Enchanted

Connor POV As soon as Alpha Leon starts screaming and clutching his head, Sarah stands and backs away in fright, her hand going to her mouth. Her whole body is trembling as I wrap my arms around her shoulders and guide her back to my bed. Sitting her down, I knelt in front of her. Cupping her cheeks, I force her to look at me and not Alpha Leon, who is now curled up on the floor. “It wasn’t your fault.” I told her gently, “The ring must have an enchantment to stop him from taking it off.” Tears fell from her eyes and ran down her cheeks. I pulled her head to my chest and stroked her hair. “It’s going to be okay. He’s going to be okay.” My bedroom door banged open and I turned to see my father, Darren and David standing in the doorway. Darren is the first to move as he rushes to his Alpha, kneeling beside his prone form. “What happened?” he asks, worry evident in his voice. “I’m not completely sure, but I think that ring on his finger is enchanted. When Sarah went to take it off, he just screamed, clasped his head, and collapsed.” I told them. “A doctor is on the way.” My father informed me. “I think we need a witch more than a doctor,” I stated. “David, can you take Sarah to Eva and Crystal? Tell them what happened.” My father instructs him. David nods and takes over comforting Sarah from me, helping her up and guiding her from the room. “Darren, help me lift him onto the bed.” My father says, approaching Leon’s leg and squatting to lift him. Darren puts his hands underneath Leon’s arms and they both carry him to my bed. Once he was settled, they both turned to me, but it was Darren that spoke, “Tell me everything.” “I don’t know how much he would want me to say.” I stammered, unsure whether to trust Darren with this. What if he is Stacey’s man? Stalking towards me, Darren stops in front of me with scant inches to spare, “If it is to do with my Alpha and best friend, I need to know.” He growls at me. I took a step backwards, holding up my hands, “Okay, I will tell you what I know.” He places his hands in his pockets and raises an eyebrow at me, but doesn’t move. Taking a deep breath, I started to explain, “Beth and I believed that Leon and Sarah were actually fated mates and that Stacey had somehow enchanted Leon into thinking that she was his fated mate. When we started talking about enchantments, Leon started fiddling with his ring but then sort of zoned out. Sarah tried to remove the ring, but it appears that there is also an enchantment on it that prevents it from being removed.” Running his hand through his hair, Darren started pacing around the room, “That would explain a few things.” He muttered. My father and I just looked at one another before looking back at Darren, waiting for an explanation. He stopped his pacing and faced us, crossing his arms over his chest. “Leon was attracted to Sarah from the moment he saw her. I was there at the bar where they met. He spent most of the evening just looking at her, they hooked up after I left to go home to my mate.” He explains. “He was waiting for his brother to come of age and find a mate, so that he could tell his father that he didn’t want to be Alpha. He just wanted Sarah. But then Stacey entered the picture at a full moon ball. He never paid any attention to her until he had a drink of whiskey and then suddenly, she was there attached to his arm claiming that they were mates.” He continued. “I thought it was strange at the time and then, when Sarah went missing, he spent months looking for her. He stopped looking around the same time that that ring appeared on his finger. A month later, they were mated and marked. A year later, Lizzy was born. When he saw Sarah at your birthday party, it was as if a switch was flipped. He started to look alive again. Our visits here got more and more frequent, he wanted to come even if you and Beth were otherwise engaged. He wanted to see Sarah.” He finished, looking down at his friend laid out on my bed. “It makes so much more sense now!” he exclaims, just as the doctor knocks on the door frame. “Come in, doctor.” My father instructed her. She entered the room and headed straight to Leon and checked for a pulse, “What happened?” she asked. “We believe the ring he is wearing is enchanted, when someone went to remove it, he collapsed.” My father informed her. “Ummm…” she murmurs as she works, checking Alpha Leon medically. She then shifts his ring on his finger, watching his face intently. Nothing happened for a little while, but then his face scrunches up and his muscles tense. She lets go of his hand and his muscles all relax once more. “Hmmm…..” Turning to look at the three of us standing by the door watching her, she rose to her feet. “You are correct, the ring is enchanted. I have a friend that may be able to help, or at least give me some advice on the matter. I will go and give them a call now.” She packs up her things and goes to leave the room. Darren places a hand on her arm as she passes us, “Will he wake up, Doctor?” he asked, concern evident in his face. “I believe so, but I will know more once I speak to my friend.” She says before looking at my father and inclining her head slightly, “Alpha.” “Doctor.” My dad replies. “What do we do now?” I asked. “We wait,” my father stated. “Beta Darren, your men have crossed the border and will be here soon.” “Thank you, Alpha. I will go and meet them.” Darren replies, leaving the room with a final glance at Leon lying on my bed. “I am going to check on the women,” my father informed me. “Can you check in with Stuart and see if Leon’s men have made any progress?” “Of course.” I nodded at him as he left my room. I take a seat at my desk and look at the person who, in effect, is my father-in-law. Thoughts of Beth filter through my head, thoughts of how terrified she probably was, how lonely and lost she would be feeling. I sniff back the tears that are forming in my eyes and take my phone out of my pocket to call Stuart.
