A slap of reality

Tifani quickly pulled from the hug her hands resting on my shoulders as she studied my face, neither or us were smiling and Logan’s body went stiff as he looked between the two of us, “I don’t want…” I started as she pulled me back into the hug, shushing me softly “don’t say that, you’re just confused, A mate is an amazing thing Molly.” She whispered softly running her fingers through my hair my eyes closed for a few seconds “which one was it?” Logan finally asked making me and tifani septerate by a few inches and let me turn my attention to him I hesitated with a small breath “alpha Ryland” I said softly making tif flash a small smile “Luna sisters?” She beamed a little too excited for me, I sighed feeling Logan’s hand on my shoulder “you’re positive?” He asked my eyes locking onto his, I slowly nodded and he quickly hugged me, Logan was like a brother “you don’t have to go if you don’t want to, it’s going to be okay.” He spoke as I happily hugged him back, he was going to make an amazing alpha one day, always so involved and caring for each pack member. The rest of the night almost felt like a fever dream, tifani stayed up with me the entire night, and I was finally starting to feel exhausted when the sun finally came up, my head was resting on the kitchen table, my eyes closed as a plate was placed in front of me, “come on you gotta eat.” Tif said with a small yawn I smiled “and you need sleep, there should be a few more hours before everyone gets up, go lay down.” I said nodding towards the stairs, she quickly agreed leaving me to pick at the food for a few minutes before I walked into the living room, plopping down on one of the couches, I curled up slightly laying on my side before letting my eyes close, it was quiet and relaxing, and my body needed the sleep. I wasn’t sure how long I was out for but I felt something move over my body, my eyes flashed open, my hand wrapping around someone’s wrist as I yanked them over the back of the couch and onto the floor beside me, they landed hard and with a small groan, Zora was ready for a fight, not only did she hate being woken up but that’s not that way to do it. I blinked a few times looking at a quiet stunned Ryland laying on his back “Molly what the acutual hell.” Jason called flying down the stairs, my face went flush as I realized what happened “oh my god I’m so sorry I didn’t know it was you, don’t you know not to touch someone while their sleeping?” I asked quickly offering my hand to him, “alpha Ryland I’m so sorry, shes a little jumpy.” Jason said standing next to me helping Ryland to his feet, he rolled his shoulder with another cheeky smile “it’s okay, I was just trying to cover her up, she looked cold, but lesson leaned.” He said with a stiff laugh, they both walked towards the kitchen and I put my hands in my head with a sigh ‘you flipped our mate?!’ Zora snapped at me ‘how was I supposed to know it was him, no one is stupid enough to reach across a sleeping person.’ I replied, but only got silence back so I knew she was annoyed with me. A few more minutes went by and I could tell it was Logan who sat beside me “nice going.” He teased and I grumbled leaning against him, my head resting on his shoulder, he tilted his head letting it sit on top of mine “he’s going to reject me.” I whispered getting a chuckle in response “i think he’s too scared to, probably think you’ll drop him again.” He teased making me finally laugh, Logan let me rest a little longer, my eyes staying shut even with the sound of other people, we were close, me Logan and I always have been. A few new scents wafted in the room with the smell of pine always hanging in the air, my eyes opened hearing a slightly deep growl, my head shooting up to look around, my eyes were met with Rylands gaze and I realized he saw the way Logan and I were sitting, it wasn’t bad but for you to see your mate curled next to another male that’s enough to make anyone jealous. My expression went from confused to, unamused, mate or not I wasn’t the jealous type and couldn’t handle someone that was. Logan patted my leg, “that’s my cue to move.” He said under his breath, even if he was a future alpha and didn’t have to worry about Ryland he still didn’t need a pack fight to break out. I rolled my eyes stretching my arms over my head and walked into the kitchen. I looked around for a seat before hearing someone clear their throat, I looked over at one of the men introduced last night, he had a friendly smile and patted the spot beside him, I grabbed a plate of fruit and a water before sitting beside him. “Good morning trainer Luna ma’am.” He said softly making my lips turn ever so slightly “I’m not your Luna and don’t call me ma’am it’s weird, Molly is fine.” I replied taking a bite “moll ball it is.” He beamed happily making me actually laugh, I couldn’t explain why I was so relaxed around him but I was, it was a conversation with someone I knew for years. We talked back and forth getting to know eachother, he was the Gamma which is third in command, but surprisingly seemed like the laid back kind. He had a bright smile and a laugh that could easily make other people laugh, he seemed like the type to play peace keeper as long as possible. ‘Get your group together, it’s time.’ Jason’s voice rang through my head, I kindly excused myself before calling for the team to meet on the track. It only took a few minutes and tif was the last one out she stood behind me giving my hand a small squeeze, I glanced at her with a small nod letting her know I was okay. I kept my eyes forward even if all I wanted to do was stare at Ryland, the way the sun made it look like his hair had a glow, he wore a muscle shirt and I personally would be more then happy to drool over him all day if possible. “Miss Stone, would you mind sparing with me? I would love to see your abilities.” Ryland spoke, I watched as a tall brunette bounced past me, she was the flirty kind, tight clothing, nice curves but a hell of a fighter. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly disappointed he didn’t call on me, I watched as his shirt came off and my eyes moved over him, slowly tracing over each defining muscle he had once I finally looked back up I realized he was looking right back at me with an amused smile, I rolled my eyes shaking my head slightly, curse this mate bond bull s**t. I watched the way he moved, and although Amanda was good she barely got as much as scratch on him, he continued to pull random people either letting them know yes or no, I was kind of annoyed he told people I trained no, they were some of the best. Finally it was my turn and not surprisingly I was the last one, finally I could let some energy out, Jason and Kari along with my parents and a few other pack members were watching I took a stance in front of him “ready?” He asked with a playful smile, I smiled nodding in response, he took a stance and paused for a few seconds, both of us simply waiting for the other to move “no.” He finally spoke making my heart sink a little, “no? You haven’t even seen me fight, if this is about this morning-“ he quickly put his hand up “my answer is no, I don’t have to explain my reasoning.” He replied, making even Zora scoff in my head “alpha with all due respect I’m talented and I can keep the venue safe.” I quickly said taking a step closer, “stop pushing so hard.” He replied calmly making me even more frustrated “just tell me why you won’t let me go.” I said staring up at him “Molly.” He said making my nose scrunched “Ryland” I snapped back finally getting him to look at me “ fine, it’s because of you…because I refuse to let my mate get hurt if something goes wrong, it’s as simple as that, no means no.” He snapped back raising his voice louder then I thought, there were a few small breaths in the distance as we locked eyes with eachother, “I’m a warrior, and I’ll be a warrior over anything else.” I finally said before storming away, I walked towards the woods before shifting and sprinting off. Oddly enough Zora was on my side, letting out a few growls as she ran, I closed my link from everyone I could think of before disappearing for a few hours, it gave me time to figure out my plan, if I didn’t go I wouldn’t get attached and wouldn’t have to stay in his stupid pack. Even if he admitted I was his mate that doesn’t mean anything I wasn’t leaving my pack to be some kind of house wife, that wasn’t my style, it was well past dark and Zora was still pacing back and forth in a field, when a branch a few feet away snapped making my head snap, Zora let out a growl before relaxing again, looking at my mother standing there with a sad smile. She opened her arms and I happily trotted over to her, pressing my body into hers are her fingers sunk into my fur, “I know I gave you grief about this but now it’s a reality.” She said softly making Zora let out a whine, “shift back and talk to me.” She asked making me take a step back doing what she asked. I had tear streaks running down my cheeks as I sat in the grass, and she took a seat behind me “talk to me my little beast.” She added rubbing my back “I don’t want to have to choose, I can’t leave, this is what I’ve worked so hard for and now I can’t even do what I love, all because some handsome stranger says so? Mom that’s not fair.” I muttered shaking my head, I was a frustrated cryer not a sad one, and I was very confused. She let out a small hum “I was in your boat my love, an upcoming doctor in my own pack, living my own life with my own friends that is until your fathers body was carried in by my pack warriors, there was a rouge fight in another pack and they didn’t have a doctor so they brought him to me.” I sat silently listening to her, studying her face as she spoke. “At first I was scared, not because I was worried about the future but because my mate was bleeding out and I didn’t even know his name. When everything was said and done and it was time for him to leave….” She paused finally looking at me “I stayed… and it shattered myself and your father, I told him I couldn’t leave my family, he said he understood and promised to come visit me…and he did every week until I was ready to go with him.” My jaw dropped slightly “but it came at a cost, my wolf wouldn’t talk to me for weeks, I couldn’t sleep, my skills as a doctor were off, I couldn’t focus unless my mate was around, because that’s the way the bond is.” She said finally cupping my face in her hands “it’s okay to be scared, but don’t push him away simply for being in your life little beast, you’re too proud, but you’ll learn.” I closed my eyes as she placed a kiss on my forehead “you have to make your own choice, no one can do it for you.” She added with a small breath before leaving me back with my own thoughts.
