Ogbanje

CHAPTER FOUR.

The trip to Chidinma's village wasn't a good one.Because they were so irritated, the parents demanded that the school bury her. The principal agreed to carry that out.

In the school, the ogbanje girls continued to wreak havoc. The reason the principal was so worried about this was that he knew that no student would be able to begin classes there the following session.

Despite his efforts, nothing was working.

He had made contact with numerous prophets and men of God, but either they would not accept the offer or something else would occur.

While he was still deep in contemplation, there was a knock on the door.

"Who is that?" He gave a fierce shout.

'It's the V.P, Sir.' A calm feminine voice said.

'Okay, you may come in.'

The vice principal entered and sat down. She screamed with laughter after a brief period of silence. The principal also joined them and then, she said:

'Fake pastors, everywhere. Let me laugh away my sorrows.'

'There is nothing that I won't see ohh.' The principal said.

'Sir, I'm here to make a complaint.' The vice principal said.

'Complain kwa, about what?'

' It's about the chemistry teacher. I just learnt from the Ss3 students that she hasn't entered their class, since thus term. Other classed said bad about her.' The vice principal narrated.

'This is very bad. Summon her to my office, now! The principal commanded and she left after saying a 'yes, sir.

The principal was lost in thought. He was always pampering his teachers because teachers are scarce. He also taught the students government because, many teachers he invited, turned down his offer.

A man dressed in white appeared to Chioma in her dreams. The man said to her:

'Be prayerful. Those devilish girls would soon be ashamed. But you are going to experience a lot of sad things, Chioma. You will face a lot of temptation. Be mindful and prayerful. Pay attention.

Sweating, Chioma awoke. The message was succinct, straightforward, and clear.

She flipped open her bible to Proverbs 10:18 and read aloud:

'The name of the lord is a strong tower, the righteous runneth into it and are saved.'

She prayed for God's direction and guidance while reading it several times over. She prayed for God to intervene.

During the biology teacher's lesson, Chioma excused herself. Her instincts were telling her of dangers. To find out what was going on, she went outside.

She realized the danger as she was making her way to the restroom.

It was Helen passing a wrapped cake to a junior student. Innocently, the gluttonous student grabbed the cake and thanked her.

Chioma was unsure of what to do. She had to make a quick decision. After removing the wrapping from the cake, Onyinye sliced a piece and consumed it. With a burst of speed, Chioma hit Onyinye, causing the cake to fall to the ground, where she purposefully smashed it with her foot.

"Aaah!" I apologize, Onyinye. It was an accident.' Chioma apologized, offering a hand to lift her up.

She lifted her up and asked:

'Hope you aren't hurt?'.

'No, I'm not.' replied Onyinye.

'I'm so sorry.' Chioma apologized.

'It's okay, I understand.' Onyinye answered back.

' I'm glad. Come to my class during break period, I'll give you some money to buy cupcakes.' Chioma said to her. Onyinye jumped up excitedly, and then replied:

' Wow! I'm happy. I'll come and get that. You're in Ss1b right?'.

'No, Ss1a.'

'Okay, I'll come and get it.' Onyinye said and left.

Chioma was very excited, but she hid it. She could see Helen, burning with anger.'

Chioma was about to return to her class, when Helen called her.

Helen was standing with Bose and Enejo, the new Igala girl that was initiated recently. Chioma didn't want to answer them but, because they were functionaries, she decided to go. The school authorities gave a command that they must obey. Bose was actually a junior student.

'What was the meaning of that? Bose asked.

Chioma wondered what gave little Bose,the guts to question her.

'What gave you the guts to talk to me in that manner? Chioma questioned her.

'Mechi pu onu gi.' Bose said.

'Shey you, Chioma or whatever you call yourself. We've warned you to stay away from us. E be like say you no dey. I go teach you bitter lesson ohh.' Helen said.

Chioma summoned courage and replied: '

I don't care, do your worst.'

'I should do my worst, abi? Helen asked, raising her hand to hit Chioma.'

'Babe, leave this girl. Ruka said.

'Na because of you ohh'. Helen said and then, facing Chioma she said: ' Thank your stars, fool.' She snapped at her and left.

Chioma was very surprised. She couldn't believe what she did outside. 'Could I be that bold?' She asked herself. She was an introverted person. She bent her head on her desk and muttered some prayers of thanksgiving to God. She also asked God for guidance and boldness.

Kosi came out and asked her what happened and she replied that it wasn't a serious matter.

The Ogbanje girls went on initiating more students. By various ways such as giving them foods, candy, sweets, drinks, clothes and many other things.

Ebere was among the girls that was initiated. She was Kosi' sister.

After her initiation, she was given the task to initiate her sister and according to their plans, Kosi would initiate Chioma.

To Becky, it was an easy task. She bought a soft drink and casted a spell at it. She drank some and gave the rest to her sister.

After the initiation, Kosi was asked to initiate Chioma. She refused to do that but they threatened her with death and she quickly accepted.

She was given chocolate by Daniella to give to Chioma.

'I'm sorry I've betrayed you, my dear best friend.' Kosi had said as she left for Chioma's dormitory.

'Hi, Chioma.' Kosi greeted.

'How're you doing? Chioma asked her and she replied positively.

'I'm studying chemistry.' Chioma said.

'Wow! What topic?' Kosi asked.

'Water.' Chioma replied.

'Good. I got you a chocolate today.' Kosi said and handed the chocolate to Chioma.

'I would have loved to take the chocolates now, but I'm fasting.' Chioma said.

'You're fasting? Please refrain from fasting excessively to prevent ulcers. Kosi said and left.

Chioma's instincts warned her not to take the chocolates and she disposed of it.
