Connor POV
Pulling out of my mother’s embrace, I quickly wiped away my tears as I rushed to the table. In the centre sat the map that we had printed out. The two red crosses that mark the locations of the two CCTV cameras where the car had disappeared, were now joined by a blob of ink off to one side of the road.
Wanda was pointing to the blob, “She’s there. I am certain of it.”
“But there is nothing there.” Alpha Leon exclaims, “No buildings, nothing.”
“The map is two years old,” I told him, my voice hoarse from my crying, “A lot can change in two years.”
“We are waiting for satellite imagery to come through.” My father explained.
“What about researching planning applications?” My dad’s beta, Stuart, asked. He took out his phone and started typing into it, obviously researching his idea.
“Until we know what’s there, we can’t make any plans.” My father stated, slumping back in his chair.
“It’s only a few hours away. I can take Baz and a few warriors and scout the area.” Darren suggested.
“I’ll go with you.” I told them, going to turn from the table and head out to get ready for the trip.
Hands clamped down on my shoulders as “No!” was shouted out by numerous people around the table.
“Why not?” I asked, glaring at everyone, and shrugging off their hands.
My mother reached for me, turning my head so that I faced her. “Because you are too close to Beth. You may act without thought, putting Beth, yourself, and the team in danger.” She told me gently.
Sighing, I turned back to the table. “Fine, but I will be there when we go and get her.”
“Of course.” My father agreed, before turning to Alpha Leon. “Men from both packs need to go. I suggest sending Stuart and David with a couple of warriors.”
Nodding, Alpha Leon replied, “Agreed. Darren, Baz, and a couple of my warriors will go as well.”
Stuart rose from his chair, “I will get our people organised. We will be ready to leave in fifteen. I also found out that planning permission was given for a two-bed bungalow to be built in that location about eighteen months ago, so there could be something there.” He informed us, before leaving the room.
Darren and Baz left shortly afterwards, leaving myself, my parents, Beth’s parents, Lizzy, and Wanda sitting quietly around the table. No one spoke a word. We all just sat there staring at the map.
The silence was interrupted by my dad’s phone pinging. Taking it out of his pocket, he read the message. His eyes lit up, before he placed his phone face up on the table.
“Satellite images have come through.” He said, pointing at his phone.
We all slowly rose from our seats to look at the picture being displayed on the screen. It showed a parking lot full of cars and a single storey building nestled up against a small hillock. People in suits could be seen walking through the carpark towards the building. After a few minutes, the picture disappeared, the screen showing the message ‘Satellite out of range’.
“At least we know that there is something there.” Alpha Leon stated. “But that building doesn’t look big enough to house all the people from those cars.”
“They must have either dug into the hillside or below the ground.” My father agreed.
“Beth could be anywhere inside there.” I stated, dejectedly sitting back down in my chair. “We can’t exactly sneak in the front door!”
“Don’t loose hope, Alpha Heir.” Wanda spoke, her voice only slightly louder than a whisper. “She will need her mates to survive what is to come.”
“What is to come?” my mum asked, at the same time Sarah asked, “Mates?”
“Being a white wolf, Beth will have lots of trials to face. She is already facing the first one and she will need both her mates to help her,” Wanda stated.
“Both of her mates?” Lizzy asked, confused. “I thought you could only have one mate.”
“So did I.” I commented, looking at Wanda for clarification. That’s when I noticed that her eyes were glazed over. “Wanda, are you okay?”
My mum immediately got up out of her seat and went to Wanda, waving her hand in front of her face. “She’s in some sort of trance.”
Suddenly, Wanda started blinking rapidly and shaking her head, taking deep breathes. Her chin dropped to her chest for a few moments. When she raised her head once more, her eyes were clear. “Apologies, I had a vision.” She explained.
She looked directly at me as she spoke once again, “Beth is special. White wolves are special and extremely rare, like your silver wolf. Another rare wolf is the jet-black wolf. In my vision, I saw a white wolf flanked by a silver wolf and a jet-black wolf. The white wolf had two marks, whereas the other wolves only had one each.” She said, pointing to her neck, just where a mate’s mark would be.
“They stood together against an unseen foe, before the white wolf fell to the ground in pain. Only the silver and jet-black wolves working together can save her.” She continued. “I’m sorry, but that is all I was allowed to see.”
The thought of Beth being mates with someone else had my heart filling with jealousy and rage. I jumped to my feet, my fists slamming into the table in front of me. “Beth is mine!” I cried, before storming out of the room.
My mind was raging, and I didn’t know where I was going, but I found myself in Beth’s room standing in front of the mirror with the picture of us propped up against it.
Growling in frustration, I looked up and shouted. “She is mine! I am her mate! No-one else, me.” I slammed my hand against my chest to make my point, although I knew no-one was listening to my rant.
“You may want to think that, but it may not be true.” I heard Sarah’s gentle words behind me.
Spinning around, I saw her standing in the doorway. “If you truly love her, you must accept her no matter what. You cannot force her to be with only you, if there is another out there that she is fated to be with. You will have to be there for her, help her, save her, but not fight against what she wants or needs.” She told me.
Dropping to my knees, my head fell into my hands as I sobbed. I felt an arm wrap around me, bringing my head into a soft chest. “Everything will be okay, Connor. Just have faith.” Sarah murmured into my ear.
“She was mine for only a short time and then I lost her. Now I know, she will never be mine. I don’t know if I will be able to share her love, or if I even want to.” I sobbed out.
“Trust in Beth. Love Beth. Let her guide you.” Sarah told me as she rocked our bodies to and fro. “I know she loves you.”
My sobs subsided and the tears ceased to fall as we sat there on the floor of Beth’s room. Sarah’s hold on me loosened and I left her embrace. “I’m sorry Sarah. I just miss her so much.”
“You have nothing to apologise for. I miss her too.” She smiled at me. “We will get her back; I know we will.”
“Thank you.” I told her, wiping my face with my hands.
“Will you be okay if I go back downstairs?” she asked.
Nodding, I rose to my feet and walked over to Beth’s bed. “I will be fine. I will come down in a bit, I just need a few minutes.”
Sarah’s hand trails over my shoulders in a last effort to comfort me before she leaves me alone in Beth’s room once more, closing the door behind her.
Sitting on the bed, I stroke Beth’s pillow, inhaling her scent that permeates the fabric. After a moment, I lay down, resting my head on her pillow. Closing my eyes, I breathed in her scent.
“Connor!” I heard my father’s voice call and I jerked awake. “Connor! We are leaving in ten minutes.”
“Coming!” I called back, rising from Beth’s bed. With one last look around her room, I leave it and head to my own room to wash the sleep out of my eyes and get changed.
When I made it downstairs eight minutes later, everyone was standing there waiting for me.
“Are you ready to rescue my daughter?” Alpha Leon asks.
“More than ready.” I stated, following him out of the house and into the cars waiting outside.
“We will explain the plan on the way.” My father tells me, getting into the driver’s seat of the car I am getting into.
