Jane's POV
Leaving the palace to gallivant around the market was fun. Though Gwen almost had a heart attack on seeing the guards.
My mind couldn't help but drift to the weird man we met also. He didn't look like a commoner he looked more like a warrior or Alpha, if I am not mistaken.
It also crossed my mind that he might be the guest my father said he wanted to introduce me to.
As I climbed the stairs to the outdoor lounge. My mind drifted from what Gwen was saying, thinking back to the way he pinned me to the wall, the way he looked at me like I was a meal he found hard to resist.
Probably that was what Shakespeare meant when he wrote about Juliet being a rich jewel in an Ethiopian’s ear.
What if he tells his father he saw me in the market? I would only have to find a way not make him speak about it.
Gwen opened the door and I stepped in to see someone else who wasn’t the man from the market. I exhaled mostly from disappointment, as I walked closer to where they were.
The guest was dressed simply in a white shirt and grey pants, his golden-brown hair combed back, while I was draped in a corseted floral gown that constricted my lungs.
“Good day, Alpha Johnson,” I said to father, lowering my head before lowering it also to father’s guest whose eyes lingered on my boobs that were suffocating behind my dress.
The gown is so tight that my upper breast is balloon-like.
He smiled, stretching his hand for a handshake which I took. “I am Alpha Gary from the Riverbane pack.”
“It’s a pleasure meeting you Alpha Gary.”
Not bothering to introduce myself. He took my hand to his lips, planting a soft kiss.
It felt unnecessary, but I couldn’t help plastering my face with an unwavering smile.
“Please sit.”
I did, interlocking my palms on my lap. He sat afterwards glancing between father and me. “Her beauty can’t be described. She will make a fine bride.”
Father's deep laughter filled the air. “And a fine mother don’t you think?”
“Yes, I can’t wait to see my pups running around calling their mother.”
But father said I would get married to my mate, I haven’t even gotten my mate yet, but father is already bringing me a spouse.
Though I was confused and wanted to ask questions, I knew I wasn’t allowed to voice my opinion openly.
“Alpha Johnson tells me you love making embroidery and playing the pianoforte?”
I lifted my gaze, happiness blooming at the thought of us having something in common. But the spark died as quickly as it appeared when he said. “You will be busy with your duties, you will rarely have time for sewing or the likes. Besides, that’s what the royal tailors are for.”
My mouth hung open as I couldn’t believe my ears. I cleared my throat and smiled.
He smiled looking at his father. “Why don’t we go for a stroll around the garden. I would love to know her more personally.”
I hoped father would refuse seeing he has never left me unchaperoned. He didn’t bat an eyelash before standing. “Who am I to disrupt a good thing from blooming?”
I watched as he went back inside the mansion the guards stationed around following him leaving me unprotected with a total stranger.
“What is your take on marriage?” he asked catching my attention. I felt it was a trap as he would give my father complete feedback on my upbringing.
I smiled, as I uttered with so much femininity. “Whatsoever pleases my Alpha pleases me, whatsoever pleases my husband pleases me.”
He nodded delighted with my reply. My stomach turned from disgust. He stood from where he was seated, coming to occupy the seat close to me. His finger was trailing my arm. “What's your take on s*x?”
I felt disgusted, wanting to shout and punch him in the nose. Instead, I exhaled moving farther away from him. Repeating the same line that made my mouth sour. “Whatsoever pleases my husband pleases me.”
He beamed like a child, as if I just passed a test I didn't know I sat for. “I look forward to making you mine. Go forward first, let me watch you go in.”
I glared at him before schooling my expression, it was hard to smile but I forced it. “Okay, Alpha Gary.”
With that I stood up fuming as I walked ahead and he did behind me I glanced back to see him watching lustfully.
On getting to my room, I slammed the door, resting my back on it. My chest is heaving from anger. I closed my eyes, knowing I can't survive being in his space.
I heard a knock on the door and rushed to open it knowing it would be Gwen or Jake. Though I hoped it would be Jake so he could help me speak to father to dismiss him.
But it was Gwen. I sighed and walked straight to my bed as I left the door open for her to step in.
“Is everything alright My Lady?” She asked curiously.
I sat with a huff, folding my leg. “Have you ever been intimate with anyone Gwen?”
My question caught her unaware, making her stiff before she shut the door in haste. ‘My Lady,’ she uttered uncomfortably.”
“I’m sorry, I shouldn't have asked.” I apologized feeling awkward.
She came and sat beside me. “It's not a problem my lady. If you care to share, can I ask why you asked?”
I shifted, clearing my throat again as I felt pricked all of a sudden. After her reaction explaining my plight felt strange.
She waited patiently for me to speak but I couldn't bring myself to start. I lay flat on my bed. “Don't bother Gwen, I don't want to talk about it. I would rather go to bed.”
I lay on my side, closing my eyes.
“How about your evening bath?”
“Close the door on your way out.”
“Okay, my lady.”
