you wish for?” She asked, her voice laced with curiosity. I let out a good-natured groan. “Oh Aunt Emma. It's a secret,” She chuckled. “Fine. If you say so. Blow out your candles,” The middle-aged woman said, caving in. I blew out the candles. Suddenly, a groan cut escaped my lips, as a sharp pain spiralled at the base of my skull. Aunt Emma stared at me, her eyes filled with curiosity. “Are you okay, Aliona?” I nodded. “Yes— Argh!” I let out another groan, as the pain intensified. I bit hard on my lower lips, till the coppery taste of blood filled my mouth. “Aliona, you're shifting…” Aunt Emma declared. I shifted my gaze to face her, and she nodded, squeezing my hands gently. “Hold on for a few minutes, the pain would be over soon,” Another loud groan, this time thicker than the first, pierced through the air. My entire body writhed with severe pain. This was nothing like I'd expected. I've always heard about the pain of shifting. Every young pup turning eighteen looked forward to it. But this…this one was excruciating, I feared my insides were going to tear apart. My bones snapped. “My goodness!” I screamed, as tears pooled at the corner of my eyes. “Aunt Emma…” My voice was strained with torture. She nodded. Even though she was silent, I could see the words in her eyes. Another bone snapped, and another. In a few seconds, I was in my wolf's form. A white wolf stared back at me from the reflection in the broken mirror. She was magnificent. Nothing like I'd ever seen. She had piercing blue eyes, and a pure white fur without a single blemish. There was only one word for the creature in front of the mirror— perfection. She twirled in front of the mirror, and tipped her head at Aunt Emma who was crying by now. “She's so beautiful…” Aunt Emma purred, as she ran her hands through my wolf's fur. My wolf whimpered, enjoying the moment, before she slowly shifted. I fell to the ground, my body limp from exhaustion. Aunt Emma grabbed a blanket, wrapped it around my body, and carried me to the bed. Then, she pulled me into a hug. “I'm so proud of you, Aliona,” She said, “Your wolf is so strong, and beautiful,” She said. I sniffled. “Thanks Aunt Emma,” I said, “I want you to go for the mating ceremony,” Aunt Emma began. “I know you're exhausted, but today is a special day. You shifted into the most beautiful wolf I've ever seen, and I'm sure she'll pick the scent of your mate,” My blood sang with anticipation at her words. She was right. I was going to find my mates tonight. My lips parted with a wide grin. Finally, I was going to be mated to the triplets. Our love would no longer be a secret. “Let me get your dress,” Aunt Emma said, as she pushed herself from the bed. “I made one for you, specially for this day,” I managed a small smile. It was a tussle settling into having my wolf. My insides felt weird. Like my heart expanded and I was sharing it with the most perfect creature. I made a mental image of what it'll be like to finally be marked by the ones I loved the most. Suddenly, I felt a stir inside of me. My wolf reared her head. ‘I'm Mystic, your wolf being,’ A voice said. It was sleek, yet enchanting. My wolf was communicating to me via a mindlink. It was the best feeling in the entire world. I held my breath. ‘Mystic, I'm Aliona, an Omega in Mooncrest, and your human,’ ‘I know who you are…’ Just then, I whipped my head sideways to the direction of the door, as it flung open. Aunt Emma walked in, holding a dress. “Here you go, wear this…” She said, as she handed it over to me. “I'll be waiting in the living room,” I nodded, and smiled my thanks. “Zane, Noah, and Logan, it's just a few minutes left, and we'll be together,” I muttered under my breath. That was one of my wishes— to be mated to my Alpha triplets. I had a quick shower, and then slipped into my dress. It was beautiful. The knee-length off-shoulder, red lace dress accentuated my physique in the best way. I spun around and let out a sigh. The day was gradually coming together. All that was left was being marked by the Faron brothers. I brushed my hands through my hair, and wore my glasses. I hoped the triplets would like my simple look. “Oh my gosh! You look beautiful!” Aunt Emma sang the minute I stepped out of my room. “I bet you'd be mated to one of the high ranking wolves,” I smiled. I wanted the triplets too. It would be a dream come true. “I have to go now, Aunt Emma,” I said. She nodded. “Yes, darling. I'll be waiting to receive you both,” She said, as she led me out of the house. As I walked to the hall where the mating ceremony was taking place, some she-wolves about my age mocked me. “Ugh! There goes the nerd, she can't keep her personality off for one day,” One she-wolf from school snickered. Her friend giggled. “Her freckles, and glasses sold her out already,” Mystic reared her head, growling under her breath. I pushed her back, and ignored the girls. The second I stepped into the grand hall, a sweet enchanting scent hit my nose, and every ounce of reasoning I had fizzled out. ‘Mates!’ Mystic howled with excitement. “What the hell is this Omega doing here?” Someone said, I blocked out the murmurs, as the scent intensified. I followed the scent to the front of the hall. There they were. My mates. My heart fluttered in my ribcage, as the Faron triplets came to full view. The Moon goddess had granted one of my wishes. They were my fated mates! Now, I wouldn't be a secret anymore. They'd claim me as their mate in front of the entire Mooncrest pack. The Faron triplets were devastatingly handsome. But at this moment, they looked ethereal. Dressed in a three piece custom made suit, with their hair neatly styled, they looked like they'd just been brought straight out of a magazine. I couldn't hold back the excitement that sizzled in my bones. The entire hall fell into a round of silence, if I listened intently, I could pick out a moth breathing. “You three are my mates,” I said, my voice heavy with excitement. Noah's face was clouded in a deep scowl. Logan let out a low growl. And Zane? Zane's face was stoic without expression. I waited for them to come to me. But none of them did. Instead, Zane stepped down from the platform, held my gaze for a brief moment, and said. “Aliona Marcos, did you really think we'd claim you as our mate?” His voice seethed with anger.
