Chapter eight
Alpha Kael POV.
“That’s impossible!!!” I said staring at Kaila Jacobs, I believe I heard when she mentioned her name to Dr. Thompson.
“You are asking me to stay a few more days for her.” I spat staring daggers at Dr. Thompson.
“My apologies, Al…” he paused, the word hooked on his throat. I believe he remembered our discussion. “Sir, but she can't be allowed out into the woods, I recommend a bed rest of at most 3 days, sir” he said bowing slightly.
I groan inwardly, after I had just made plans to go back to the park and try to involve myself in the dealing of the park as I should as the Alpha of the park.
I stare at her intently, trying to get a reason why I should help her. Luna Natalie died with my humanity, I am still in shock that I helped her yesterday. Why exactly am I involved with her. I still couldn't find a reason as to why I gave up my bed and sat watching her as she lay unconscious.
"Sir, she might probably be met with a great danger if we let her left without full recovery," Dr. Thompson said.
Hmm, Dr. Thompson is best doctor in park. If he advised we watch her for a few days then why not.
I signed inwardly, as an Alpha, I'm not allowed to show any facial expressions no matter what. Luna Natalie death was the first in my life I cried and still the only reason that brings tears out of my eyes.
"There isn't any supplies here, the only thing available here is just water," I said, my voice dripping with authority.
"I would need you to get some supplies from the park without the knowledge of anyone,"
"I could use the flytrek since they are specially designed for delivery," He suggested.
Good idea, but no machine operates without sending it's signal to headquarters. It would be suspicious for a flytrex to leave the park. Ramon will definitely investigate it and it will lead to us. The last time I want is for Kaila to be revealed I could imagine the headline already. 'Alpha stroll away to the woods for days with unidentified girl.' or 'Breaking news; Alpha neglect park, spend the night with a stranger.' Hell no, I am not ready to appear in the Park's paper.
"Using Flytrek would attract attention. Do it discreetly. I don't want unnecessary attention drawn to her. So, bring in the supplies yourself," I ordered
Dr. Thompson bows, understanding etched on his face. "Alright sir. I'll ensure to delivered the supplies myself."
I nodded, signifying end of discussion and turned back to my table.
"Al...Sir," Dr. Thompson called. "I brought some snacks from the store on my way here, I guess it can suffice till tomorrow."
I gave a little nod without sparing him a glance. my expression unreadable.
Dr. Thompson lingered for a moment before turning to leave. "I'll take my leave, sir."
I heard him whisper to Kaila. After some minutes, the door creaked open, I listened to soft click of the door, indicating we are alone.
We stayed in silence, I tried to focus on thoughts of the park but her image kept flashing through, messing with my head. I decided to face her.
I turned towards her. I noticed the beautiful yellow dress she was putting on, perfectly complementing her blond hair. She looks beautiful like Natalie. She seems to be in deep thoughts as she fiddle with her hair. Her lip pressed to a thin line.
"Kaila Jacobs," She raise her head in great speed to face me.
"You know my name." She said.
"You mentioned it to Dr. Thompson and I heard," I said impatiently.
She opened her mouth to say something but noticing my impatience, she paused and chose to stare at me uncertain.
Wise choice, I am not in the best mood for questions.
"You must be aware of your current situation and Dr. Thompson advise,"
"Yes..." Her voice trailed, "I don't know you name," She addedd after an afterthought.
I decided to ignore that, "Rule number 1, I hate noise, I love my peace and solace. Which is the major essence of building this place.”
"I'm not much of a talker," she chuckled softly like she thought of something or someone. I saw the longing locked up in her eyes. She probably missed home.
"2, don't not intrude in my personal space, avoid anywhere you see me," I ordered.
"And lastly, you shall on no account step your feet outside this cabin until the day you are ready to leave,"
"Am I imprisoned?" She asked still fiddling with her hair.
"As long as you stay here, you must abide to these rules," I stated ignoring her question.
"Your rules involved just you, am not going to be here forever, just; for a days and I promise to avoid you like a plague," She said staring at me squarely.
"This is my place, and you, young lady would do as instructed," I groaned angry at her bold stare.
Kaila nodded demure, her eyes now moist, locked on mine.
"Good," I said, my gaze holding hers. "You'll stay here for three days, as Dr. Thompson advised. I will also not bother you."
Kaila's lips parted, but she hesitated, unsure if she should speak.
"What is it?" I asked, my impatience resurfacing.
"Thank you," she said softly. "For helping me."
I stare at her unsure of what to say or think. No one has ever thanked me with the sincerity I see in her eyes.
I nodded in response.
"Can I ask your name?" Her voice quite and soft, like melodies to the ear.
"No, you can’t,” I said, my voice lower than I wanted it to sound.
"Are we clear on the rules?" I asked.
"Yes, avoiding anything that looks like you," She chuckled.
"I believe Dr. Thompson told about the snacks he brought, you are free to take whatever you want and eat." I said.
She nodded.
"What happened to you; you said you are someone who has been alone and has been hurt."
The death of Natalie came rushing back like a broken record. My heart seems to break into tiny pieces.
The air thickened between us.
Suddenly, a faint rustling echoed outside.
My head snapped towards the sound.
"What was that?" Kaila asked.
I raised a finger, signaling silence.
The rustling grew louder.
My instincts screamed warning.
"Stay here," I growled.
Without explanation, I strode towards the door.
As I reached for the handle, a low growl reverberated outside.
