-Aiden’s POV- Feeling Mary grip my arm the way she did made me want to protect her to the death. Why was I acting this way? There were plenty of she-wolves that I have saved from hell that I did not care about this way. Why was she different? I felt her shaking behind me so I placed my hand on top of hers. The shake was no longer fear. She was two years behind when it came to her wolf. I knew this shake was her wolf presenting itself. This was just the first showing; it was going to take at least a week before her wolf would be fully present and available for her to communicate with. I turned around and looked her in the eyes. “Breath Mary. Just breath.” She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. The shaking subsided and she relaxed. When she opened her eyes, she looked into mine. “Who was the intruder?” her first thought being the safety of the house was amazing. She did not come from here, yet she asked about things. “Are you sure you want me to explain things to you?” I did not want her to get scared again. I also did not want her to remember anything that caused her pain. “Please.” She seemed stronger than only a few minutes ago. I took a breath and then held her hands in mine. “It was Alpha Mark.” Her hands grabbed mine tighter. “But no worries, he caught him and the three warriors with him and he is not in the dungeon below the house.” A tear fell from her eye and she tried to smile. “Let’s go back upstairs and talk more in a comfortable and private space.” We started walking back to my room, her arms clinging to mine. “Will we be sharing a room?” I looked down at her with a smile. “It is my room, but there are plenty of rooms that I can go to. I do not want you to be uncomfortable here.” We get to my room and go inside. I close the door behind me and smile at her. “Do you think you could feel safe here?” Her eyes get far away for a moment. Then she looked at me. “I don’t know what safe is.” Her words made my heart ache. What she must have gone thru to not know safety. -Mary’s POV- I stood in the bedroom with Aiden not knowing what to expect. For the past two years whenever I was in a room with a man it was for him to use me in any way he thought of. Aiden seemed to not want to touch me. It confused me. I started to feel something deep within my mind wake. I ignore it for the time being. “You seem to have many questions for me.” Aiden looked into my eyes to try and judge my thoughts. Growing up in a packhouse, I knew what he was doing. No wolf had ever been able to do what Aiden was trying. I giggled out loud on accident. “What was that for?” “You are trying to read my mind and emotions.” I spoke with a laugh. “And if I am?” he took a few steps toward me. I was standing by the bed and he was by the door before coming to me. I swallowed hard as he got within a couple of feet from me. “I…. it won’t w…. work.” I started to get nervous. He gently cupped my face with both hands and smiled. “The you are going to have to tell me what you are thinking and feeling.” Did he not know what he was asking of me was more than I could handle most times? I looked into his eyes as a tear fell from mine. “I’m scared. You scare me.” He dropped his hands and took a few steps away from me. “I do not mean to frighten you. I want to protect you. Mark is not a nice man.” My legs were against the bed, I started to feel them get shaky so I sat down onto it. I could feel my mind travel back to the pain. I saw when I was chained to that bed and everything that happened that horrible day. I could hear it, feel it, see it.
