Destiny's POV
Darkness, darkness so thick spread out all around me. No matter how hard I tried to blink, it didn't help illuminate or shine even the tiniest bit of light in my predicament. Now that I thought about it, it didn't sound so much like a bright idea.
If I hadn't blinked at all, I wouldn't have realized that my eyes were actually open and I was just in some kind of dark room, I hoped. With a tiny spec of fear blooming in my heart, I patted the ground. Apparently, I was sitting upright, and only when a cold seeped into my body through my hand did I realize something; I had not even the faintest idea of where I was.
Panic stroked my insides, and I gulped.
Where was I? Why was it so dark in here and exactly how did I even get here?
I pressed my eyes shut again, hoping the little gesture would help jog up my memory, but it didn't. In fact, the more I tried to remember, the more the little snippets in my mind started to slip out of my grip.
What was I going to do now?
“Hello?” Someone's voice cut through my thoughts. The voice was from a far distance, but I heard it quite well. “Is anybody there?”
“Yes!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. I might not have an idea of where I was, but maybe whoever that was could help me. “Yes, over here!”
The sound of footsteps coming closer reached my ears. I had no expectations whatever when I heard him approaching, but the moment the stranger stopped in front of me, my heart leapt to my throat.
What the–
“There you are.” The stranger spoke up again, in a more distorted voice this time. The fact that his voice was far from clear wasn't what fazed me, it was something else. He had no face. “Do you know why you're here?”
“No.” I felt my heartbeat pick up it's pace immediately, the vital organ slamming wildly against my ribcage. I had no idea who he was, but there was one thing I could gather from the aura around him; trouble. Nothing but trouble. “Get away from me.”
“Why?” He sneered, his voice morphing into that of a female. “The fun has just begun.”
“No!” I jerked up, but was held down immediately. Cold metal pressed down on my wrists and ankles and it took me a while to realize I'd been bound by chains. “Let me go, let me go!”
“Die!” His words buzzed in my ear as something sharp clawed into my chest. I felt the world around me twirl and twirl, as all of my energy slowly sizzled out of my body. The last thing I remembered was more darkness, before finally giving in to the cold hands of unconsciousness.
“No!” I jerked up and awake with a loud yell. My ears buzzed as my heart thumped frantically around in my chest, almost threatening to burst out through my skin. My breaths came out in ragged breaths, and the more I inhaled and exhaled, the more my insides burned. A quick glance at my chest showed nothing but sweat soaking my cotton blouse and I heaved a sigh of relief.
It was all a dream, nothing but a dream.
The relief however didn't last long as I took time to observe my surroundings. As opposed to the darkness I was previously enshrouded in, in my dreams, I was in a room. It wasn't all dark, but from the stench and soot that covered the walls, I came to one conclusion; I was in some kind of a cell.
Panic streaked through my veins as I let out more ragged breaths. My first instinct was to run, but the moment I made to stand up, something cold pressed into my skin, pulling me back. With a quick glance, I realized I was strapped to the wall, with a metal chain dangling from my wrists and ankles.
What was going on? Was I reliving my dream in real life?
No, this couldn't be happening, I needed to get out of here now. Beads of sweat cascaded down my forehead and unto my cheeks. As I frantically searched the room for any form of escape, it occurred to me that I was trapped in here, with little to no way out.
A pungent smell wafted through my nostrils and I recoiled immediately. I fought the urge to gag as I came across something; it looked nothing less than decaying matter, and the more I stared at it, the more terrified I was.
How long had that been there for?
From the looks of everything in here, it didn't look like I was getting out of here anytime soon and it broke my heart all the more.
The sound of footsteps coming closer pulled me out of my thoughts. My fear intensified, as the thought of meeting that mystery man crept into my mind.
Was he going to try to kill me again? Since I hadn't died in my dream would I…
“You're up.” A deep baritone blared around me, bringing me back to earth. I heaved a sign of relief when I realized it wasn't the man from my dreams. Instead, it was none other than the man who'd tried to kill me in the woods. My blood ran cold immediately. What if he was even worse than the man in my nightmare?
I said nothing, instead taking him in. Brown hair matted his head, with white roots indicating he was a bit elderly. Pitch black eyes gave nothing away as he stared at me, a huge frown etched on his lips. He was tall and muscular, and despite his presumed old age, I could tell he was still fit and strong.
“Answer me!” He barked and I flinched. Rough and huge hands held on to the iron bars that separated him from me. “Who the hell are you?”
My mind blanked immediately. Who the hell was I? Up until a couple of hours ago, I was a mindless ghost roaming about. Now, I was in a new body with zero knowledge about who I was.
Your name is Destiny..
How was I even sure that was my name and I wasn't just hallucinating? With everything I'd been through, it was hard telling right from wrong and what was real and what wasn't.
I stared at the man in front of me. If I hadn't spoken to him a couple of hours back, maybe I would have been able to make him believe I was mute, till whenever I was able to answer his questions.
“Are you deaf?!” He yelled again, his voice louder than the last time. Trust me when I said with each word he belted out, it made the iron bars shake in its foundation. “I asked you a question. Who the hell are you?”
“I don't know.” My voice was barely a whisper. The back of my eyes stung, and I knew it wouldn't take too long for the tears to start rolling down my cheeks. “I really don't know….”
“Do I look stupid to you?” He cut me off, his voice steely and as cold as ice. “You told me you would help me hunt the werewolves. How exactly do you know about them?”
I had no idea what pushed me to say that. In all honesty, it was only a reflex action, one I was already regretting. If I hadn't uttered it at that moment, then I would be dead by now. For the second time.
“Please let me go.” I begged, not knowing what else to do. If I were given a choice by the moon goddess, I wouldn't have stepped foot on earth again. “You have to believe me when I say….”
“You don't know who you are?” He scoffed, his voice laced with mockery and contempt. “Do I look stupid to you?”
“No no no.” I shook my head vigorously. “I swear on the moon goddess, you have to believe me. I have no idea.”
“You're a spy aren't you?” He whispered, but I heard it quite well. For some strange reason, his conclusion didn't sit well with me. Goosebumps raked my skin as he watched me through his orbs, obviously calculating my every move. “You were sent to come and spy on us. Who sent you? What's your name and which pack are you from?!”
“I don't know.” The more I responded, the more infuriated he got. I could tell just by the anger radiating from him. “I died and somehow came back….”
“What?” He cut me off once again. His eyes twinkled, as surprise creased his brows. It was only for a moment, because it disappeared in no time, just to be replaced with nothing but fury. “What did you just say?”
“You have to believe me.” I nodded frantically, as I allowed the tears stream down my cheeks. “I still don't know how it happened but….”
“You must think I'm stupid, right?” He chuckled, but there wasn't so much as a trace of humor in it. “I don't know what you've heard or what your intentions were when you thought of the insane plan to infiltrate my premises, but I promise you this'll be your last.”
“You don't understand…”
“Three days.” His voice was firm. “I'll be back in three days, and if you can't give me answers to my questions, I'll make sure your head is severed from your neck and tossed in the river, right where everyone can see it.”
Cold chills ran down my spine immediately.
“No, no, please listen to me.” My heart thudded violently in my chest at his words. “You can't…”
The rest of my words died on my lips as he walked out, leaving the weight of his words hanging in the air.
What was I going to do now?
