I watched as Diyaa flittered around our apartment. We have lived here for close to two years now. Technically we have lived in this apartment for almost six years, but the landlord thought he was renting it to a father and his daughter. That same father and daughter moved out close to two years ago then a month later we moved in, well that is what he thought. He had no idea he was renting it to us the whole time. At first, I had made myself appear to be a man in his forties so he would rent us the apartment. I was glad that I was able to find a decently priced apartment in a decent area of the Bronx. After our nanny Felynia had smuggled us out of the vampire kingdom she had taken us to Michigan where her family was originally from. We had lived there for two years when she had decided to go visit friends in Boston. What I didn’t know was there was a pack in Michigan. Someone in that pack recognized us and tried to kidnap us. We were able to escape. I am not sure which pack it was. We had run from them when we had decided to head to Boston because Felynia had not returned when she told she would. We found her dead in an apartment in Boston. We quickly took everything that was worth taking and fled to Pennsylvania. We weren’t there long before coming here to New York. I can’t explain it, but it was something was pulling me to come here. “How is the business going?” Diyaa chirped. “It is going well. Word must have spread because my email has been flooded with companies from all over the world wanting me to access their security to see how secure it is. I have also been building more but I am limited as to what and how much I can build here in the apartment.” I answered. “You should rent or buy your own shop, so you have a place to build all your high-tech gadgets. You know eventually you are going to have to think about finding others that can help you. I know you have trust issues, as do I, but you can’t do all this by yourself.” Diyaa pointed out. I knew she was right. I graduated high school when I was 12. The classes that I took my last two years in high school counted as college courses as well. When I started college at 16, I already had an Associate’s degree. By the time I graduated I had Master’s degrees in anything that pertained to computer science. I also graduated with an MBA. I was told that with all my other studies that I was only a few courses away from a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering so that is what I did. I had written my first code when I was eight. I came across one of the IT guys that worked for dad when I was six and began to read it. I realized quickly that I was tech savvy and that I liked it, so I focused on that. I started my own company after I had graduated college. One of my professors knew someone who could help me. I met with his friend, my professor was present at the meeting as well, we discussed what I wanted to do. He was impressed that someone so young was as mature as I was. If he only knew what I had been through he would understand. He helped me legally start the business and when I turned 18, he had “sold me the business”, which really, he just handed my own business over to me. My business grew fast and even though it has only been here for close to four years it is already a multi-million-dollar business. One would ask why we live in this apartment if I can clearly afford a house and the reason is because I don’t want to draw attention to us. We have gone under the radar of anyone who might be looking for us, and I want to keep it that way. I knew eventually we would have to move. Our apartment was not small, but we definitely needed more space. “I have been looking into a building to either rent or buy but so far, I can’t find one I like in an area I would want.” I admitted. “How is school going?” I asked. “It is going great. I have made so many friends. Please don't be worried but I think a few of them are from the local pack, but they have no idea I am supernatural. They treat me as if I am human. I overheard them talking about something going on in the pack and with their alpha a few days ago.” Diyaa told me. “f**k, Diyaa please be careful. The only pack in New York is the Nightmare pack, and we both know their reputation and what they will do if they find either of us.” I pointed out. “I know and I am being careful. None of them have been untruthful with me and we both know I would know if they had.” Diyaa replied. That was the truth. Diyaa had not come into her full powers yet and she wouldn’t until she turned 18 on January 16th. She could so some basic stuff and she seemed drawn to both fire and earth which made me believe that her powers were going to center around them. She could kind of control the shadows but not like me and they didn’t talk to her like they talked to me. The one power that she seemed to be born with was the ability to tell when people were lying and knowing when we would be safe where we were. The two of us talked about her school as we ate dinner that night. I was currently taking a few classes online. This time I was majoring in linguistics. I figured it would help me to be able to speak a few different languages. I sat on my bed later that night looking at the large wolf stuffy that I have. Mom and dad had gotten it for me at a carnival we had gone to. I had seen it, and I knew I wanted it. It was a month or so after Diyaa had turned two. I can’t explain why but it was like I had seen this wolf, only in real life, before. The wolf stuffy was solid black but it had bright lime green eyes. I hugged it close to me as I fell asleep that night. “You haven’t fought in a while. I am surprised Uncle Andy hasn’t set a fight up for you lately.” Diyaa commented. “Funny you should mention that. He called me today to tell me that he had someone that wanted a good fight and told them about me. He told them that I was a woman and that made this guy want to challenge me even more. The fight is Saturday night.” I told her. “That guy has no idea what is about to happen to him. I know you will win because you haven’t lost a fight yet.” Diyaa chirped. “I know, but this guy is from Florida and from what I was able to find out he is the best fighter in that state. He has not lost a fight either. I know for a fact that Andy is going to promote the hell out of this fight. I am sure the place will be packed. I have no doubt him and I both will make an obscene amount of money that night.” I pointed out. “You’ll win I have no doubt. I was wondering if you had given anymore thought about us moving?” she asked. “I have but with this being your last year I would like you to finish school before we move. I am hoping that if we do move that it would be our last time having to move. That raises the question would you want to move into a house here in New York or out of the country?” I told her. “I want to stay here. I know you want to stay here as well. I would like to travel once I graduate but I am not sure I would want to live in another country.” She answered. “Okay that settles it. We can look for a house here in New York, but I want to wait until after the winter. I think the market will be better then. I was thinking something more up state maybe more in the forest.” I told her. “I agree. I have been looking at colleges here, but I am still not sure what I want to do.” she sighed. I told her she still had plenty of time to decide what she wanted to major in. Hell, I told her that some of the kids I had gone to college with were well into their third year before they declared their majors. I think that put her mind at ease. We cleaned up before heading to our rooms to bed. The rest of the week flew by and before I knew it Diyaa any myself were weaving our way through the back allies we knew well by now as we headed for Andy’s gym. The gym was massive and took up the whole block. The fighting area was under the gym, more towards the back half of the gym. You had to be invited to one of these fights. It was kind of members only, but you could buy your way in if you had enough money. We entered the way we usually did; I teleported us into the place. We made our way towards Andy’s office. We ran into them halfway down the hall. I saw the frown on Andy’s face. He didn’t like it when I brought Diyaa, but he also knew I was not about to leave her home alone. “You are to stay in my office until the fight is over and Xayvry has collected her winnings. I don’t want you on the main floor.” Andy hissed. “Of course, Uncle Andy.” Diyaa drawled. “Cutter, Daimos take her to my office and you two are to stay with her until the fight is over. You had better behave yourself.” Andy told her. I laughed as Diyaa smiled at Andy as the three of them walked towards his office. Andy and I walked down to the back of the ring where the locker rooms were. I walked into my usual locker room to find everything I needed there. No one else but me used this locker room. There were two other locker rooms that other fighters used but Andy had made this one mine, and it was kept locked with his demon powers unless I was using it. I was waiting for my name to be announced. I began walking out and towards the ring when I was hit hard in the face with that scent. I was four when I first smelled it, the unmistakable scent of leather and black licorice. It also had a slight hint of almond to it. I had no idea what it meant then, when I first smelled that scent, but now I knew it meant that my mate was here. A loud deep growl was heard as I climbed into the ring. I knew he was here, but I couldn’t tell exactly where it was coming from, and you could barely see past the first row of tables. The fight started so I focused on that. “Why are you in such a hurry to leave?” Diyaa asked. “We just need to go.” I told her. I pulled her along behind me as Andy yelled at us. I also heard growling as I shoved open the door to the alley. I pulled us down the alley and behind a large block of concrete as the door slammed open. The growl that reverberated down the alley shook the solid concrete block we were behind. I peeked out to lock eyes with the most intense pair of bright lime green eyes I had ever seen. I hurried and teleported us back to our apartment before he could make it to the concrete block. I knew Diyaa had questions but right now I needed to get away from him. Her questions would be answered when I knew we were safely away from him. s**t he was the last person I needed to run into. This was a cluster f**k!
