The Beginning
Mermaids weren't always rare creatures. They used to walk among us, not afraid to show their true selves. Humans accepted them and trusted them. They were free to live on land or in water, and come and go as they pleased. Queen Welany and King Tewana were leaders of the Merhalle tribe. They trusted the humans among them, and never thought they would be betrayed. Queen Welany was expecting her first child, a daughter. She chose to birth her in the water, so she would have the freedom to chose which life to live, and not have to wait until she matured to sprout her tail. Princess Temala was born. Everyone welcomed her with open arms. She was beautiful. She has blonde hair, and emerald green eyes, like her father. She sprouted a golden tail, just like her mother. The village took part in raising Temala. She grew up free.
At the age of 16, her mother grew ill. She watched as her mother faded in the sea, and disappeared forever. In her grief, Temala met the love of her life, Akama. He was tall, and slender. He had brown hair, and golden eyes. They married young, and decided to bear a child. The humans celebrated the newly weds. They threw them a huge feast. Mer-kind was not accustomed to eating like this. All the sea had to offer was small fish, shrimp, and other small creatures, but the humans taught them to farm and build shelters and live off the lands. The humans were always so welcoming of the mer-kind. For centuries this is how it had been on Halle Island.
One night, Temala felt a sharp pain. The baby was coming. Just as Akama went to fetch the villages healer, a strange ship came into view. They had never seen a ship this size before. He signaled the village to awaken and prepare themselves, as they did not know what to expect. The village healer Aleesa stayed with Temala as she prepared for birth. Not knowing what was happening out side of her home. Akama and King Tewana prepared the soldiers just in case they had to defend themselves. They had never come in contact with any other humans outside of Halle island.
The ship came to rest on the white sand of Halle Island. Silence filled the air as mer-kind waited on the ship's crew to unboard the ship. An hour had passed and nobody moved, or said a word. FInally, Akama took the first step out of hiding, and headed toward the ship. He climbed the ladder dangling from the side, and was met with a sword. He was shocked, as he felt his blood seeping out of his body, covering his stomach. He let out a weak cry, before he slowly fell to the ground beneath him. Battle cries rang out as bandits rushed Halle Island. King Tewana signaled for every mer-kind to retreat to the water.
