As Duncan was eating the lady who mind linked her came back again.
"Hey Duncan,"
"What, are you here to finally tell me where my mother is?" Duncan asked hopefully
"I said I had an idea where she might be, I didn't say I know where exactly". The lady reminded her.
"Then why do I still do what you say if you don't even know where my mother is for sure?" Duncan asked frustratingly. She unknownfuly dropped her eating utensils on the table harshly.
When she realized, she picked them up and whispered a sorry then continued eating.
"Because you want to find you're mother that you'll take any clue at all, even though it would lead you nowhere". The lady answered her.
Duncan kept quiet because it was true. She wanted to find her mother so bad that she'll take anything at all.
"Anyways I want you to investigate those 3 people that left before my timer of 30 seconds expired".
" What, you said if 3 people would leave the hall before 30 seconds you'll let them go, why do you still want me to investigate them? "Duncan asked feeling confused.
" Why would 3 people leave in the middle of a storm? "
" Look, in a storm where is the best place to be. Whether there is also a storm inside, it is way better to be in than out. To make those 3 kids leave in the middle of the storm, they must have had a plan. That's why I want you to investigate them".
" What makes you think I'll do it? " Duncan asked wondering what confidence could the lady ask that made her think she'd listen to ev.erything she says.
"I think so because, after all these years i'm the only one that has gotten even close to giving you something relevant about your mother's case, and I know you'll not want to mess it up". The lady said and left.
It was true. Everyone in Duncan life had told her that her mother was dead. This was the only clue she had come close to finding she was not going to mess it up.
Raine almost never looked away from Duncan the whole night. He watched her as he saw her expressions change from shocked to confused to finally determination.
'What is she thinking?" He wondered.
Through out the whole dinner, her eyes never even glanced at him. He doubted she knew that he was here. Just when he was about to walk up to her, he heard that clinking sound again and he saw his mother about to make an announcement.
"Miss Jones, Mr Alfred Jones's daughter has a surprise for us."
" Please Miss Jones, you can take the floor". Germina said and pointed towards Duncan.
" Be careful out there hon". Alfred told his daughter as she ascended towards the stage.
The moment Duncan feet stepped on the stage that was when she finally saw Raine.
She was shocked
'What was he doing here'. She had no idea that anyone from that school would be here at all.
But she kept a straight face and climbed on the stage without even showing a sign that she had seen him before.
When she got to the middle of the stage, she bowed slowly to all the guests then went forward and started her dance.
She danced beautifully just like her mother and everyone enjoyed it. Just as she reached the ending of the dance, she raised her hands slowly and water started to follow her hands.
She twirled the water in her hands using it in her dance. She twirled the water all around her making it look like she was absorbed by the water. At the end, she made the water to look like a fountain and froze it.
"Pa, pa, pa". Everyone stood up to give her an applause. It was just too beautiful and graceful for anyone to not appreciate.
Duncan smiled, gave another bow and left the stage.
....
"Dad, I'll be going somewhere tomorrow". Duncan informed her father when they arrived back home.
"Where will that be?" He queried
"To the school for magical creatures"
"Why do you want to go there? You said you didn't want to go to school that's why I made you homeschooled"
"I want to go there because of something". Duncan replied pulling off her shoes.
"Does it concern your mother?"
"Yes". She answered then went towards the kitchen to get something to drink.
He thought about what she had just said for a while and decided that he was going to school her there.
"Okay, how about I school you there".
"What?" Duncan screamed and threw up all the water she had been drinking.
"What, you said you want to go there, how about I school you there. It remains a year for you to finally finish school and I want you to make the best of it". Alfred replied seriously.
"But I don't want the special treatment which I will most definitely receive if they find out that I'm your daughter". Duncan replied trying to make him change his mind.
"Look, I don't want you living the rest of your life for your mother, I want you to leave a little girl yourself. I'm going to register you but won't use my name or identity, so no one would be able to decipher". Alfred said as he held her shoulder with one hand.
" Nothing can change your mind? " Duncan asked feeling this was her last hope.
" Absolutely nothing. I love you. Now go get ready"
" But I'm not staying in the boardinghouse ". She said last and left for her room.
" Even if you want to stay, I won't let you, I want you to live but I still want you close to me". Alfred yelled after her.
Duncan smile as she heard her father's last sentence.
He loved her. He was the only one that actually loves her, he and her mother, that's why she just have to get her back.
...
The next day Duncan got up early in the morning and got prepared to go to school. She had been homeschooled almost all her life, though it was by choice, she wanted to have an idea of how it felt to actually go to school.
When she arrived at the school, she was a bit taken back as she saw the school's magnifesent building. It was alot bigger than she had expected.
She thought that since she heard that not much rich children attend the school, the school would be an old crappy and scary looking place. With would be made woods that was as old as time itself. She actually thought it would be an old building that would be threatening to break down at any minute, imagine the surprised when she saw a huge and majestic looking building.
The building still looked like it was as old as time, but it was not old or crappy, it was .... It was... Beautiful.
After taking a long time to admire the large building in front of her, she took a deep breath and proceeded towards the school.
As soon as she got into the school, she started getting weird glances from everyone. They were all whispering to themselves while pointing towards her. She couldn't blame them, she had already terrified a good number of them and she doubted anyone forgot her face.
But she had a plan. She was going to pretend not to know about the welcome back incident if anyone asked her, God she had even changed her name already. If people ask for her name she was going to tell them Aliya.
No matter what happened she was determined not to blow her cover. She was here to investigate the first three people that left the hall that day and nothing more.
Duncan went towards the principal office and collected all her needed papers. The woman kept on looking at her warily. Then she couldn't hold her curiosity and asked
"Who's your father?"
"Excuse me". Duncan replied pretending not to understand what she was saying.
" I asked who's your father? I know this school has a reputation of housing poor children to learn about their powers, but 2 years ago when I became principal everything changed. Now only the poor children that has been here before I became principle that are allowed to continue schooling here, but those that came after where sent back. That's the reason why the rich send their kids to this school now. So if I must ask again, who is your father? "
Duncan was stupified. This woman had just blabbed nonsense with a straight face!
"Ma'am, with all due respect, this school was recommended very highly to my father and he thought that it would be the best place to send me too. His identity shouldn't be an issue".
"So what are you saying, that you're not going to tell me who your father is"
" Yes, I don't think it's necessary "
" What then give you the boldness that I would let you into this great school"
" Because you don't know who my father is you won't be willing to take chances". Duncan replied the strong headed woman.
"Are you powered?". The principal asked wondering what gave her the courage to say all that.
"Who knows". Duncan replied.
" You may leave Aliya ". The principal said after a second of silence.
" Thank you ma'am". Duncan gave her her the most fake smile and left her office.
A girl ran to meet her the moment she saw her out of the principal office. Duncan recognized the girl as she got close to her, she was the third person that left the hall that day.
"A..Are..you that lady Duncan?". The girl starmered.
" Who's Duncan? " Duncan asked feigning innocence
"Wait you're not the lady that came to terriorize us in the welcoming party?" The girl asked again, this time with surprise.
"No, I'm not. I just moved her. I didn't come to the welcoming party because I didn't have time. My name is Aliya"
"What, your not Duncan!". The girl exclaimed confusedly.
" I don't know anyone named Duncan". Duncan firmly stood. If this was how all the student were easily convinced, she would not have a hard time.
