Aurora's POV
It's been three days since the divorce and the magical night with Jonathan. It took everything in me to escape early that morning. I could barely walk but I also wasn't ready to have a go at it with anyone else. s*x has always been emotional for me. I find it very hard to differentiate it from my emotions. I had broken several rules with Jonathan and I wasn't ready to continue breaking them.
I left while it was early. He was beautiful in his sleep. His flawless skin reminded me of Kai. Kai was also very brutal in bed. Kai would always leave my legs shaking and this strange Jonathan managed to do the same.
My thoughts had drifted off to the several ways Kai had dealt with me in bed. His tongue game, his warm breath, everything there was to think about. If only I could feel all those things again. If only he'd be mine.
"Aurora, have you even heard a word I've said?" My mom, Grace Martel, asked. I cleared my throat and readjusted my sitting posture. She had called me late last night. My sister, Ruby Martel, collapsed again. We were seated in her hospital room, waiting for her to wake up.
"Sorry mom. I've got a lot on my mind." I said, scratching the back of my neck.
"A lot like what?" She asked angrily. "Give me one good reason why you divorced the man that pays all our bills?"
"Mom, what?" I asked. "I pay all our bills and I can't go into details."
"Oh, I'm actually very interested in the events of this particular one." She snapped. "Imagine my surprise when I find out that you are no longer affiliated with the one man that's bettered our lives."
"Oh mom, I'm not ready to get into all these with you tonight." I snapped back at her. "Well before I met Kai, we were doing fine and I was providing pretty alright."
"So, you're saying your measly law career can provide what that man has provided?" She asked sassily. "Tell me Aurora, when was the last time you practiced?"
"Mom, leave me alone or I'll say things that we'll both regret." I snapped.
"I just would never understand you." She shouted. "Who else would give me twenty grand every month or even every week I call?"
"How the f**k did you even get to speak with my ex-husband?" I asked, feeling a little betrayed and angry. My mom went silent. I hissed angrily at her.
"You keep shouting at me like any of the things going on is my fault." I said. "Don't piss me off mom. Please don't."
"I don't care how you do it, just get back with him!" She yelled.
"Since you are so intent on getting his money, you should probably wear one of your ridiculously skimpy dresses, seduce him and get married to him." I said breathlessly.
"Don't you dare speak to me in that manner!" She snapped.
"No mom, don't you speak to me in that manner!" I snapped right back. "Ever since dad died, you've been a shadow of yourself. You've gone totally of the hook and I keep providing, hoping that you'd get back to your senses but you never do!"
We both fell silent. I did not have any energy to argue. Life wasn't going as well as I had wanted. The money I got from the split would do nothing now. I'd spend everything on Ruby's health and go back to being broke.
My mother was right about one thing; my law career was in shambles. I'd be lucky to get any jobs.
"Since you found out about the split, it would have been easier if you had asked about how I feel, rather than get all furious about it." I said, hoping to get an apology out of her.
"Whatever Aurora." She said. "Do Whatever you wish."
I shrugged angrily. I should have expected her behaviour.
"Just stop shouting, you might wake Ruby." I said, keeping silent. I left the room to get coffee. I also got a snack for my mom on my way back. She was everything I didn't want to be, but I could not push her away. Family is everything.
On getting back to the hospital, Ruby was awake already.
"Hey baby." I said, walking in with everything I had bought. I handed the hamburger to my mom, before snuggling myself beside Ruby.
Ruby has battled with Hemophilia for a huge percentage of her life. She's undergone several treatments that have drowned my finances. This should be her last treatment according to the doctor and I seriously hope that it is. The doctor's confidence was everything.
"Hey, Aurora." Ruby said weakly. "I missed you."
"I missed you too love." I said, kissing her head. I drew her close to myself. She was only eight years younger. I could not wait for her to be fine.
I called for the doctor and he did some checks on her again. As expected, half of the money was going to her health. I felt grateful to be able to provide.
"I'm confident that this is the last treatment , though she'd have to come in for check ups once in a while." The doctor said.
Seconds later, the doctor was out of the room and I was left with Ruby. My mom had also gone out to do whatever.
I drank my coffee, while I saw a movie with Ruby. My phone rang just when the movie was about ending. It was a strange number, more like those from prison centres. I picked up the call and accepted the charges. Who knows what's about to happen?
"Hello, Aurora speaking." I said immediately I picked up the phone.
"Aurora, it's Kai." Kai said on the other end of the phone. My heart might have skipped a few beats. Several from hearing Kai's voice and the others for the unknown reason he was calling.
"Why are you calling me from a cell? What's going on?" I asked, panicking a little.
"Aurora, I need to see you." Kai said. "I've been arrested for murder."
"What?" I exclaimed. Kai is no innocent person, but he never kills the innocent and he's always very careful with whoever he kills that it can never be traced back to him. I'm not proud to say, but I taught him some of these things.
"It's confusing to me also." Kai said. "Please come. Let's talk."
"I'm on my way, Kai. Hang in there." I muttered. I hurriedly packed my bag.
"Ruby, I'm sorry, I have to leave. Kai needs me." I said, getting more fearful by the second.
"It's alright. Be careful." Ruby said. I pressed a kiss into her forehead before leaving. I bumped into my mom on the way out.
"Where are you headed to?" She asked.
"I'll be back mom." I shouted, running already.
I have to go save the man I love.
