Chapter 6

Destiny's POV With a loud groan, I stirred awake, but the moment I peeled my eyes open, I almost wished I kept them shut, even if it was for a little while. Excruciating pain spread through my eyeballs, almost like they were on fire. I blinked back as many times as I could, hoping the little gesture would go a long way in bringing some relief. After some minutes of batting my eyelids like some blind random person, the hotness slowly gave way into a full throbbing. My head ached and my throat felt parched. I felt like a complete mess and I wasn't even surprised, because I was expecting it. What else were the results of sobbing all night long and crying myself to sleep? I sighed as I sat up, before pressing my back to the wall behind me. Even though it was dirty and stinky, I ignored it, focusing only on the cool feeling it spread throughout my body. An itch climbed down my neck, and I was just about to scratch it when something pulled me back. The chains. I pressed my eyes shut again as I fought the urge to cry. I'd wailed all night long and still, it did nothing to help me. I'd been afraid of falling asleep as that man's threats rang painfully in my ears. Three days. He was coming back for me in three days. But what was I supposed to do? I had no idea who I was, neither did I have the answers to his questions. If anything, his questions left me more confused than ever. How could he think I was a spy? I could barely recognize or remember details about myself, so how could someone have sent me to find out stuff about other people? Before falling asleep, I'd muttered a prayer to the moon goddess to help me out of this predicament. Only she had brought me back to earth, so the least she could do would be to make things easier for me, right? Your name is Destiny… No matter how hard I thought, the name didn't ring any bells in my head. Who the hell was Destiny? Did she have any relationship with why I was here? Or perhaps she could help me ….. The rest of my thoughts evaporated into thin air as the sound of footsteps coming closer filled the air. My relief dropped to my feet as I slowly backed up further into the wall. Why was he here? He said he'd be back in three days, was it three days already? Was I really asleep for that long? And…. I froze as the footsteps finally stopped. Slowly, I raised my head, just to come face to face with a lady. Brown curly hair framed her face, with a couple of strands just stopping short above her eyes. Blue orbs deep as the sea, shone in their sockets as she focused them on me. She was slim and petite, but with the aura around her and how tightly she clung to the iron bars, I wouldn't be surprised if she was able to break down the whole place. Not that I would mind though. “You've woken up.” She nodded, an undertone lacing her voice. “With how hard you cried last night, I didn't think you'd be waking up this morning.” So they'd heard and they kept quiet about it? Wow. “Who are you?” I had no idea where the courage to utter that question came from, but it was already too late to take it back now. “What are you doing here? Why are you….” “Who am I?” She chuckled out loud, cutting me off in the process. Shivers raked down my spine as she glared at me, her icy orbs tearing me apart bit by bit. She chuckled again, but there was nothing humourous about it. “That's rather ironic, don't you think?” I gulped, not knowing anything else to do. I had no idea who she was and with the aura she seemed to carry around, I wasn't sure I wanted to find out. A loud clank pulled me back to earth. I raised my head, just to see she had opened the iron bars and was currently inside the cell with me. “Eat up.” She tossed a tray in front of me. I flinched as the steel tray kissed the ground with a loud clank. The thud echoed all around, while simultaneously spilling out some of the contents in the plates. My eyes widened as they darted from the plate to the lady in front of me. With everything that happened yesterday, I had totally forgotten food was essential to the body, old or new. My mouth watered as the aroma wafted into my nose. My stomach gurgled, and if I had my way right now, I wouldn't mind downing it all in one go. Wait, what if it was poisoned? “It's not.” She spoke again. “So eat up.” I skidded backwards as she crouched in front of me, her actions catching me off guard. I paled as she wrapped her hand around mine, before pulling my hands to her. All it took was one swipe at her pocket for her to brandish a rusty old key. “Don't try anything funny.” She warned, as she freed my hands from the metal chains. I sighed in relief as I immediately flexed my limbs, trying to get blood rushing back in them. “Or else ..” The relief I'd just felt disappeared the moment it came. I watched with wide eyes as she raised her fingers to my face. Her fingers were filled with claws, dangerously sharp and pointy ones. “Try anything funny and I'll slit your throat here and now.” A sly smirk made its way to her face but I couldn't dare ignore the icy tendrils that pricked her voice. “Now eat up.” “Now, who the hell are you?” I'd barely popped a spoonful of rice in my mouth before her question reached my ear. “Who the hell are you?” “I, I.” I paused, not knowing what else to do. What was I going to say now? Would she react the same way that man reacted yesterday? What if instead of threatening me, she slits my throat right here on the spot? I blinked back as my lips quivered. My grip against the spoon became wobbly and excruciatingly loose. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if I passed out anytime soon. “You're not mute are you?” She asked again. “I and my father heard you crying last night so I know that mouth of yours works. Now, freaking use it.” “Her father.” I mused. No wonder, it made total sense. The way they walked, talked too and her aura was the same as his. Dangerous, if not worse than her dads. “I swear.” My voice croaked. Somehow, finally confirming that she was related to the man from yesterday, did nothing to calm my anxiety. Instead, I felt my anxiety levels searing up to the sky. Tears stung the back of my eyes and I blinked. Maybe if I shed a couple of tears, she would actually believe me. “I have no idea….” “Again with that bullshit?” She guffawed, cutting me off immediately. “You know, when Father told me yesterday, I thought he was joking. I just had to come and see for myself.” “Please.” I let the spoon clang to the ground. “I promise, I'm not lying to you. I have no idea. I woke up in a new body and I have no memory of what happened earlier. I really don't. You have to believe me.” Silence. Silence was all I got after that. A million and one thoughts raked through my mind as she took me in. What was she thinking? Did she share the same view as her father? Would she think I was telling a lie and murder me here on the spot? What if…. “I believe you.” She finally let out. “I have no idea why, but you don't seem to be telling a lie.” “Thank you.” I sank to the floor immediately, relief flooding through my veins. “Thank you so ….” “But that doesn't mean my father will.” She dropped the bombshell. “His offer still stands, tell him the truth in three days, or he'll kill you.” “But, but.” I stuttered, confusion and panic stroking my features. If she could believe me, then why couldn't he? “What, what am I going to do now?” “I can't help you.” She was on her feet immediately, her boots pressing into the ground. “But I know someone who can.” I pursed my lips. I wasn't sure why, but something about whatever she wanted to say, just didn't sit right with me. “There’s a woman we basically worship here in our pack.” Her voice was so low, it sent shivers down my spine. “Some say she's the all knowing and dabbles on the borders of the past and present, just like your case. If you can get to her, then maybe she might be of help.” “Where can I find her?” I croaked. “I have no idea…” “Me neither.” She shrugged, an evil grin on her face. “That's what you have to figure out yourself. Adios.” Without giving me so much as another glance, I watched as she stalked back out of the cell. The moment she had slid the iron bars shut, she whirled around and added. “Oh, and one more thing.” She grinned. “Rumor says she's always only out on the full moon. And the next full moon is in two days time.” “No.” I gasped. “That's right, baby.” Her smile widened. “The same night my dad is coming to kill you.” What the hell was I going to do now?
