Just Two Friends

It all started with a dare. A dare that I wished I never participated in. My best friend, Amy was visiting us home as she occasionally did. We were busy talking about everything and anything, from our non-existent love lives to our dreams and goals we wanted to achieve before thirty. As we casually chatted, Amy scrolled through t****k and stumbled upon a post about 10 questions to ask your best friend. If you know me and my bestie, we are definitely going to hop onto that best friend trend. She asked, “ Jade, whom did you ever meet once and would love to meet again?” That question got my attention because there was someone I had always wondered if I would meet them again. It was him. Elijah Stormborn. We had met once at a mutual friend’s wedding and we struck up a conversation that I cannot remember a single word we talked about but I definitely remember the prominent cheek bones, the smile and definitely his humour. I like a man who can make me laugh. Unknown to Amy, I had stalked this man on social media and to say that I liked what I saw was an understatement. I could not figure out if he had a girlfriend, was he married or not . At some point, I figured I would just send him a friend request or a follow but my common sense gave me a stern warning not to do it and I complied. Somewhere at the back of my mind I always wondered what was going on with him and his life but I convinced myself that he was just a man I met once and that had nothing to do with my obsession with him. I just had to focus on what was important, my life. “ Earth to Jade!” I was ambushed from my train of thought by Amy shouting at me.. “ let’s hear it. Who is he? “ . I countered, “ what? Who?” “ You have that look.” , Amy accused “Which one?” I asked feigning innocence. “ The one where you are obsessively thinking about someone.” I lifted my hands in surrender, “ okay, okay fine. The person whom I would like to speak with again even though we met once is Elijah Stormborn.” Amy looked at me confused, “ who is he? Is he someone I know? Where does he live? “ I held her hand and said, “ chill babes.. I will explain. He is Mia’s brother. We met at Pat’s wedding and we spoke once and it will be lovely to meet again with him. “ I said as I showed her his profile picture on **. “ The Mia? She has a hot brother and she never told us. What else is she hiding from us.. But wait babes, wasn’t Pat’s wedding like 10 years ago? You mean to tell me you have had a crush on this fine ass man and never told me” “ I don’t have a crush on him” “ Continue lying to yourself. You even have his ** handle and haven’t followed him yet. Let me just do that for you.. and done.’ “ Give me my phone, what did you just do? Oh no.. I will kill you Amy” I shouted as I tripped for my “ I am not going to miss out on the opportunity to have a handsome brother in law just because you are scared.” “ Okay fine. “ The next few minutes were spent talking to Mia asking for his brother’s number, a very embarrassing situation if you ask me . However it wasn’t for her. She was ecstatic about it. I couldn’t not muster the courage to call but I did send him a text message and it was the beginning of a very long ride.
