Chapter Seven

1035 Words
There was one thing my dad hated the most, that one thing was called lying. Our Alpha growled at me and I flinched when my back met the hard wood of an oak tree. "What are you hiding?" My dad asked me while pulling my shirt roughly, his eyes glared at me and it was enough to make my head go down in shame. Nobody disrespected my dad and got away with it, most usually were ended up in our cemetery. "Dad, I wasn't hiding anything, I even locked her up," I whined and he bashed my head against the wood for the second time making me wince at his harsh demeanor. For a second thought, he wanted his pack members to know that I was not treated as an exception when disobeying his rules so he made sure the pack members watched my humiliation when he mind-linked me that he knew and threw me from the entrance into the forest with his Alpha powers. "What was that rogue up to?" he hissed when he asked and thought I was going to lie to his face again. My dad, for someone that old, he managed to still look intimidating even when he smiled, his posture was stiff and he wasn't like what he was when back when I was fifteen years old. He definitely changed after his third mate Kacey overpowered his mind about me. Mom, where are you when I need you? I wished for her to come back every day, hoping that the Moon Goddess would grant my wish someday. All that I remembered seemed to unfaze dad because he claimed that he didn't know anyone named Destalia Morgane no matter how hard I tried to convince him, but to no avail. "Tell me, Kaden," my dad used his Alpha tone of voice and I knew I was in deep trouble as my head lowered again in submission, it was a dead end whenever I tried to reason with my dad's stubborn way of thinking. "She claimed that I am her mate and she wouldn't answer me when I interrogated her, at least we have her now," I rambled and I hoped my dad didn't linger on my first few words but this day, luck wasn't my best friend at all. "KADEN JACKSON VINCENT," and I was right, my dad shouted and he didn't seem too pleased about that thought. "Why the hell would you reject your mate like that?" he asked with narrowed eyes making me flinch at his tone. "Dad, I didn't reject her," I spoke too quickly, "I am letting her know that I am not her mate, I don't feel anything towards her," our Alpha looked stunned as he backed away and sprinted off. I sighed and I didn't have the energy to feel confused about my dad's sudden change of emotion so I went back to the house after the gossip spread across the pack. "Honey, you need to eat something," the soothing plea made me sneak a peak in front of the kitchen where Kacey was frustrated as she tried to force a piece of cheese roll into Destalia's mouth but she refused by turning her cheek to the right. "Kaden, you're here," Destalia beamed when she spotted me creeping up on her to scare her but my plan failed since my baby step sister had a sharp eye to everything around her. She ran to me as I crouched down to hold her in my arms and swirled her around when I caught her. She squealed when I threw her in the air and grabbed her in her mini white dress with a smile on my face. "Now, who's going to be a good girl and eat her food?" I teased her with kisses all over her face as she giggled. My eyes averted to the innocent angel in my arms to the displeased woman in front of me with crossed arms and an authoritative stance. She always hated me, it was nothing new. "Can you give me her food?" I asked politely since I didn't want my annoyance towards her to show. I never confided in her and I was glad I didn't. She shoved the plate to my hand rudely and stormed off, I rolled my eyes at her back and went to my room with Destalia in my left arm and her plate with my right arm. "Kay, I don't want to eat," Destalia whimpered and I felt sorry for the girl who had fear written all over her. "Why? what's wrong?" I asked as my eyes checked her body for any signs of bruises on her but found none so I looked into her eyes. "I feel sick," she complained with trembled lips. Her eyes changed to blue again as she screamed and cried when I laid her down on bed, I freaked out so I mind-linked the doctor and my dad. They arrived quickly, my room door flung down to the entrance when dad barged to check on his daughter. I watched as the doctor tried everything to calm my shivering step sister but all I could do was watch Destalia looking up at the ceiling with bright blue eyes as it kept changing to other colors. I thought of one possible cause but I refrained myself thinking it was ridiculous but I had to say it to see if it was true or not. "Hey, Dr. Victoria," I called out our pack doctor and she turned around only to widen her eyes as I felt my Buria mark turn red signalling near danger, "Destalia might have the curse," with that spoken out of my mouth, she validated my worst fears of all just by one look at her fearful face. Destalia would die if the curse wasn't gone, we had to find a solution. My hands trembled too in anxiety and I didn't know if I could heal her curse but it was worth trying. I hoped that the curse wouldn't be transferred to my other step brothers. I looked right up at my mom watching over me and pleaded with my eyes to protect my little step sister.
