A Baffling Night

Gevia's P.O.V It was another irritating day, and it was going to be more irritating later in the evening. I will have to see Alex's face again. That irritating picturesque face. It always makes my blood boil. Her calmness bothers me whenever something happens. How could she be so calm and so collected at the same time? How can she also be so attractive? It was confusing. I wasn't always sure of what to react whenever she appeared in front of me. It's quite hilarious, really. I don't exactly hate her, even though we were always compared. "G-good morning, Gevia." Joshua greeted me awkwardly. I smiled and greeted him warmly. I may not be my best at school, but I'm fine with it. I don't really care about what everyone thinks of me, unlike that Miss Perfect over there. Smiling and talking to other girls. She was handsome and popular. I can give her that. "Good morning, Joshua. Don't be too shy. We'll be partners for the entire semester." Joshue scratched the back of his neck, avoiding eye contact. He was adorable. "I just- I don't know. I'm just shy in general." I giggled and nodded my head. "Please do change that over time. You need to be aggressive." he giggled, showing off his cat whiskers on his cheeks when he smiled. I didn't notice it yesterday. How could I not have noticed something so adorable? Goosebumps. There it was again. My neck suddenly felt cold. I could feel someone's eyes on me again. It has been happening quite a lot lately, but whenever I try and search for someone that's looking at me, I find a lot. I know I'm popular, but that stare was different from the usual ones that I get. It had intentions that I couldn't seem to break down. When I searched for it, I wasn't able to find it. The stare comes as soon as it can, and disappears just as fast. It was intriguing, to say the least. "I guess I will." I shook off my feeling of being stared at and focused on Joshua. "Good! Now, let's go and take our seats. We need to f*****g destroy Alex." he nodded his head without many words. We proceeded to our seats, eagerly taking them while the others started flooding into the classroom. The soft chatter turned to loud laughter, which irritated the hell out of me. I could feel my eyebrows meeting at the center. "You guys have always been headbutting since the start, haven't you?" Joshua asked, a little hesitant. His shaky voice and unsure tone made it obvious. He was avoiding eye contact but he couldn't help but take a peek at me, probably curious as to what my expression would be. "Of course. We've been at it since the day we were born. I'd like to think that we were born just to piss each other off." Joshua giggled. "Don't you find Alex attractive though?" I rolled my eyes, feeling disgusted. "I am straight, thank you very much." Joshua's lips curled upward. "I didn't say anything. I just said attractive." he was toying with me with his words and his insinuation. My left eyebrow raised on its own, in disbelief that someone was toying with me other than Alex. It was a new scene to me, but I didn't mind. I know Joshua has pure intentions. He was being funny, so open that I couldn't help but be a little proud. "You're right. Silly of me to get so defensive. Yes, Alex is attractive, but I wouldn't date her. Other than I'm straight, she gets on my nerves. Just the sight of her face makes me feel annoyed." "Alex is dreamy for me." I shook my head, completely disagreeing with his statement. Speaking of the devil, Alex came in with a bunch of girls hanging around her. She looked so calm, almost as if she was avoiding those girls while those girls stayed, nonetheless. It wasn't new. Alex was popular, like me. The only difference was that she was a kind but cold person, while I was,- well, always hot-headed and annoyed and always shouting. "Pfft, as if," I scoffed before rolling my eyes as I looked away. The day continued quite smoothly, which is to my liking. Thankfully, Alex wasn't bothering me the entire day. But I guess she'll bother me the entire night since we're going to be together. Just thinking about it is giving me a headache already. I sighed loudly. "Is there something wrong?" Joshua asked. He sat down beside me as we oversaw football practice. We were sitting on the bench near the field. I didn't want to go home yet. I don't want to be anywhere near a clock at the moment. It's going to remind me of what's going to happen tonight. "I'm going to have dinner with Alex and Alejandro." "... Wait, what?" I sighed again. "I know it's weird. We're basically out every day, chasing each other's necks with a knife and here I am, telling you that we're going to eat dinner with them." he nodded his head. "How..? What-" he couldn't form any intellectual words. "I don't know what exactly happened, but this happens monthly. Dad says that we need to do this otherwise disastrous things might happen." "So, you're going to eat dinner? With Alex and her father? Tonight?" "Yes," I breathed out. He leaped and jumped forward, then ran back towards me. His eyes screamed excitement. He looked like he had just gotten out of a cage. I was confused. Why was he excited? What is he excited about? I wanted to ask if his brain was okay, but I didn't want to ruin his moment of happiness. Though I am curious. "What are you doing?" "ISN'T THAT KIND OF ROMANTIC? Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer! Like, like, I don't know, it just is! Romance in the air!" he almost screamed. Those who were near us turned their heads to look at us, but I glared at them so they instantly looked away. "Romantic? Which part? I'm not following." I shook my head. "FORBIDDEN KIND OF LOVE! Isn't that it? Enemies to lovers? f**k meee," he squeaked out, letting out a tiny voice that rang in my ears. He sat down, breathing heavily while looking at the sky. "You're hallucinating." I looked at my nails. I noticed a small dent in my nail polish and it immediately irritated me. What the f**k? How did that get smudged? I clicked my tongue. Trying to ignore that smudge took everything in me to throw a fit. I kept looking around, not wanting to get bothered by anything else. "I know, but you guys look so great together, you know? I've been silently dreaming of you guys getting together." "Our fathers wouldn't even allow it, even if that's the case." "Love is love. It's hard to stay away when you know that you both have the same feelings," he was saying, as if it was a regret on his part. He talked of an experience that he wasn't ready to share with me yet. I looked at him and his sultry expression. What a weird guy. "I could never see myself falling in love with someone with all this ruckus." "Well, you're going to fall in love tonight and you better tell me the whole detail," he shrieked and stood up. "I better go! Enjoy your dinner date with the most dangerous people on earth!" he added before walking away. I walked to my car and drove home. I didn't see Alex after class, which meant that she was already at home or going home. I slapped myself, scolding my brain for even thinking about that b***h. I grew up conscious of one person and one person only. My Dad always brings her up, no matter where we go or what we do. It was frustrating at first, but as time passed by, it made me dislike Alex and she was my motivation in doing everything perfectly just so I could beat her. But there was no such thing as beating her. We were always on par, not ending the tie. We were both attractive people, both rich, came from a mafia family, and both academically smart. We were competitive in everything, just as I like it. There was no inbetween. As soon as I got home, I changed my clothes into something formal and had my makeup done by my makeup artist. I had my clothes picked by my designer. Once I was done, I had to take a look at myself in the mirror. The makeup artist and my designer were both shaking, fearing that I might not like what they did to me. As they should. "Good." with just that one word, they sighed in relief. A knock came. The maid opened it as soon as I gave her the signal. It was Daddy. "Daddy," I smiled. He walked in and gave me a hug, careful not to ruin my dress. He gave me a peck on the forehead before smiling at me. "You look so beautiful, darling." he said, his smile reaching his ears. "I know, thank you." "Shall we go?" I nodded. We took his gold limousine. We drove off to another five-star restaurant. Cars were piled up, and people were wearing extravagant clothing. Full of glamour, and full of facade. "We're here, Sire." We exited the limousine and went directly inside. Dad talked to the receptionist and we were led to the table where Alejandro and Alex were. They both looked so handsome, so intimidating. Alex saw me and a smirk instantly appeared on her lips. Both Alejandro and Alex stood up and greeted us warmly, as if we weren't trying to outdo each other. When Alex gave me a kiss on the cheek, she pulled my waist and whispered in my ear. "Wow, you look so beautiful." her cool voice sent chills down my spine, giving me goosebumps. This girl knows she has appeal, and I hate it. She knows how to use it. Her tux looked so fit, so clean on her. Her sleek hair was kept in place, not one strand astray. Her eyes were piercing my soul as they always do whenever there was a dinner date. I could only smile before pushing her away. "Thank you," Our fathers were busy, talking already, forgetting about their children. Our food came and Daddy and Alejandro were still talking. Alex was staring at me even after our food arrived. It was so hard to eat when she was staring at me so intently. "Can you not stare?" I asked politely. I didn't want to be polite but Daddy was here and Alejandro was here. I didn't want to cause trouble for Daddy. "A beautiful lady deserved to be stared at." she stated. Was she not hearing herself? She was uttering such embarrassing words. "I don't need it." she scoffed and leaned to behind her. "I don't need your opinion. It's a free country. I can do whatever I want." I kissed my teeth. I inhaled and exhaled, not wanting to kill this motherfucker right here and now. "Do what you want." I ate like she wasn't there. Of course, I had to maintain my dignity since I was still carrying my Dad's name. I didn't want to humiliate him by having a daughter that eats like a pig in a fine dining restaurant. After I ate, I excused myself and went to the restroom. I looked at myself in the mirror and I could tell that I was irritated by how my eyebrows were curled. "Hello, miss." I jumped, startled. "What the actual f**k do you want from me?" I shouted at Alex. She was having fun. One end of her lips was curled into a smirk. She moved closer to me with that grin on her beautiful face. I had to take a step back. She took another step and I did the same until my back hit the wall. "f**k you. f*****g hell. Why are you here?" I asked. Alex slammed her hand on the right side of my face, looking straight into my eyes as she leaned in. "It's the comfort room. You mean I can't be here? Are you also trying to terminate my right to go to the restroom?" "Also, can you stop cussing? It's irritating." Alex softly suggested. "Or what? What are you going to do if I don't? Bitch." I hissed at her. She slowly placed her hand on the other side, locking me. I couldn't getaway. I couldn't look elsewhere. She was sucking me in. Her eyes captured mine effortlessly. Alex thought about it for a second and licked her lips. "Do it again and find out." Alex challenged me. I was enraged by Alex's taunt and leaned to Alex to accentuate my reply, "f**k. You." Alex leaned in for a hard, torrid kiss with no mercy. "WHAT THE f**k, SAMSON!" I pushed her away before exiting the comfort room.
