As Mary slept, I watched her to make sure that she was alright. I started to notice that she was whimpering and crying in her sleep. Seeing that, almost broke my heart. I decided to get up and go over to the bed. I tried to place my hand on her arm, but she was moving around to much. I could see tears falling from her eyes and I made up my mind. I took of my shirt and pants until I was only in my boxers. I lifted the blanket and got into the bed next to her. I slid my arm under her head and she curled into me. She calmed down and began to rest again. I stroked her hair as she slept ad before I knew it, I was asleep as well.
The sound of the door bursting open woke me up and I jumped. Surprisingly, Mary was still next to me and jumped as well. I jumped out of the bed and crouched near the floor in an attack pose letting out a low and aggressive growl. Mary dove out of the bed on the opposite side and curled into a ball. “Aiden, the prisoner escaped and is somewhere in the house!”
“FIND HIM!” I yelled in a growl. I saw Mary pull the comforter off the bed and I tried to calm myself down so that I did not shift into my wolf. I did not know why Steven had burst into the room the way he did. He knew better than to enter my room in such a manner. I shook my head as he ran out of the room. I whisper, “Mary,” when I realized that she was not in view. There was no more anger in my voice and the growl was gone. The sound of her own heartbeat was so loud that I could not hear anything else. I could also hear the sound of bones breaking and cloths ripping. Was someone shifting in the hallway? It was the only explanation I could think of. I walked around to the other side of the bed. The comforter was pilled up half way under the bed. “Mary? Are you alright?” I reached for the comforter and pulled it away from the bed, but she was not under it.
There was a new sent in the room. I could not recognize it, but it was coming from under the bed. Could it be? Was Mary under the bed but not un human form? I got on my hands and knees and looked under the bed. Sure enough, there were emerald eyes looking back at me. I held my hand out and the eyes got closer. I could hear sniffing. I crawled backward a few feet and sat on the floor to wait for her. After a few intense minutes, a beautiful she-wolf crawled out from under the bed. Her fur was a brilliant white that made her emerald eyes pop eve more. Her paws were speckled with black for definition. I gasped in aw of her beauty. I knew that she could understand me even though I could not hear her. “Mary?”
The wolf nodded her head and whimpered.
“I am going to shift into my wolf so that we can talk, please don’t be scared.” I stood up and turned my back to the wolf. I pulled off my boxers and then shifted into my wolf. I heard her yelp and her paws on the floor as she went back under the bed. I laid down on the floor facing the bed. I tried to make a mink connection with her, but she needed to accept the link before we could communicate.
-Mary’s POV-
The pain of my bones breaking was nothing compared to the torture I had endured over the past two years. I felt something pushing against my mind as Aiden, in his wolf form, stared at me. I looked at my hands, but they were no longer human. They were paws. I was so scared and I did not know what was going on. All I wanted to do was ask Aiden to explain everything. The moment I thought his name, I heard his voice in my head. Thank you for allowing me in.
What is going on? I did not actually speak, I thought. It felt odd not being able to speak verbally.
You are in your wolf form. Did you not know about her? His voice was calm and caused me to relax.
I’m a human. This is a dream, right? I could not comprehend what had happened.
No, this is no dream. Please come out from under the bed so I can help you back into human form. I did not know why, but I knew that I could trust him. I crawled out from under the bed and sat in front of him. There you go.
How can I hear you in my mind? I had so many questions and I did not know if I would get all the answers.
You allowed me to mindlink with you. You must now choose weather or not to join the pack. If you decide not to, the link will sever and you will no longer be able to hear me.
I c****d my head to the side as I thought about things. If I choose to stay, would that make you, MY alpha?
I could see a smile in his eyes as I asked my question. If you choose to stay, then yes.
Must I choose at this moment? I was so confused and scared that I did not want to make that choice in the mindset that I was in.
No, I shall allow you 24 hours to make you choice. I nodded at him and scooted closer to him. I was so close that I would touch my snout against his shoulder. I rested my snout on him and closed my eyes. Mary, you must shift back into your human form. I can help you do that if you are ready.
Yes please. I pick my head up and stand on all four legs. How do I shift back?
Aiden stand on all fours as well. For me, I just will my wolf to return to my mind. I tell my body to look human and I shift.
And that works for you? It seemed too easy.
Try it. I close my eyes and picture the way my human form looked. Every curve of my body. I started to feel the ones breaking again and I collapse onto the floor. When I opened my eyes, I looked at myself. I was huma again, but I was naked. I grabbed the comforter and covered myself. I looked in front of me and Aiden was standing in his human form. He had already put his oxers back on. “There you go. You did well for your first shift.” Before I could respond to him, there was a knock on the door. Aide looked at it and smiled. “Enter.”
The door opened and Carson walked in. He looked around as if he could sense something. “I felt it. Aiden, please tell me I felt it.”
Aiden turned to me and smiled. “What did you feel?”
Aiden did not take his eyes off me as he listened, “Family.”
“You said before that Mary was your sister. How did you know?” Aiden held eye contact with me. I felt an overwhelming need to be in his arms. It was almost like he could sense my want and held his arms open for me.
“I remembered her face. We were very little, but I remembered it. The fear on her face when the alpha kicked in the door to the house, we lived in. They tried to hide us before the others entered. I pulled Mary as fast as I could, but she fell and was caught. They never saw me. I heard my parents cry out as they were murdered, Mary’s screams as they took her away.” He paused for a moment as I ran to Aiden and into his arms. He held me close to him. “I was only ten. I did not know what to do. I ran. I ran all the way to this pack and could not explain.”
“Are you at fault for leaving her behind, Carson?” Aiden’s voice was warming.
“If I could go back, I would bring the entire pack to save her. I am so sorry Mary. Please forgive me.” Carson fell to his knees. I pulled away from Aiden and walked to Carson. He looked up at me with tears in his eyes. “Please Mary.”
I dropped to my knees and thru my arms around him. I whispered into his ear, “Brother. Family.” He held me close and cried. Aiden cleared his throat. We stood up and faced him. “I’m sorry.”
“There is nothing better than finding your family after so long. Please do not apologize. Carson has been a great warrior and I’m sure, not that he has hope again, he will be even better.”
I walked up to Aiden and smiled. “So much is happening.”
“I think you need rest, little wolf.” I looked into his eyes. They were so caring and so mesmerizing; all I could do was smile. I was not sure if I liked the fact that he called me little wolf or not, but I became so tired that it did not matter at that moment.
