It was nearing the end of the day. It was about halfway through my last class when I heard my name being called on the schools 'PA system'. "Oh, Bexley's being summoned." I heard Nimah whisper from her desk.
"You may be excused," said Mr. Harrison the science teacher. I just nodded and headed down to the principal's office.
"Principal Abastrab?" I said knocking on the door.
"Come in Mrs. Coles." He said sternly. When I entered I had three pairs of eyes on me Principal Abastrab's, Mrs. Cora's and the short chubby kid who's name I still don't know.
"Okay... What's going on?" I asked.
"Please sit." said principal Abastrab. After I take a seat beside Mrs. Cora she pats my back.
"Before we start, I wanted to let you know I'm not mad."
"just disappointed... Right?" I laughed.
Principal Abastrab nodded and he started. "Mrs. Cora tells me you don't want to have a therapist"
"I considered her my 'therapist'," I added. "I don't like meeting new people and..."
"Your anger has been getting out of control." He interrupted. "Jaylon here tells me you keep calling him a little kid and tell him to go see his 'mommy'."
I could help but chuckle. Really this is what it's about. this is the big deal? "That's not exactly what I said, but basically, yeah," I added. "But he cries like a baby, What did he expect?"
"For you to treat me like a human being," Jaylon said.
"Babies are human too!" I chuckled.
"Stop your bickering!" Mrs. Cora muttered as principle Abastrab sighed.
"I'm going to have to talk to your parents about getting you a therapist."
"My parents are dead!" I screamed. "In order to talk to them, you'd have to join them!"
"Mrs. Coles, sit down!" In my anger, I didn't realize I stood up and leaned in close to scream in principal Abastrabs face. "Detention, two hours after school."
"Whatever!" I replied as I slumped back into my chair.
About an hour later I had to listen to principal Abastrab have a chat with my aunt on the phone. I could hear the voice of my 'master' on the other end and I knew, I was going to get it good when I got 'home'.
When my two hours were almost up it started raining so principal Abastrab called my aunt again "Hello... Hey, it started raining so I was wondering if you were coming to pick Bexlynne up... But she could catch a cold... I don't think you should have a punishment that could affect her health... Well... you're right you are her guardian... Ok... Bye." He took a short quick sigh and said. "Your gonna have to walk."
"Not surprised." I replied as I grabbed my bag and handed him the sheet of paper he made my right down 'how what I did was wrong'.
"Good-bye Mrs. Coles" I ignored him and left the school.
I took a long way home so I could think for a while before getting bitched at by my aunt. "I love the rain," I told myself as if I forgot. "It's been a while since it last rained"
I heard people talking in the ally in front of me. "Hey did you get them?" Wait, that sounded like Keith. I went up to the edge and listen to their conversation. I can't believe I've stooped so low to eavesdrop on people I don't even really know.
"Yup here they are, color contacts." This guy must have got them from the drug mart couple stores behind me.
"Do we have to wear then?" Another voice joined the conversation. He sounded a little like a little boy. "I hate how our eyes glow blue."
"It's how the humans who are killing us off find us so now we need to wear them or die," Keith said.
"Being a vampire is cool but this is just a buzzkill man!" The childish man continued. A VAMPIRE?! What on earth are they talking about?
"Be quiet! " Keith hushed. "A human might hear you!"
I heard some sniffing and the guy who got the contacts says "I think one already has."
Not even half a second later, I am in front of the three guys. How did I get here?
"s**t!" Kid-man said.
"Bexlynne!?" Keith said.
"You know her?" Contact man asked.
"She's kinda cute!" Kidman smiled and started walking towards me.
"She's from the school I was investigating" Keith grabbed the shoulder of Kidman and looked ashamed while he stared at the ground.
All of a sudden I felt a sharp pain in my stomach and the bottom half of my body felt warm. I looked down and saw a knife in my abdomen.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Keith screamed. He stared at me as Mr. Contacts threw me on the ground. Keith ran up to me with super speed. He was just a blur and then he was there.
"You know the rules, every human who finds out about us must die. One way... or another" I looked up at the man child and he seemed just as saddened as Keith, if not, more. Do you know what the weirdest part is? I'm not even scared.
"You know what you have to do if you want to try to save her"
Keith looked at the guy who seems to be in charge and he looked back at me. Keith grabbed my arm and then bit me.
I'd never forgotten the way his face looked. It was less then expressionless, he was soulless. He closed his eyes in determination, as one single tear dripped slowly from them, glistening in the moonlight. Imitating the raindrops, it fell off of his face into my pool of blood. It wasn't the first time I saw a man cry, but it was still-.
"... Pathetic." That was my last thought, then I lost consciousness.
